CHICAGO --

President-elect Obama says getting a dog for his two daughters when the family moves into the White House in January is "a major issue." Obama told reporters Friday that his mention on election night of getting a puppy for Sasha and Malia had "generated more interest on his Web site than any other topic." He said, "We have two criteria that have to be reconciled. One is that Malia is allergic so it has to be hypoallergenic." Obama also said there were a number of breeds that were hypoallergenic, but that the family's preference is to adopt a dog from a shelter. Obama added: "But obviously, a lot of shelter dogs are mutts like me. So whether we're going to be able to balance those two things, I think, is a pressing issue on the Obama household."

This is incredible, we're now deep into an obamma recession (the DOW is down about 10% since his election) and he's talking about dogs! The incompetence of this guy is simply breathtaking. He's quickly becoming a laughing stock; 'moron and chief'.

Success is in the details.

If Obama is taking the time to get the right dog for his girls, then he will take the time to think through bigger issues.

I'll give him a pass on this one. It's important to his kids and he'll soon enough be completely consumed with more pressing business.
He's not pres yet so take care of some home front matters.

This is a good thing. He's paying attention to his daughters, who have a tough road ahead too. Remember - they'll grow up with security in constant tow (imagine that at a slumber party), and the public's constant watch.

Selecting a pet is not something that one does without careful thought anyway.

He was joking when he said it's "a major issue." It was a lighthearted comment. Did you see it live (or the video) or just read the transcript? If you'd seen it live, you'd know that he was smiling when the question was asked. And everyone was laughing while he was answering, including those on stage with him, IIRC.

You've got to be kidding!!!!!!!!!!!

He hasn't ever had a dog, which tells me those people do not deserve a dog. They obviously don't even like dogs.

Him taking his time getting one just means he's indecisive and putting it off as long as he's able.

I can't believe anybody could seriously think this means what you said. Ludicrous.

I agree.

I'd also add that muzzies don't like dogs.

How do you know he's never had a dog? Just because he doesn't have one now?

P.S. Obama is not a Muslim. His father was raised one but became an atheist before Barack was born.

Oh please Grantbo...your grasping at straws here. I can't stand Obama and I can't stand the things that he believes in as he's leading us further down the road to marxism and collectivism but don't over analize every word he says. It was lighthearted banter in response to a reporters question. No more and no less. Nothing more to be read into that than Bush and his dog Barney. If were going to slam him then lets slam him for his policies and what he does not for little chickenchit stuff like this.

Let me explain something. Anything that is brought up in a press conference is worth bringing up here.

And that's the way it is.
