Infection MRSA - Believe it or not

I had a nose that decided to swell up on me in August. I went to the doctor and she sent me straight to the hospital. The culture came back positive for a MRSA based cellulitis infection. Man did the hurt! I was in the hospital for 4 days, though I felt silly for being there just for a swollen nose. I am grateful that I was released (2 days) before I had to go back to school to prepare for the new year.

My doctor referred me to an ENT to follow up. He is referring me to an allergist as well as an Infectious Disease Specialist at the University of Iowa Hospitals. He wants to make sure that the infection doesn't come back.

So, does anyone know of any vitamin therapy that is effective for treating/preventing reinfection of MRSA? I know that super doses of Vitamin C will help, but are there other vitamins anyone would suggest, and at what doses?

Thanks for the suggestions!

Bactroban/municoprin oint applied twice daily to the inside of you're nostrils is a must
for two weeks.
This is a Must.

Glad you're ok!

is it on the outside of your nose or the inside? If outside the first thing I would try is raw honey...it must be raw though! I am hooked on honey lol! the other week I was slicing jalapeno peppers with a freshly sharpened knife. Yep...I sliced my thumb. Took off a huge hunk of skin on the side. there was a big hole at the end of my thumb that I was sure would leave a permanent reminder. DD came and took the sliced part the rest of the way off, we let it bleed for a bit and then we poured honey on it and bandaged it. The next day you could barely see it! There is no scar and other than being slightly numb you can't tell it.
Vitamin D might also help.

Thanks for the replies. Used bactroban for 10 days. The crack where the infection got into the tissue in just inside the nostril. I take Calcuim + Vitamin D. Think that will do? I believe that I will up my Vitamin C and begin megadoses of that. I am fighting allergies that are settling into a cold, so it's time to up the C anyway. Thanks!!

Careful, because for many people, vitamin C can dry out the mucous membranes, which might make things worse for you. You might want to do a search on Shane's thread here somewhere about a supplement that has some very good studies backing it up for s strengthening the immune system. He posted it back when H1N1 was causing problems, and recently posted it again due to the Ebola threat.

Summerthyme - thanks for the heads up. I will check it out! I've got such sinus problems with this and allergies, I don't want to make it worse.

A LOT of ppl carry this in their noses. Just be sure to watch it carefully! It will be back.

I would take 5000 units of D3 and a B complex daily. Would also drink OJ and V8 (or just tomato juice) on a daily basis for the C if you decide not to take it in supplement form. Good luck and stay on top of it! Itching and crusting are one of the first signs IF it's not way up in your nose.

I do take B6 and B12 every day. I did take B1, but I ran out and there hasn't been any on the shelf for several months. I will check into the D3. The entry point of the MRSA into the tissue was nearly at the end of my nose, but just inside the nostril, so not way up in my nose. Thank you for the comment!!!
