WASHINGTON — House Republicans on Thursday scuttled a bill that Democrats hoped would help lower gasoline prices by forcing the Energy Department to release 70 million barrels of oil — about a three-day supply — from the national stockpile. Democrats promised that the action would have produced immediate relief at the pump, as was the case with similar releases in 1991, 2000 and 2005. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve now holds about 700 million barrels. Despite winning a clear 268-157 majority, the measure still lost. Democratic leaders had brought the proposal up for debate under rules requiring a two-thirds vote to pass. Passing the bill by just a majority would have meant allowing Republicans to force a vote on new offshore drilling leases.

She's am Idiot plain and simple along with a few others who cant see the forest for the trees. We need to drill for oil to get us over the hump and mean while be earnest about finding other energy sources of which have already been invented but have been kept under the rug. Another thing sell some of the high mpg cars here instead of shipping them off to Europe like the new ford turbo diesel that gets over 65 mph. Or say go back to making the Chevy Sprint that got 45 city 55 highway.

Most automobile manufactors will not be making gasoline run models. Mercedes Benz will stop making gasoline powered models starting in 2010 and Toyota by 2018. Most cars will be electric and cost $30,000. and up.

Hey...how come Bush and company, who have had 7 plus years in power, haven't been pushing for drilling before. Surely they must have seen this oil crises coming. After all, Cheney had that secret energy policy meeting right.

Just remember...it wasn't the Liberal Democrats who got us into this waste of a war and spent trillions of dollars the US has had to borrow.

One thing for sure...when the country goes down...it will take down the Republicans who got us into this mess as well as the rest of us.

Hey Pelosi, if you're trying to save the planet, to to China and start there. Seen the air in Beijing lately? That place makes the L.A. basin look like an alpine meadow by comparison. Or maybe Mexico City? Or Bombay (now called mumbai). ANY of the countries asscoiated with the cities above are absolutel world-polluting monsters on the gravest scale. THEY, far more than the US, need to be brought under the "benign control" of the Uber-green Ms. Pelosi.

Think ANY of them would allow her to meddle in their affairs kiddies....?

The Dems want to hit the ground running by hoping/planning to kickoff another small economy bubble - with the Save the Planet "Green" movement.

Hasn't anyone noticed the little "green" shopping bags already (for sale of course) in most of the stores these days? And the organic and green products now being offered that were not there before?!?!

Not to mention lightbulbs, solar panels, wind mills, electric car manufactors gearing up for sales.....:whistle:
