Great writing, taking clothes prevents ID when the body parts are dragged off. Or they are planning to dress up some dummies/bodies.
Was told by an aircraft accident investigator: "A guide in the rockies said: If the meats' warm it was a cat. If it's cold it was a bear. A skull was found miles away from the accident site.". Was also told that mice will eat the bones for the minerals in them.

Jesse moved around the outside to the back door to the cabin. He expected one of two things. Either the last of the people would come out this way, or they would stay inside and look towards the direction of the gunfire waiting for the assault. If they came out, he was ready. If they didn’t, he had keys. After thirty seconds, he figured he needed to go in. He didn’t want a warning to escape and clue in the other guys. He slung his rifle. With the keys in one hand and his pistol in the other, he gained entry to the back of the cabin.

He could hear at least two people talking in the front room. There were fragments of ‘who’s here’ and ‘what are we going to do’ but not a lot of useful forceful effort. This pleased him. Their indecision yielded the initiative to him again. He holstered the pistol and brought his rifle back around. He slowly walked up the hall, checking the rooms as he went. When he looked around the corner to the main room, he could see the open door and the bodies on the floor. The two guys he heard talking were at the side of the room, trying to peek outside, looking for movement. Jesse slowly raised his rifle. Three rounds each between their shoulder blades made them drop their rifles and collapse to the floor. The cabin was clear.

Little behind the power curve but catching up----Good story in these times. Stuck in the house, CV19, nowhere to go, RV sitting in yard as a yard ornament is not doing my relaxing any good. As always good story, Moar

Zed was loping along towards the cabin when he saw Jesse step out the front door of the cabin and wave to him. Zed started walking. No real need to hurry and they still had a lot to do.

“Jesse, you get the truck, I’ll start with these guys.” Zed gestured at the bodies around the helicopter.

Jesse was relieved to see his friend was alright. He started off down the trail they had come in on. He knew he would rather do this than part 2. Besides, Zed didn’t seem to mind it. Damn! Zed was starting to scare him.

Zed removed the body from the pilot’s seat of the aircraft. Once again the gut hook came into play. Moments later, the body as well as the second one at the helicopter was naked. Zed took a few moments rummaging through their pockets. He took the loose change and keys he found and tossed them into the aircraft's intakes where they couldn’t be seen. If someone was able to get the bird to start without checking deep in the intakes, the metal FOD should spoil their day.

Some more knife work and he headed over to the cabin trail. He figured he could get most of the preliminary work done while Jesse got the truck and tools for part two.

As Jesse approached the cabin in his truck, he could see Zed had been busy. The naked bodies were stacked like wood on the trail and by the helicopter. He had even gone into the cabin and brought the ones inside out and stripped them. There was a small stack of white plastic bags to one side, along with several rifles and pistols. Standing next to them was Zed, a steaming cup of what he assumed was coffee in his hands, his face showing not a care in the world. Jesse thought it was just the simple pleasure of a job well done, no different than when you finished mowing the grass. Damn, Zed was REALLY starting to scare him.
“Did you make enough for me?” Jesse called out as he exited the truck.

“Of course. There’s almost a full pot in on the counter. Actually they made it.” He waved at the stack with his cup. “And it would be a shame to let it go to waste. It’s not like they are going to drink it.” Zed took another sip from the cup and then continued. “Tell you what. Why don’t you scavenge the cabin for radios, ammo and other intel stuff and see if there’s sandwich stuff or something we can eat on the drive down to mane camp. I’ll take care of things here. It won’t take long and I know it would probably bother you.”

Jesse could see his friend was legitimately concerned for his feelings in this issue. In truth, he was relieved at the suggestion. The whole thing made him squeamish and uncomfortable. Each to their own strengths.

“Not a problem. I already ran the cord for the inverter through the split window to the back, along with the extension cord.” Jesse grabbed the pair of duffle bags they brought to package up stuff to take with them and moved inside the cabin.

Zed set about in a methodical manner. He unfolded the tarp in the bed of the truck, weighting it down with some of the T-posts they brought with them. Pulling the extension cord with him, he approached the stack of bodies, a long plastic case in his hands.

He knew his friend would be all kinds of upset to do what needs be done, and Zed admitted he didn’t like having to do it, but to him, it was just a mechanical action. One he had done on other configurations countless times. He opened the plastic case lid revealing the over-sized heavy duty reciprocating saw and went to work.

Thirty minutes later, Jesse came out of the cabin with two mostly full duffle bags and a third bag containing sandwiches and a thermos of coffee. The truck had been moved around and was now backed up near the cabin. Zed was sitting in the bed of the truck on the tool box mounted there. A large mound was covered with a tarp was at his feet.

“We good, Zed?”

“Yup, all accounted for and collected. What did you find for breakfast?”

“Fried ham, egg, and cheese sandwiches. And more coffee.”

“You heard anything from the other guys?”

"Not since they acknowledged my warning. I figured we would give a warno when we were inbound, but we already decided to not work the radios too hard unless there were problems. COMSEC, you know.”

