mexican, jamaican, arab, had to be. I stopped a goat rustle by firing 5 quick rounds out of the AR over their truck. Nighttime so I couldn't get the nationality, but I'll bet it was one of the filth previously mentioned!

You sure it wasn't something like a bobcat, wolf or coyote that might have nabbed your goat? I don't know what it's like where you live but, down here in southwest georgia, coyotes can be a problem at times.

Our friends raise goat but have an 8 ft fence all around them plus they don't take their horns off when they are babies.
Hope they either find the goat or the thieves. Goat napping just ain't right even if it was one of your whethers......

I worry about this in a SHTF situation. My goats are just more furkids; I feel like I have to find a way to protect them too. Other people just see meat; I see how generations lay together, best friends who go everywhere together, friends who come up and rub their heads on you until you oblige them by scratching behind their ears. I hope he's found soon.

Whatever happened, step up the guard dogs or donkey. Report it to the sheriff. Wire up the electric fence so it's really hot and takes the sizzle out of anything that touches it. (Don't test it yourself, needless to say)
It or they will try it again. We've got a Great Pyrenees and nobody messes with him. He's always been with the sheep and we never lay a hand on him. He will not come get his food until everyone is out of sight. He sometimes gets threatening with us when we start to move or work the sheep. And he knows us. We haven't had as many night hunters around here since we got him. He has been vicious with our farm dog, a Siberian Husky mix, also a very big dog. If your neighbors haven't seen anything like predators, it's probably a human thief.

That scares me and pisses me off too. I have four goats and I'd be one raging mad ass woman if someone took one of mine. And DH wants all the pasture open to the road, I have to stop that some way.

MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
Hmmm. I had 198 Angoras a number of years ago and coyotes were REALLY bad until I put my 8 Great Pyrenees out with them. I got the goats a week before the dogs and lost 5 in that week. Also around here in the Ozarks, there are A LOT of red-blooded red necks that love BBQ goat. In some towns for their school Homecomings, they serve "Goat Burgers."

Don't blame one nationality or other, sorry, but everybody eats and sometimes they eat goat meat!

I AM sorry you lost one of your babies though......I LOVED my "bottle babies" like real kids.

In fact I had a set of twins I bottle fed, and at 7 months one of them died and the other one almost greived himself to death. I put him back on the bottle even though they are NOT supposed to drink milk that late. I had a hard time pulling him out of what appeared to be a severe depression. He totally regressed and acted just like he did when He was just a baby!

Hoping you find him safe and sound.......

It's coming into a Nepalese holiday I believe... they are scurrying around here looking for castrated (MUST BE) goats. Offering $5/lb live weight. Take that for whatever it's worth to you Mom. I raise goats, pigs, sheep, turkeys and chicken here and have a five strand 20 thousand volt, 6 Joule electric fence around the entire perimeter as well as security cameras and a LGD. I loathe livestock thieves and don't intend to face a trial if one happens to disappear from my property... Did I mention my backhoe?

dirty rotten scumbags.probably arabs.
I live in Michigan, the new home for the arabs.

The only way is to put them up in a barn every night or pen them up close to the house. We've have some problems with this in my area and the sheriff is no help unless they show up and the thieves are still there.
If you catch them it on your property, you can walk right up with in 100 yards or less and fire a high-power rifle right down the grill of the car or truck and disable it on the spot and likely destroying the engine.
The cops or sheriff will have to call for a roll back to remove it.

Well, in that case, happy hunting then but, if anything "awkward" happens, just remember to abide by the 3 S's----shoot, shovel and shut up.

I read somewhere that if there is a mosque, they consider it all belongs to Muslims. That is what probably conveniently enters their brain--if they have one--that it's their stuff anyway. Maybe there's a way to poison the goat hide so it marks the perpetrators or sickens them when they handle it. That's nasty, but they are nastier. What do your good neighbors say?

I have my barn area fenced into paddocks and it's right beside the house. I pen all my goats in every night and let them back on pasture in the morning. It's coyotes here that put them in danger. Sorry you lost your baby.

Have you thought about letting some pigs run with your goats? Might make an arab move on to the next goat farm.

Pass it forward...
A cougar is another possibility. One took our goddaughter's 4-H goat out of a pen with 6' walls.

Actually, that festival, Vijaya Dashami, is already past--it was October 22 this year.

A security camera with night vision would be a good addition to your farm. If it's too rich for your blood, try ordering some of those motion detectors from Harbor Freight, they often go on coupon for $11.99 each. Turn the receiver on at night, keeping the electric eye aimed at the door of your home and shed where your livestock are sheltering-if it goes off, it will wake the deaf, you can change your breeches after you deal with the intruder.

