Those Pinephone products won’t even ship until mid-February, and even then aren’t usable. They’re going to the Linux community for “software development” purposes.

Whoa. That's weird. My only suggestion is to call them and talk to a real person. The few problems over the past 10+ years I've used them, they have had odd but sympathetic support staff. Haha! When they couldn't come up with a "by the book" reason for the problem or solution, they just comped me and reset my service.
That was my understanding, but after the last few months am I wrong in thinking they really never turn off tracking and listening?Theoretically you can turn that off

I bought it to support development and learn. Smart phones are new to me, and perhaps one of Ron Braxman's de-Googled Android phones would have been a wiser choice, but I hope to see a usable PinePhone soon. I am NOT going to submit to Google or Apple's snooping.
