Remote Paramedical pain in the ass
Veronica and Violet were quiet as they drove down the road towards the rendezvous with the emergency medical helicopter out of Salt Lake. Both were aware of the audio recorder on the dash. This was the evidence they were going to present as added guilt and proof Veronica kept telling him to shut up. Nowhere on that tape was Violet’s voice. When it came time for Violet to give testimony, she would have her hair, makeup and mannerisms completely different than the ‘Paige’ persona. Not that she minded Paige’s look. It just wasn’t her. She thought maybe Marilyn Blonde. Having watched what Andrea did to make her ‘Paige’ she knew she could reverse engineer the opposite and make her look as much not like her as she could. ‘Gee sir, maybe he had a guilty conscious and was projecting. He seemed to be high on something. Didn’t the toxicology screen show PCP and LSD?’ Violet didn’t want to know where Veronica came up with the sample she had placed under his tongue. It would seriously muddy the waters for any accusations about the events of the entire transport. He was obviously hallucinating, seeing the face of his latest victim in the women transporting him to his trial.

The State Troopers closed off a section of the interstate for the helicopter. Turnover was quick and simple. Veronica did all the talking.

“This man is a US military prisoner being transported to his trial for attempted murder of a female marine to cover up other crimes. He attempted to escape. It took four of us to stop him. He was attempting suicide by cop. We think he was on something to shrug off some of his debilitating injuries. We got him re-secured and he seems to be unconscious from his wounds. I would recommend keeping him chemically restrained in flight, just in case. He’s too big to **** with in the bird. There should be Federal Marshalls at Salt Lake to deal with the custody issue while he is there. What questions do you have for me?”

The Paramedic was shaking his head before she was halfway through her explanation.

“Anyone else hurt in the melee?”

“No, that’s what took so long. We didn’t want to get ourselves hurt for this dumbass. Bangs and bruises. We will swing by the clinic on base if we need anything.”

By this time, Frickel was strapped to a long spine board, bundled up with all the C-Spine protocol gear, an IV running fluids and drugs and waiting for the medic to finish with Veronica.

Once the van door closed, Veronica picked up the recorder from the dash and turned it off.

“Well, that could have gone horribly wrong. Did you get hurt?” Veronica’s voice was full of concern for her best and oldest friend.

“Not hurt. Sore, stiff, worn out, but no, not hurt. Damn! He was quick! I had to work my ass off to make sure he didn’t get a hold of me! Let’s not do this again! Tool of Providence I can accept but I don’t want to do it all the time! Dad owes me big time!”

“Not Paige?”

“Veronica, that girl never had a chance. The best thing was her hitting the floor limp. It short-circuited his attack routine. You would have had to shoot him early and often. Paige would have been a toy poodle against a pit bull.” Violet was shaking her head to hide the delayed energy dump and fatigue she refused to show while Frickel was in the van. She was absolutely worn out.

“Well with him attacking you, you will have to stick around for the paperwork, interviews by the prosecution and the defense and so on and so forth.”

“I’m sure that will make my unit just thrilled.” The sarcasm dripped from her tone.

“Well they could have said no. Besides, I’m sure everything just went on hold with the 100% commitment to the west coast recovery. You weren’t teaching this month anyway. Better to be out here screwing off and hanging out than twiddling your thumbs there. Since you dumped Randal, you don’t have to worry about being away from him. You could come stay at the house with me. The spare bedroom is still set up like it was for your last visit.”

“Won’t Tim object to me there for the month this will probably take?”

“I don’t give a shit what he thinks. Besides, he extended for another year in DC, without telling me. He screwed me out of that position with the Counter-terrorism unit at Lackland. All so he could push his own career. I think this was the final straw. I’m seriously considering telling him to not come back. Ever.”

“Sounds like you mean it this time. Steak and eggs at Jeremiah's and we talk?”

As they drove and talked, they forgot until later the Body-cam was still on.

thats where the video Henrik, Sabine and Andrea are watching came from. It was unofficial. The tape recorder was the official, hence Violet never talked around it when it was on.

You're always at least one step ahead of us. Thanks.

My heart pumps piss for him. Probably a good tab of PCP under the tongue to send him into oblivion.
No just enough to nail him on a drug screen to buttress V&V's statement of events and why he's one step away from the drain pipe: he was so stoned & hyped on the drug, he wouldn't quit & was uncontrollable. In this case, testalie is appropriate,
G.

The three of them sat stunned by the imagery they had just watched. Their emotions ran the gambit. From elation to fear to triumph and back, they experienced it all.

Andrea was shaken the most by Violet’s explanations at the end about Paige’s chances if she had fought back. She had seen the immense amount of violence going on through the screen. She knew beyond a shadow of doubt Frickel would have killed Paige. She was still amazed at what Violet had avoided, and floored by the damage dealt out. It was not yet noon and she felt she needed several stiff drinks to calm her nerves.

