ALERT Memphis bridge closed

Heads up for anybody traveling through Memphis. The I-40 bridge across the Mississippi is closed due to a crack in the bridge. All traffic is being diverted to the I-55 bridge. I-55 bridge is better known as the "old" bridge. It's narrow and 2 lanes in each direction. Huge delays already.

WOW! For those who dont know....... bridges over the Mississippi are few and far between. There is a refinery right by the old bridge. This complicates things.
yes there are only a few, there is a book called "Trainman" that deals with blowing up Mississippi River bridges by a dis grundled former employee, after reading that book I've never looked at MRB's the same.

ETA: The trucking between Memphis and Little Rock is almost bumper to bumper, its a nightmare in regular times.

God is good all the time

Other than this old I-55 bridge, guess where the next bridge is to cross over into Arkansas?

I used to live with a commie in college for about a year. We were 19 at the time and he was fun to hang around with. He was/probably still is a heavy drinker, smoked dope...a real party animal. He also fancied himself a writer. He used to tell me about one story idea he had for a terrorist take over of New Orleans. It would be so easy he said...just block or blow up the bridges and hold the city hostage. For those who don't know N.O. is only accessible by 7 bridges (2 across the Mississippi, 2 across the Bonnet Carre Spillway, 2 across the Rigolets, and 1 across Lake Ponchartrain). A few flipped 18 wheelers or boats crashed into pilings could completely blockade the city...I always think of that when I hear of problems with major bridges.

Buttfudge said, "I have a hershey highway you can use!" He is an expert in highway construction and maintenance, because he's GAY! That's why he was chosen. Because he s***s ****. That is his only credential. Same with the he/she. It's only qualification is that it's a social pariah and a circus freak.

This thing called the U.S.A. is going sideways fast. To the point where the admin is going to lose control and it takes on a life of its own. Like a snowball rolling down a hill. At some point it becomes unmanageable and destroys everything in its path. I never thought they would take it to this extreme but they are.

Moar, harder, faster.

Yep, and that will make for a long detour to get across to Arkansas, especially NE Arkansas. I don't know where the nearest ones are going north from Memphis.

That's ok, they've got those great little ferries that hold maybe eight cars. That'll take up the slack.

Quite a few coincidences of late...
It would be great to get some leadership on this and many other fronts. Xio and the ho are not up to the task. We really need a leader right now and they are absent without leave.

I nominate my 4 yr old neighbor boy.

He is smart. Makes things out of whatever he finds on the property and he is fearless. When lightning struck near my house the other day and set off all of the alarms in my house, he was going to put a rainslicker on that looks like the ones firemen wear and come over with his 2 German shepherds to save me.

Smarter and more leadership than anyone in DC.

there is one north of memphis but it actually crosses into the bootheel of MO on 412 near dyersburgTN

I don't know much about the area north of Memphis. I just know the bridges that cross over the River from MS into Arkansas and Louisiana.

Neither here nor there.
any sentient being who can still rationalize that the Xio regime and their friends in the alpha bits didn't have a huge hand in this shit is either willingly STOOPID or dead and buried

Thanks to klinton and obamanation very little was done to the bridges in the US in the past 30 or so years. As a result we will continue to hear stories like this one and on a daily basis.
