I am hoping this is just some kid talking. The last time I ignored a kid talking...was a few hours before Duncan was declared to have Ebola; so I won't totally dismiss this person....

Ebola is now in memphis at methodist university Its confirmed and supposedly "classified" well its v good that my mom is nosey

The tweet has now been removed...no explanation
; that too holds similar to violin boy (just what I called him because it was part of his twitter handle) that leaked the Dallas info...all of his tweets disappeared too, although it took a day or so.

ETA: two tweets by two other people that said they had relatives that worked at that hospital also and were "confirming" ebola have also been removed. It's a good thing I totally believe everything in life is a coincidence. not :msk: :scn:

ETA2: for the new ones that don't know me...I don't believe in coincidences except on rare occasions....this isn't really one of them.

Good afternoon. As you may have heard, a patient was transferred this morning from Methodist South Hospital to Methodist University Hospital to undergo testing for the Ebola virus. It’s important to know that this patient did NOT meet all screening criteria for the virus, but we chose to be abundantly cautious and take this patient directly to a special isolation room, separate from the main hospital. Doctors have established an alternate diagnosis, but until Ebola is definitively ruled out, we will follow the strictest procedures for patient well-being and caregiver safety.

Memphians can be proud of the expertise and teamwork that all have demonstrated, including local and state health authorities and emergency medical personnel. We are committed to keeping you informed and ask for your patience as we work to provide you with confirmed information. We'll share additional information as we learn more.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The patient currently being tested for ebola is resting comfortably in isolation at Methodist University Hospital, but first arrived at Methodist South in Whitehaven.

As tests happen inside, people outside of the facility are speaking about how they feel.

Shay Jones was recently released from MUH for an unrelated illness, and was shocked to hear someone is being tested for ebola.

"I hope its not true but that's all I can say," said Jones.

Jones was patient at MUH for the past five days. She says everything seemed calm and business went on as usual inside the hospital.

"If there is an ebola victim in our community, then it needs to be contained immediately," Jones added.

Patients and visitors say Methodist should be commended for coming forward early with their suspicions about a possible ebola case.

"And as long as they are doing the right thing, then I can't say nothing bad about this cause they saved my life Wednesday," Jones noted. "I flat lined. So I mean, this is a good hospital."

People who spoke with WMC Action News 5's Ben Watson say whether this turns out to be a case of ebola or not, it's a good reminder for you to wash your hands often and do other things to prevent the spread of disease.

The hospital is expects to have the results sometime Sunday night.

Just a guess on my part - he has malaria but they also strongly suspect and/or know ebola as well, and they're waiting for CDC to arrive before they go forward with the press conference....

I suspect that too.

ETA: remember, the CDC wasn't going to be testing things unless it was to confirm results or was considered necessaary...

Sources tell @LocalMemphis that preliminary tests suggests #memphis patient being tested for #ebola actually has malaria.

(then we get the complete answer during the "statement" at 8?...)

Doctors in Memphis treating a patient for #Ebola believe the person is not infected...but are doing tests just in case.

how many bookies are taking odds for these cases, do you think?

I don't know, but if it is NOT ebola, then why are they playing the game of hyping it up (PD and FD statements and one from the mayor, etc) unless they are just trying to show that they could handle it if it had been? Still, makes no sense to drag it out if it's negative. CDC should have had the sample sometime between 12 and 2.

thought i'd read here that e frequently presents together with malaria. Wondering if that is being used as a misdirection.

They can dramatize all they want as far as I'm concerned, as long as they finally let us know what the test results are. I am only half a state away from Memphis, and not many hours away by way of I-40.

Lots of cross country traffic on I-40 and lots of restaurants and gas stations all along the highway. Easy to drop a few viruses here and there on gas pumps, money, restaurant tables, chairs, dinnerware, etc., as well as restrooms.

Could it be that all these negative cases being presented are to lull "us" into a false sense of security so that when a lot of real cases start presenting there won't be immediate panic and more time to have the box cars waiting.

Looks Harmless

Since Bams is pushing for the states to rescind their quarantine regs, I think that he probably is "positive", but that they (CDC/gov) could make a statement that he is "negative" and force the Hospital/docs etc to keep quiet about it with the threat of jail for info leakers.

Then, they could point at all the "panic/hysteria" the "State" caused over "nothing" and score a point.

