Local news says the crack was discovered during routine maintenance and that the bridge will be closed indefinitely.
What a mess this will be!

i ll go up to hayti..... hit kennettOther than this old I-55 bridge, guess where the next bridge is to cross over into Arkansas?
That one earned a lot of hate when I had to drive it once, next trip went via Memphis, which was at least marginally better and newerThere is a bridge up by Sikeston. Road sucks. Especially the narrow bastard that goes to Cairo.
sorry SB..... I think it is officially Cairo...... it is an OLD creepy bridge...... but still works.......i go north to go south.......i ll go up to hayti..... hit kennett
It is a 4 lane pretty much from Springfield heading east. Either 160 or 60. Can’t remember. Then at sikeston it goes 2 lane and turns and goes over a really narrow old old bridge, over where the confluence of the Ohio river and the Mississippi River are. Interesting placeIs that the one that comes out of the Ozarks and into Kentucky? Two lane and looks and feels like a Carnival Ride.
Yep. I’ve pulled my horse trailer with living quarters over it. Nasty. That one earned a lot of hate when I had to drive it once, next trip went via Memphis, which was at least marginally better and newer
I believe there is one near west Helena, the Casino Is right there and Tunica is that way. Other wise it’s way down river.
We crossed that bridge when we went down to Missouri. Hubby was hauling our 20’ trailer filled with our belongings and was an inexperienced trailer driver. I’m not joking when I say I thought we were going to die that day. Why they don’t have that as going one way at a time is beyond me. By far the scariest thing we’ve ever driven. And I’ve been to the top of Mt. Washington, LOLThere is a bridge up by Sikeston. Road sucks. Especially the narrow bastard that goes to Cairo.
Heads up for anybody traveling through Memphis. The I-40 bridge across the Mississippi is closed due to a crack in the bridge. All traffic is being diverted to the I-55 bridge. I-55 bridge is better known as the "old" bridge. It's narrow and 2 lanes in each direction. Huge delays already.
Odd, right when they are pushing the huge infrastructure bill.
Yes infrastructure is only for white folks....Yeah, infrastructure is SO racist.

Yea,That infrastructure thing again.
Just a coincidence - trust me!Odd, right when they are pushing the huge infrastructure bill.
This was a coincidence, too...Funny how this works. Pipeline shut down because of a hacker and now commerce, think trucks hauling fuel, is shut down across one of the largest rivers in the world is ground to a stand still. It's almost like someone doesn't want any/much fuel getting to the east.
The bridge was probably being inspected by the same guys who were in charge of inspecting the levees in New Orleans right before Hurricane Katrina... They do a right good job, just as long as they have their Seeing Eye Dogs accompanying them...if the 'old bridge' is shut down....... then you need to load your magazines..... its a huge railroad bridge too.....why didnt they find a crack on friday? why today?
woke: Does the bridge improve equity? I think not; let it fall.
See, money saved already, no repairs needed.

If it’s the one across the Mississippi connecting Memphis, Tennessee to West Memphis, Arkansas, it most like does improve equity.
Three bridges cross Lake Pontchartrain...and he apparently forgot about all of the ferries. Don't discount the Port of New Orleans along with the many marinas. Then add in the two airports... Shuttng down the city would not be as easy as he thought. Too much weed, perhaps...I used to live with a commie in college for about a year. We were 19 at the time and he was fun to hang around with. He was/probably still is a heavy drinker, smoked dope...a real party animal. He also fancied himself a writer. He used to tell me about one story idea he had for a terrorist take over of New Orleans. It would be so easy he said...just block or blow up the bridges and hold the city hostage. For those who don't know N.O. is only accessible by 7 bridges (2 across the Mississippi, 2 across the Bonnet Carre Spillway, 2 across the Rigolets, and 1 across Lake Ponchartrain). A few flipped 18 wheelers or boats crashed into pilings could completely blockade the city...I always think of that when I hear of problems with major bridges.
I'm not too sure they are running the ferries anymore. I read recently where the ferry landing at the food of canal street was torn down. It's going to be a cluster F...Three bridges cross Lake Pontchartrain...and he apparently forgot about all of the ferries. Don't discount the Port of New Orleans along with the many marinas. There’s 4... I listed them all. The causeway, bonnet Carre and the two going out to Slidell.Three bridges cross Lake Pontchartrain...and he apparently forgot about all of the ferries. You do know that there are 2 bridges across the Mississippi at Memphis, right?
Christie never said close the bridge, he said close the fridge.I'm sure nobody from NJ remembers Bridgegate... Nothin' political involved, nah.