“Yeah, I remember, but I’d feel better if I knew they were successful and just waiting for our arrival to finish the other stuff.”

“Well, if you’re ready, we can head that way.” Jesse went to the driver’s seat. Zed spoke before he got in.”

“Remember, not too fast and we will need to slow down and maneuver some to take care of the torsos.”

Jesse shuddered a little. He hadn’t looked too close to the bed of the truck, but the plan was for Zed to take the various parts of the disassembled bodies and randomly fling an arm or leg part into the brush, ravines and woods as they drove. This would scatter the remains and evidence over a vast area and make each piece and part likely to be carried off and further destroyed and dispersed. Zed had skinned and broken down more animals than most butchers and evidently made short work of the process. It still didn’t change the fact his friend still scared him some.

"...over-sized heavy duty reciprocating saw..." "...take care of the torsos..." Gee, Medieval!

But while my so-called "sensibilities" might recoil from "what needs to be done", I must confess that I predict the days are coming when I, and frankly all of us, might survive the approaching hell only because we have been blessed to have a "Zed" within our circle of supporters and allies.

Again, CCG excels with his FICTION as physical, mental, emotional, and yes, even spiritual preparation. Thank you CCG.

Last week, I spoke with a Marine Vet. and former CHP Officer and was given an insight into this whole "defense of freedom" thing. He was the one who brought up the subject of "deadly force" to defend life and liberty. He looked me in the eye with absolute sincerity and even a little ferocity and said: "I have been in battle in the service and as a sworn Peace Officer. I know what it is to look an enemy in the eye and kill him. I can do that if I have to. Can you?"

I'm curious long term how the helicopter is removed. It is no longer part of the fight, but it's an unsightly feature in a natural setting.
In a PAWs setting the radio and batteries could be useful. Nuts, bolts, clamps, hoses, oil and fuel could come in handy. Some electrical components could be melted for gold and wires for copper. The blades and mast head if not to damaged might transition to a potentially dangerous wind turbine. Not sure if the engine and associated parts could be easily repurposed. If the bird was readily accessible there might not be much left but a shell.

The room was poorly lit. She had no real idea what she would find when she went through the door, but she figured her entrance would be more of a surprise to whoever was in there than what she would find would surprise her. She knew warfare was about momentum. With only three people including herself, she couldn’t slow down or surrender a single iota of the momentum they had gained.

She wanted to make sure the two she dropped in the door stayed down. She also needed to get past them to go inside. Her solution was sure to be unexpected. She literally ran on top of their bodies to clear the doorway.

She was trying to keep balanced and nimble., so she had the rifle in her left hand and the pistol in her right. If she had to engage immediately when she got inside, she wanted the pistol for its speed. As soon as she cleared the doorway she darted to the left. Her eyes adjusted quickly as she scanned the room.

The first thing she saw was at least a dozen mostly nude bodies on mattresses along one wall. They seemed shocked at her arrival and appearance. Heidi heard some sounds from the two guys on the floor. Without taking her eyes from the bodies in the room, she extended her arm and sprinkled a half a dozen pistol rounds between the two. Her radio crackled in her ear with Emilia’s voice.

“Guys, main door, three assholes with rifles headed towards flagpole!”

“Everybody stay against the wall and don’t move.” Heidi spun around, the pistol going back in the holster and bringing her rifle to bear as she searched for the targets Emilia warned of.

After the three guys out in the open were stopped, Heidi turned her attention back inside. As she turned, she let the rifle hang from its sling. Drawing her pistol again, she looked closer at the room. What she saw enraged her. This was right out of a textbook for human trafficking. All young, all basically naked, and all female. Correction, all but one. There was one guy. He was also almost nude. She remembered reading the naked thing was a control element. It made them feel venerable, it made it hard to conceal anything, ether to defend or attack, or steal anything. Out here in the woods with winter on its way and the weather turning cold, it also severely put a damper on the idea of running away. They didn’t even have shoes or socks, so unprotected feet unaccustomed to going barefoot wouldn’t work well running over broken terrain as well.

Her brain started working on the puzzle of the one guy. Maybe he was kept for the really heavy stuff? He was dressed like they were, with only a pair of briefs, just like all the women and girls only had a pair of panties. Why have the guy here? Why not more guys if they needed heavy stuff moved? Was it to keep the females on edge? The guard in the room took care of that part. Why was he here?

“Everybody, get over to the side of the room and squat down as low as you can against the wall!” Heidi used her NCO voice. Nobody moved. “NOW”. That did it, crying and shuffling, they moved where she indicated. All that is except the guy.

“I can help. Let me fight these ****ers! They killed my wife!” His face was lit up with fury and rage. Heidi figured that part makes sense. The part that didn’t make sense was the fear and revulsion on the faces of the others against the wall when he spoke and stepped forward. Then her brain had it. Pricehoffer!

Heidi brought up her pistol. The guy’s eyes widened as he tried to stop the forward motion he had started. She put half a dozen rounds in his chest. The screams erupted in the room to compete with the noise of the pistol. Heidi ignored the screams as she swapped in a fresh magazine for the pistol. She scanned the crowd for an older face. Finding an older teenager or young adult she began with a question or two. Pointing down at the man she had just shot with the pistol, her first question confused them.

