Put a trailer down the backyard and let a retired mercenary live in it rent free that likes to garden. Better than a dog but like a dog that can dig a hole and bury what gets killed.

My daughter has several Nigerian dwarf goats.Roaming dogs and other predators make her nervous. The night pen is fairly close to the house,so she installed a baby monitor, works good. She can hear when they are disturbed and check it out.The monitor is pretty sensitive,it also picks up the chickens if they are disturbed.

Oh Mom, so sorry you're going through this! There are some great suggestions here, especially since you do have a spare trailer there. If you can't get a 'mercenary' maybe you can find a responsible college student or farm hand who would be willing to put in some 'security' hours in exchange for living in your trailer. Perhaps if you can find a spare car or two (friends, relatives, etc.), even a clunker that you can just keep there so it looks like there are more people about....maybe putting a light on at night in the trailer will help, even if no one is living in it.

Not sure of your fencing situation, but since you've got goats I'd guess you have way more than 5-strand. Adding more strands would make it more difficult to get through, woven fencing is even more difficult (although it can be climbed)...definitely consider hot wire....we don't much like it either, but you might be able to run it around the outside of the perimeter of your goat enclosure at night, so that it doesn't actually come in contact with their fencing.

If you don't already lock your gates, all the time, you might want to consider that...with lots of chain. It's a pain to be sure, but it should be helpful to make access harder.

That's a great idea, if close enough! Also, maybe some motion-activated solar flood lights.

I second chaining your driveway gate if you have one. My driveway gate is always padlocked unless we're just here letting the dogs out between shifts (10 minutes). Otherwise, it's locked shut. If/when TSHTF, I'll chain the outsides of the gates to the posts so no one can just pop the hinges. Right now, I worry about fire fighters/ambulance not being able to get in, though I guess they carry bolt cutters. I also don't want to look completely non-trusting of my neighbors.

one of my male castereated goats is gone today. I called the cops a couple of hours ago. it takes a wile for the to get here.
makes me more than upet or worried. I am really ticked off, been waiting on the ops now for a while. looked every where he is gone, some one sole him last night.........................
I would have shot the sob, who took my goat if I had caught him for sure.I don't play, sht over 2 others when they tried to take my goats.

who ever took him, ay they rot in hell, he was one of my babies.

Hmmm, are there any muzzies in your neighborhood? That's where I would start looking.
