It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
If you watch or download a movie, please comment or like it to guide future selections.
Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.

The movie trailers are located in post #9.

Enjoy the Show!

The first movie is The Andromeda Strain. This 1971 sci-fi thriller is based on the Michael Crichton book. I accidentally found this movie 2 days ago. It is in English with no subtitles and decent quality; a rare trifecta for this movie! I took that as a sign it should be posted again. I suggest you download or watch this soon. Experience tells me it will be removed soon. This is a personal favorite movie of several on TB2K including myself. - 601 -

- A team of top scientists work feverishly in a secret, state-of-the-art laboratory to discover what has killed the citizens of a small town and learn how this deadly contagion can be stopped.

The second movie is Sleepers. This 1996 crime drama stars Brad Pitt, Kevin Bacon, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, and Minnie Driver.
I watched this movie earlier today and quickly decided it was going to be an unplanned 7th movie. It is a good drama and the stars show why they're stars. Just be aware some of the brutalization scenes are not easy to watch or imagine.

Set in 1960's Hell's Kitchen, NYC, Sleepers follows four young teens whose lives are forever changed when a prank goes disastrously wrong. They are sent to Wilkinson Home for Boys, a place for reform where they are treated brutally. Fast forward thirteen years, and a chance encounter brings the four boys together again for a chance at revenge.

The sixth movie is Assassination. This 1987 action film stars Charles Bronson, Jill Ireland, and Stephen Elliot.

Jay Killian (Charles Bronson) had been a Secret Service agent guarding the President, but for the inauguration of the recently elected president, he is assigned to the first lady, Lara Royce (Jill Ireland). Lara, a perpetually indignant, arrogantly feministic lady, initially hates the methodical and rules-following Killian, and so she does all she can to avoid him and disregard his safety procedures. The story gets complicated when repeated attempts are made on Lara's life. Eventually, the shaken Lara decides to trust Killian's instincts and precautionary methods. The pair embark on a difficult and often perilous cross-country journey, with the assassins close on their heels.

The seventh movie is Fantastic Voyage. This 1966 sci-fi adventure stars Stephen Boyd, Raquel Welch, Donald Pleasence, Edmund O'Brien, and Arthur Kennedy. This is a fun, 60's sci-fi movie.

An important scientist is nearly assassinated. In order to save him by removing a blood clot in his brain, a submarine with a small crew of professionals is shrunken to microscopic size and injected into his blood stream. Problems arise almost as soon as they enter the bloodstream.

I love the Andromeda Strain! However, it would be far too boring for youth today. No car crashes, explosions, people being shot, or sex.

The original Star Wars trilogy are the only films of the franchise worth seeing.

Fantastic Voyage - Raquel as a brunette AND without ginormous cleavage jutting out. Great film.

You outdid yourself! I was looking for your thread tonight; I needed my movie fix BAD. And as always, you never ever! disappoint. Frankly this week blows my mind! It's good!!!!!!

Andromeda Strain is a favorite, haven't seen the original Star Wars in forever. Same with the rest of them, those will be a treat to watch. And the Incredible Voyage is one I know I haven't seen since I was what, 10? 11? Good movie. The others are interesting too and well worth downloading. The film noir offerings by Housecarl are literally icing on the movie cake. People bandy about the word "cool"-the film noir offerings are the epitome of cool.

1911, have you ever considered buying shares in a SSD hard drive company? Because I've got all 3 laptops mirrored with prep info and your movie offerings. Should the poop hit the propellers whatever laptop I grab has a year's worth of quality entertainment on it.
I literally filled up my Blackberry Playbook tablet (256GB no less) with your movies. The Playbook has the best screen quality to watch your offerings, more than once me and the missus have been meaning to go to bed early; only to pull out one of your excellent offerings and snuggle in bed watching them on the Playbook. And staying up half the night too.

:applaud::applaud::applaud::applaud::applaud::applaud::applaud::applaud::applaud::applaud::applaud:

Fabulous movie selections, minister of culture and enlightenment!

Just finished watching the Andromeda Strain. Great quality download and the movie was excellent! Good sci-fi on a rainy Friday night is always a good choice.

Compare this movie to the garbage that passes for entertainment today. Very little cussing, one non sexual boob shot, hard science is the plot, genuinely good actors-artists- and not a single social justice warrior or non white lives are better than yours point or inference made.

Your movies are a little slice of heaven in the midst of the craziness that is 2020.

May I suggest: ‘Soylent Green’ .....if it’s not too close to home.:hof:

In the year 2022, the cumulative effects of overpopulation, pollution and some apparent climate catastrophe have caused severe worldwide shortages of food, water and housing. There are 40 million people in New York City alone, where only the city's elite can afford spacious apartments, clean water and natural food, and even then at horrendously high prices. The homes of the elite usually include concubines who are referred to as "furniture" and serve the tenants as slaves.