Very good idea along with a game camera or two. V

Talk is cheap
Get a couple of piglets and raise them with the goats.

Great solution...and I really needed a chuckle because I am seeing red...mad as a wet hornet...I am so sorry to hear about this, momof23goats, including the 3 poisoned dogs.

I hope you get your goat back, and that Law Enforcement does something about this.

The cult of Islam needs to be banned in this country for many reasons...but like that is going to happen.

Honk If You Think Geese Are Good Guard Dogs

Some cops in China now use feathered friends instead of canine companions.

Police in rural parts of China's Xinjiang Province are no longer turning to dogs to stand guard at police stations at night. They're using geese instead. And it works.

According to a recent report, a guy tried to break into a police station to take back a motorbike confiscated by the cops. The guard geese sounded the alarm, awakening the sleeping officers.

But ... really? Guard geese?

To gain insights into goose behavior, we spoke with Patrick Cumins, director of bird conservation at Audubon Connecticut, who has seen barnyard geese in action at a neighborhood park.

Would geese make good guards?

They have amazing hearing. And almost all birds have amazing eyesight. Not only do they see better at a distance than humans do, they can also see things up close [better than we do].

Our eyes have three different color sensors that combine to build the picture in our brain. Birds add a fourth—ultraviolet. They have a much wider range of wavelengths they can view. Things are going to look sharper. And they can pick out smaller things [as well as movement].

And I guess they're not shy when an intruder is sighted?

In terms of alerting people to activity, yeah, they're very vigilant. They're territorial. And certain species can be quite loud, especially the barnyard varieties.

Besides guarding a police station, are there any other things geese might guard?

I understand people in this country are using geese to guard their free-range chicken flocks.

So they're just really good watchdogs.

That's the beauty of it: It's instinct for them. They're territorial. They could fly off anywhere they want to, but they hang around their home. That's just the way a lot of geese act. Certain of them can be rather vigilant in defending their territory.

Would the same be true of swans?

I haven't heard of anybody using guard swans, but they can even be more aggressive than geese [when it comes to] defending their territory. There are stories of them knocking people out of kayaks, tangling with people and actually injuring them.

Is there any danger a guard goose would turn on a cop?

I don't think so. They seem to recognize you as part of the flock. If a new person came, the uniform might help the geese to acclimate [to that person]. People might all look the same [to a goose] if they're wearing uniforms.

Could a criminal distract a guard goose?

Dogs you can give some steak and they might be a little distracted. It's pretty hard to give geese something that's going to distract them enough where they wouldn't make noise. They might make more noise if you throw something yummy at them. And once they get going, they're hard to quiet down.

What would you feed them, anyway?

Geese are fairly easy to take care of. Feeding them is relatively inexpensive. There are specific [feed] mixes for geese, but they're happy eating cracked corn and grazing on grass.

Do geese have any other police-like traits?

The barnyard geese that live in our park are used to lots of people. They're not afraid of cars. They can be brazen. A major road goes right by [the park where the geese live]. Every once in a while all traffic stops as the geese walk across the road.

So a goose might also apply for a job as a crossing guard?

Yeah. You see one of the more dominant geese stop and stare down the cars while the others are crossing

Post a notice on Craig's list and the local free ads papers, that you had that goat stolen that it was being injected with pig hormones to treat for tape worms for a scientific experiment. And that if the goat was eating, that the possibility of pig tape worms even if cooked would be highly contagious and that they should turn them selves in, to be treated.

I had geese but my neighbor shot them, but I think I will get more. had 3 great pyreens and he poisoned them. now my goat is coming up missing, when h died last feb. had 52 chickens, now have 6, and no no animals can get to them, they were stolen. its terrible for sure. I hate t hot wire the goat pen because of baby goats, touching the pen. I am at my wits end. really I am.

I have shot at people 3 times. yes have and shot out a truck. the trailer with 3 rounds and one round in through the cab those 2 arabs started yelling and running, they got out of my drive way and left fast.

.i am not afraid to shoot.

I am thinking of letting the michigan milita use my land. I did once before and had 32 squads here, it was a sight to be hold. because the mlitia's are not against the law, this county just doesn't like them.............they throw the in jail for 180 days, then tur nthem loose. yup know 3 that got caught. that's what happened.

I also wrote n the Jackson county, Michigan time line, telling them I thought it was pretty oor they could not return my phone call, or wait until I could get to the door. si they have no description of the goat taken.pissed off ya think? yup I am. royally.

Mom, you need to set up some trail cams in your barnyard and driveway. They are pretty cheap, the ones I have are less than $30.00 on sale, and they take darned good daytime pics and amazingly decent B&W night time pics.

Shooting at people is just going to get YOU landed in jail.
