Sopo posted this in Dutch's PERFECT STORM thread, but I think it warrants more attention just in case war is to follow. Seasonality and Elliott Wave market patterns are conducive to a panic here that could come in the form of a geopolitical crisis, even an apocalyptic one. Since the source is DEBKA, I found other sources to confirm (see below). BTW, if Obama was so brazen as to partake in a strike on Iran before the November elections, it seems to me he is acting to vilify American democracy since this would be globally construed as an "October surprise" world-endangering "Zionist" political gambit.
US deploys second air carrier in Persian Gulf with 60 warplanes

USS Abraham Lincoln now opposite Iran
The United States has posted a second aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln, in the Persian Gulf and northern Arabian Sea. The announcement came from the Pentagon Tuesday, Oct. 19, two days after the vessel put into port at Fifth Fleet headquarters in Manama, Bahrain. debkafile's sources note that this is the first time in two years that Washington had deployed two aircraft carriers at same time - not just one - in waters opposite Iran and Afghanistan.
Facing Iran at the moment therefore is the USS Harry S. Truman which has four squadrons of Hornet and Super Hornet fighter-bombers plus Squadron 116 of early warning, surveillance and command craft, Squadron 131 of electronic warfare craft, two more squadrons of helicopters and one of transports.
The Abraham Lincoln's arrival has raised the number of US fighter-bombers in Iran's neighborhood to 120.
The carrier was accompanied by the guided missile cruiser USS Cape St. George.
The Pentagon announcement was careful to avoid mentioning Iran: US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates approved the presence of a second carrier… to provide surge support for coalition forces in Afghanistan "and to support existing maritime security operations."
But the significance of two massive American naval-aerial strike forces opposite Iranian shores was not lost on Tehran, our sources report. Wednesday, Oct. 20, Brig. Gen. Hussein Salami, Deputy Commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, came out with this statement: "The enemies of Iran should know the Islamic establishment's red lines and not trespass them."

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Pentagon has sent a second aircraft carrier to support the troop buildup in Afghanistan.
The Navy says the USS Abraham Lincoln and the guided missile cruiser USS Cape St. George arrived in the region over the weekend. The Lincoln brings an airwing that can send an additional 60 aircraft into the war - adding to aircraft already there and flying from the carrier the USS Harry S. Truman.
A statement from the 5th Fleet in Bahrain says Defense Secretary Robert Gates approved the sending of the second carrier to help coalition forces in Afghanistan and support maritime security operations.
The fleet's area of responsibility includes the Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea and areas off of the Horn of Africa where a number of nations cooperate on anti-piracy operations.

The mission of the Lincoln Strike Group while deployed will focus on maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts, which help establish conditions for regional stability.

The deployment is part of an ongoing rotation of forward-deployed forces to support maritime security operations and operating in international waters around the globe, working with other coalition maritime forces.

USS Abraham Lincoln Deploying In October
POSTED: 7:52 a.m. PDT September 5, 2004
EVERETT -- The Everett-based aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln will leave on deployment next month, not early next year as previously planned. The Navy made the surprise announcement Saturday.
The Lincoln, which has a crew of about 5,000 when the carrier's air wing is on board, was last deployed to assist the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq following the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. The Lincoln spent a record 290 days at sea and returned to Everett in May 2003.
The Navy said the carrier would deploy to the western Pacific Ocean. But Navy Lieutenant Kim Marks said she could not say whether the Lincoln would be returning to the Persian Gulf and the war in Iraq.

The U.S. is preparing for a massive step up of air strikes in Afghanistan with Defence Secretary Robert Gates ordering a second aircraft carrier into the Arabian Sea off the coast of Pakistan, said a media report.
USS Lincoln has been ordered to be deployed in the northern Arabian Sea apparently as part of moves to support a major offensive against Taliban in Afghanistan.
“Two carriers operating off the coast of Pakistan means about 120 aircraft available for missions over Afghanistan. And that's not counting U.S. Air Force missions flown out of Bagram and Kandahar,” CBS news reported.
“Although American commanders frequently say ‘we cannot kill our way out of this war,' that appears to be exactly what the U.S. is doing — unleashing air strikes and special operations raids against the Taliban in an effort to force them to the bargaining table,” said the news channel.
The CBS said this was not likely to change the mind of the Taliban leadership, which remains safe in Pakistan.
But the Pentagon officials hope that local commanders in Afghanistan will either come over to the government side or agree to cease fire.