Hendrik was stunned at the brutal fight and the damage done. The realization of what almost happened to Paige instead of what did turned his guts into a ball of icy lead. The knowledge Frickel would never be able to do that to anyone again was not so much comforting as it was a relief to not have to look over his shoulder.

Sabine felt like she had just run a marathon through wet concrete. She knew both sides of this event, in a way. She knew what those blows landed by Violet felt like to receive. She could feel the shoulder out of its socket, the massive pain nerves in the armpit reacting to a punch or a kick, the sharp stabbing pain of the broken ribs. She also knew the elation of finally striking back at an attacker, making him feel helpless for a change. Even though just a surrogate, she knew Violet felt the righteous flush of retribution fulfilled. She also knew the complete exhaustion after all is said and done. She looked around the room.

“Well, I guess we don’t have to worry about Frickel again. We owe the Sargent Major a great deal, and Violet and Veronica too. We also know why he said to dispose of this when we were done.” Sabine’s voice sounded almost as worn as Violet’s did on the disk.

Sabine bowed her head in silent prayer to the avenging angels. She was glad she did not have to do it this time. She wanted that part of her past boxed up, hidden from the world, never to see the light of day again as it almost did in the armory. She preferred to keep ‘Mara’ a secret part of her. It is usually meant trouble when she let her out.

When all three returned to the hospital that evening, the ICU ward was a flurry of activity. It seems a major conference among the doctors treating Paige had convened. Everyone was there, from Neurology to the trauma surgeons to ophthalmology. All were impressed with her recovery rate and were now going to start the process of bringing her out from her induced coma. This would not be a quick process, but a steady one. They felt she should be able to react to input sometime the next morning. The news was great, except….

Now they had to figure out what to tell her, when to tell her and who to tell her what. By everyone’s estimation, she was working in the armory room, sudden pain, and now she was waking up. This would be a rough stretch.

The next several days were not as bad as was anticipated. It was better and it was worse.

It was better because once she was awake, Paige seemed to be all there. There was no evidence of neurological damage or impairment. She was able to move all her extremities, the main pain would be the ribs and the abdominal muscles from the surgery removing her spleen. The Hyphema had cleared up quite nicely and soon all evidence would be gone.

It was worse. Having someone legitimately try to kill you has a negative effect on most people. It did on Paige, especially since it was another unit member. She was scared now. Not just of Frickel. She had been told he was hundreds of miles away with no ability to come hurt her again. It was more the unnamed ability for someone to get that close to her with murderous intent. Paige just knew she would never be able to sit with her back towards an opening or a door ever again.

Henrik was the stoic rock. He would be there to protect her. He tried to not show how much her fear and crying hurt him. He was determined to be strong for her. He wouldn’t leave the room unless one of the other was there so she would feel safe. Sabine tried to tell him she would get past this point but it would take time. He still would only leave when Sabine or Andrea were there. She needed him to be there. He knew she felt safer with him around.

Andrea would sit in the bed with her and hold her. They would watch silly things on Andrea’s tablet as she tried to distract Paige. The problem with Andrea there. When one would cry, it would set the other one off. Bit by bit, they brought her up to speed on what was going on. They omitted telling her anything else about Frickel and said nothing about Veronica and Violet. Those would be conversations held far from any prying eyes.

Sabine was there most often during the start of the physical therapy portions. She was the interpreter, and took notes on what she needed to do after Paige was released. She also started talking with Paige about recovering from the fear and paranoia of being attacked.

It was considered a miracle when Paige was released in not much more than two weeks from when she was flown into the trauma center. She was being sent home for recovery. She would have follow-ups but the main thing she needed time for was the ribs and the bruising of her lung. Hospitals don’t like to keep patients in them very long any more. She was stable and sent home. Sabine being the medical provider for the unit immediately put her on two weeks quarters with a daily physical therapy regimen she was to follow. At the end of the weekend, she was driven in to meet with the Sargent Major and the Commander before starting her convalescent leave/quarters.

When the alter ego has a name it is usually due to the extreme change in a person. The mind MUST separate the two beings inside the same body. They do not coexist. It one or the other. That doesn't mean that either is "bad", but so far opposite of what the other is. Dr. Jekyll Mr Hide kind of thing.
I have know one person like that, both personalities were easy to get along with, but one was not to be pissed off!

Thanks for the addition. Looking forward to MOAR!

Mara...This is an unexpected twist to say the least.
Thank you!
Well yes it was but you're not really surprised are you? I think he just drops stuff like that in to see if we're awake; he is after all, a sly fox.

Ditto on the thanks; gonna have to watch out for Mara (and her cousins?)

Paige needs to be informed of Frickel's permanent injuries so she does not have to worry about the POS ever again.

Thanks CCG for the chapters.

I'm not crazy, four out of five of my basic personalities are stable and Bruno doesn't come around very often. I have no memories of those times, but have heard of some interesting stories of his actions, usually just a few seconds long.