I thought I read hours ago that someone he was with said he was lying and had been traveling in those countries. I'm trying to find that now.

Either way, it sure seems like a lot of drama there for a negative ebola. They aren't helping the locals much, imho.

"universally accepted practices"

so .... what? Protocol by "poll", now? Whatever wins the popular vote of being "universally accepted" becomes the protocol--rather than what experience and objective observation (from West Africa, where LEVEL 4 hazmat was the rule and still wasn't enough, sometimes, to prevent infection) could tell them---if they were willing to accept it...

Using leeches to bleed patients used to be "universally accepted practices," too...

Mid-South patient tests negative for Ebola
Posted 10:24 am, October 26, 2014, by Ashley Forest, Updated at 08:33pm, October 26, 2014
Ebola

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The patient at Methodist University Hospital that was being tested for Ebola results came out negative Sunday evening.

The Methodist University Hospital released the following statement:

The state health department just alerted us that the test result was negative for Ebola for the patient at Methodist University Hospital. We will continue to monitor and care for the patient. We proceeded with an abundance of caution today, and this experience makes our staff even better prepared should we face a case in the future. We are all pleased with the outcome, and believe we are now even better prepared going forward. We’re grateful for the leadership and guidance from our local and state health departments.

The patient has been isolated and is still in stable condition, resting comfortably.

Memphis City Mayor A C Wharton released the following statement regarding the situation:

I have been briefed by officials of the Shelby County Health Department, the lead agency. I am pleased to hear that out of an abundance of caution appropriate steps have been taken to deal with this situation in a way that provides the best medical care for the patient, and that protects public health and safety. The first responders at Methodist are using universally accepted practices and coordinating efforts with local and state public health and safety officials, as well as federal officials if circumstances dictate. I am in contact with Police Dir. Armstrong and Fire Services Dir. Benson and the City stands ready to assist in any way we may be needed.

Methodist University Hospital released the following statement Sunday afternoon regarding the patient and the effectiveness of Methodist University employees:

Our experts have an alternate primary diagnosis that has been established, but in an abundance of caution, the team is still strictly following Ebola protocols to protect all caregivers and others. We are waiting for a definitive Ebola test result which we expect to receive this evening. We will report more as we learn more. Memphians can be proud of the expertise and teamwork that all have demonstrated, including local and state health departments and emergency medical personnel with whom we have collaborated. Our collective planning and training have prepared the team well.

So far the hospital is not giving any details on the patient possibly being treated for Ebola in Memphis.

Methodist officials confirmed Sunday morning that a patient was being tested for Ebola, whose symptoms do not meet all of the qualifications for Ebola.

Methodist University Hospital released the following statement Sunday morning:

This patient did not fit all of the screening guidelines, however we wanted to take an abundance of caution and have decided to place this patient in a special isolation room until we receive results from blood work that will tell us whether or not this patient has Ebola. Our associates have been undergoing extensive training and drilling, and we are well prepared to safely care for this patient.

A hospital visitor spoke with WREG’s Elise Preston and told her that hearing about a patient with possible Ebola was uncomfortable. That visitor has left Methodist South and took their sick family member with them. Other visitors have decided to stay in the Methodist South facility regardless of possible Ebola.

Earlier this week leaders met to discuss what they would do if Ebola came to Memphis.

The Chief Health Officer for the Shelby County Health Department, Dr. Hellen Morrow told WREG “The minimum requirement would be a private room for a patient with its private bath. It does not need or be a negative pressure room.”

Area hospitals have been training nursing staff and running drills.

New CDC regulations require every inch of skin to be covered with protective gear and every hospital to have an isolation area setup.

If someone is suspected of having Ebola, the county said they would be taken to whatever facility is closest.

However, there is no across-the-board plan for ambulances yet. Officials said they’re still looking at and considering different protocols.

Stay tuned to WREG for the latest on this story.

Praise The Lord for that second patient not testing for Ebola. Praying for them to get better soon. Praise The Lord for those of us who lives around the Memphis area! That is the second person that got tested for Ebola according to our local pharmacy today! The first one also came back negative!

Agree Praise God it wasn't this time but this is a wake-up call to be ready. I still have family in the metro area! Also worry about the New Madrid fault system for the Mid-South.
