Those Pinephone products won’t even ship until mid-February, and even then aren’t usable. They’re going to the Linux community for “software development” purposes.

If going grey is a major factor in phone selection, read through the recommendations in "Digital Exhaust" to make sure your new equipment and software works in coordination of your goals.

The instruction book was linked to here on the board:

I can't speak to security/tracking, but you may find an old smartphone is useful even without cellular service, since WiFi still works.

I use my old android phone for podcasts, Audible, Skype, etc. Saves wear/tear on other devices. The iPhone 6 Plus is several years old though, so if on the original battery, a $50 battery-replacement from Apple may make sense. Only problem with iPhone 6 is that the next version of iOS probably won't support it.

You cannot get privacy with an iPhone it isn't possible

You can degoogle an android and have privacy, but you have to properly degoogle witch is fairly involved and requires a google account spoofer.

I received the 3GB RAM, $200 version running Manjaro Linux in late December. The KDE desktop version is to commence shipments today:
KDE Community Edition shipping update thread.
I bought it to support development and learn. Smart phones are new to me, and perhaps one of Ron Braxman's de-Googled Android phones would have been a wiser choice, but I hope to see a usable PinePhone soon. I am NOT going to submit to Google or Apple's snooping.

Whoa. That's weird. My only suggestion is to call them and talk to a real person. The few problems over the past 10+ years I've used them, they have had odd but sympathetic support staff. Haha! When they couldn't come up with a "by the book" reason for the problem or solution, they just comped me and reset my service.

True. Sometimes they do have issues with areas, but I've always found they fix most any problem nicely. They WANT customers.

AT&T and T-mobile support BLM & probably Antifa also-not only would I not trust them in the “grey” factor due to PRISM but I wouldn’t give them a nickel of my money. Spectrum also safe (if you encrypt data) is safe but owned by Ted Turner (CNN). My personal choice would be Sprint and they offer a VoIP VPN secure service.

Tracking can never be turned off because if the phone is on, it’s pinging the nearest tower(s) every 30 seconds or so. That’s EVERY cell phone.

How about a basic flip phone and look up Consumer Cellular and check them out. They will sell you a basic flip phone with no text or internet ability's so no store is tracking you or sending you unwanted advertisements as you walk by and so on.

I've seen the KDE Plazma phones in articles; they really look interesting. That's what I use for my desktop on my laptops, Plazma. It was buggy when it first came on the scene but it's really shaped up into being better than regular KDE. And you can tweak the daylights out of it too.