“He’s been here longer than anyone else, right? Right?”

A couple of the heads nodded up and down.

“Did he ever get out of line or act weird?”

A few of the youngest nodded their heads. This was enough for Heidi. She had remembered an old black and white WWII movie her husband used to love to watch. Anytime it was on and he ran across it, he would stop what he was doing and watch it till it was finished. It was about prisoners of war in a German camp. All of their attempts to escape failed. Finally the main character, played by William Holden, figured it out. The prisoner who was doing security for them in the escape attempts was actually a Nazi plant. Holden’s character said his name was probably Pricinger or Pricehaufer. This guy was a ‘captive’ who ‘helped’ the others out, and along the way, kept watch on them. It would take a real creep to do such a thing and it would leak out at the edges. The reaction of potentially arming him was enough for the others to react, even if just showing their fear. Heidi looked over the group again. There seemed to be some sort of relief among them.

“We are going to get you out. Follow my instructions. Stay curled up and quiet until I come back. More bullets are going to be flying around and I don’t want you guys to catch one.”

Heidi moved back towards the door.

“Guinea pigs are secure.” Heidi’s voice over the radio eased both Emilia’s and Doug’s concerns.

“Copy, we still have movement in the other building, but so far no one is sticking their heads out.” Emilia sounded calmer than just a few moments ago.

“Well, that sounds like my cue to poke the hornet’s nest. You want to give them something else to think about?” Heidi’s voice sounded like she was asking if they needed an extra loaf of bread at the store, not proclaiming she was going to burst into a building she had never been in and hunt down armed human traffickers.

Doug was at a loss for something he could do to draw the attention of the guys in the building. The only thing that came to mind was shooting the building. But what part? The metal back door seemed the best target. It would make them think they were getting ready to breach there. Then Heidi hits the other door. He opened up with a few rounds from the rifle at the rear door. He was sure the pounding sound echoed throughout the whole place.

At the first shot, Heidi was off and running again, the rifle slung, the pistol in hand. Across the open area quick as a scared antelope she bounded. She didn’t hear any shots headed her way as she ran. Part of her was saying to get to the side of the entryway and pie and slice the entry as she had been taught. The other part was all for not giving them time to react to what they may have seen.

She hit the open doorway without stopping or even slowing down. At a full run, she found herself in the lobby of the main administrative building. Straight ahead of her were four guys staring off to the left where she could hear the booming of heavy caliber slugs tearing through the metal door and reverberating in the open space.

Heidi unloaded on three of them, four rounds apiece until her pistol ran dry. Several of them went down, but not all of them. She started running for a display to make it harder to hit a moving target. On the run, she struggled with reloading the pistol. Something in her head told her she had been moving in the same direction too long, so she darted sideways. She was just in time. A burst of AK ripped up the area she had been heading towards. She brought the pistol to bear on the gunman and fired fast and accurately. That threat was down. She wasn’t sure how many more magazines she had, but she knew she needed to conserve them until she could reload her empties.

Holstering her pistol, she used the rifle to ensure each of the four were thoroughly dead with a round center of their chest.

“Bear, hold fire. I am sweeping the back of the building.”

The entire area was quiet after so much gunfire. Heidi crept along in the building until she was sure she had checked every inch. This building was clear. She saw signs of a lot of chaos and more sleeping areas than she thought right. Why were they not using the ranger faculty cabins? Those were set up for habitations better, but they all remained locked up when they looked from a distance, the padlocks still on most of them. The couple unlocked ones had shown no movement during the whole shooting, otherwise Emilia would have sung out over the radio. Something still doesn’t look right.

“Moving to building three, two is all clear.”

Doug watched Heidi move towards the maintenance building. She slipped along, hard to track with her size and movements. She seemed to have no issues getting in. There were no sounds from the building. Moments later, she emerged. He could see her leaning against the wall. She appeared to be hurling. After a couple of moments, she straightened up and was back on the radio.

“Clean up in aisle 5, a bad one.” She then moved out towards the cabins, moving a little slower now. Doug was worried about what she found, but couldn’t let it distract him from his mission.

Heidi was unsteady on her feet as she leaned on the side of the building. At least she remembered her training from so many years ago. If you are going to vomit, don’t do it at the crime scene or in the building. What she saw in the maintenance barn had shocked her to her core. At this point in her life, she knew it shouldn’t but this was a bit over the top.

She had seen an Iraqi torture site in Fallujah. She thought she knew what that must have been like then. She was wrong. The body was hanging from the rafters in some sort of skinning gambrel. The woman had died horribly, to what purpose, no one could tell. There were still tools and a bucket of parts under the body as well. For a few moments she stood there. She found herself looking from the body to the tools and back. When she realized she was trying to match the wounds to the tools and such, she had to leave. Quickly!

The next storage building had lots of boxes and nothing else. She didn’t waste much time in here. The goal was eliminate threats first. Next, on to the cabins.
