Neither here nor there.
Thanks all- he is 14. At ER - just got checked in and fever went down to 101.5. That was after a 500mg of Tylenol at home. Multiple readings of 106f. We are super “crunchy” (Healthy foodies) and this is his first Tylenol. That’s how freaked I was. Getting checked out for bacterial fever. But after a half hour of after posting this he is alert and wanting Taco Bell and IKEA chicken…. This kid I tell ya. Power of prayer. Thank you.

The song Should I stay or should I go now is really starting to play in my head. It’s packed in the ER.

Glad to hear the fever is coming down. Kids they'll definitely test your blood pressure a time or two.

1) I asked about age because somewhere in the middle teens, fevers at that level go from "It's a child, yeah, he's hot!" to "Now yer just (to quote my Medic teacher) cooking the squash." (Ya had to know McNutt)

2) 500 of TYLENOL is one of the standard answers to that level of fever. Glad it worked that well, and it likely worked that well as he's never had one before.

Praying.

Seeing lots of crazy viruses right now.
If you can't get medical assistance right away some things that have worked for us:

Lukewarm bath. Keep hair wet.
Motrin and tylenol offset every 3 hours.
Fluids, whatever he will take.
Popcycles are great.
Egg whites on feet with wet socks. (Don't ask)

We had a 104.1 in 3yo last night.

Keep us posted!

106F is definitely some type of infection, and does sound bacterial. Do not leave until you get it figured out, or at least solidly on the way. I battled fevers like that a few times as a child, it has left me with two lifelong learning challenges ... dyslexia and APD. Even if the dyslexia isn't, the APD was certainly caused by the fevers in early childhood. Even at short duration something is out of whack.

Prayers for your child! That 106* fever is worrisome, even after the docs have brought it down. I saw someone mentioned west nile as a possible culprit. I was thinking another affliction.

Maybe check him for Legionnaire's disease? I got it about 5 years ago-felt fine then fever of 105* hit me like a brick wall. It's been running around here and there lately. According to the local health dept. its Legionella bacteria in water that somehow becomes atomized and it is breathed in. Fever, malaise, pulmonary congestion as bad as pneumonia. I was in ICU for 4 days.
Mine the best they could figure was from breathing atomized standing water. I was doing car inspections and one had standing water in the cowl. It was very hot, this happened in the middle of August.

I'd hope that is not the case with your son; but have them check for it just to be sure.

Heartfelt prayers for your son!