Within the city lives NYPD detective Frank Thorn and his aged friend Sol Roth, a highly intelligent analyst, referred to as a "Book". Roth remembers the world when it had animals and real food, and possesses a small library of reference materials to assist Thorn. Thorn is tasked with investigating the murder of the wealthy and influential William R. Simonson, and quickly learns that Simonson had been assassinated and was a board member of Soylent Industries.

Soylent Industries, which derives its name from a combination of "soy" and "lentil", controls the food supply of half of the world and sells the artificially produced wafers, including "Soylent Red" and "Soylent Yellow". Their latest product is the far more flavorful and nutritious "Soylent Green", advertised as being made from ocean plankton, but is in short supply. As a result of the weekly supply bottlenecks, the hungry masses regularly riot, and they are brutally removed from the streets by means of police vehicles that scoop the rioters with large shovels and dump them within the vehicle's container.

With the help of "furniture" Shirl, with whom Thorn begins a relationship, his investigation leads to a priest that Simonson had visited and confessed to shortly before his death. The priest is only able to hint at a gruesome truth before he himself is murdered. By order of the governor, Thorn is instructed to end the investigation, but he presses on. He is attacked during a riot, by the same assassin who killed Simonson, but the killer is crushed by a police vehicle.

Roth brings two volumes of oceanographic reports Thorn had procured from Simonson's apartment to the team of Books at the Supreme Exchange. The books confirm that the oceans no longer produce plankton, and deduce that Soylent Green is produced from some inconceivable supply of protein. They also deduce that Simonson's murder was ordered by his fellow Soylent Industries board members, knowing he was increasingly troubled by the truth.

Roth is so disgusted with his life in a degraded world that he decides to "return to the home of God" and seeks assisted suicide at a government clinic. Thorn finds a message left by Roth and rushes to stop him, but arrives too late. Roth and Thorn are mesmerized by the euthanasia process's visual and musical montage—long-gone forests, wild animals, rivers and ocean life. Before dying, Roth whispers what he has learned to Thorn, begging him to find proof, so that the Council of Nations can take action.

Thorn boards a truck transporting bodies from the euthanasia center to a recycling plant, where the secret is revealed – human corpses are being converted into Soylent Green. Thorn is spotted and kills his attackers, but is himself wounded. As Thorn is tended to by paramedics, he urges his police chief to spread the truth he has discovered and initiate proceedings against the company. While being taken away, Thorn shouts out to the surrounding crowd, "Soylent Green is people!"

This is a made for TV miniseries based on the novel by James Clavell. All episodes are combined into one file.
An English navigator - 'Blackthorne' ('Anjin-san' as we later come to know him) - becomes both a player and pawn in the complex political games of feudal Japan. Although intended for an english-speaking audience, the Japanese characters speak in Japanese throughout the drama, except when translating for Blackthorne. The drama is presented from Blackthorne's point of view so that what he doesn't understand, we shouldn't understand either. However, like great operatic performances which transcend the language in which they are performed, the magnificent talents of the Japanese cast rarely leave us unclear of their character's meaning, intentions, and gravity.

The performances of Toshirô Mifune (Lord Yoshi Toranaga), Furankî Sakai (Lord Kashigi Yabu, Daimyo of Izu), Hideo Takamatsu (Lord Buntaro), Yūki Meguro (Omi, Head Samurai of Anjiro), and Nobuo Kaneko (Ishido, Ruler of Osaka Castle) are masterful and crackle with an authenticity that leaves no doubt they are the masters of life and death in their respective realms.

Yôko Shimada's (Lady Toda Buntaro 'Mariko') superbly graceful performance is equally masterful as it is bewitching, tender, and nuanced. The placid expression she wears mask an inner passion and depth of emotion that, at times, seem to be on the verge of breaking her noble decorum. If you are ever dumbfounded as to the significance of a particular scene look at her eyes for the true meaning of the moment.

Apart from the wonderful Richard Chamberlain (whose life as Anjin-san/Blackthorne this story centers upon) the other great western actors include John Rhys-Davies (the Spanish navigator and personal friend and national enemy of Blackthorne), Alan Badel (Father Visitor Dell'Aqua the Jesuit mastermind and de facto Portuguese ambassador in residence), Damien Thomas (Father Alvito as Blackthorne's cunning and pious nemesis and sometime friend), Vladek Sheybal (Ferriera the openly racist mercantilist Captain of the Black Ship).

The delightfully urbane narration of Orson Welles provides the audience with much appreciated insights into the various twists and turns of the plot and is often, in the course of the same sentence, gravely serious, humorous, insightful, and playful.
