"Scientific research has shown that a great and fascinating -- perhaps even mysterious -- bond exists between dogs and human beings. They even understand human language.

The love story between dogs and humans goes back tens of thousands of years, the results of which can still be seen everywhere, every single day. Families going out with their dogs, which are carefully groomed, looking extremely healthy and happy. The pet is a real member of the family. His needs are as important to his owners as their own. Because of this close relationship, dogs have developed the ability to perfectly understand us.

Dogs are capable of understanding the emotions behind an expression on a human face. For example, if a dog turns its head to the left, it could be picking up that someone is angry, fearful or happy. If there is a look of surprise on a person's face, dogs tend to turn their head to the right. The heart rates of dogs also go up when they see someone who is having a bad day, say Marcello Siniscalchi, Serenella d'Ingeo and Angelo Quaranta of the University of Bari Aldo Moro in Italy. The study in Springer's journal Learning & Behavior is the latest to reveal just how connected dogs are with people. The research also provides evidence that dogs use different parts of their brains to process human emotions.
Considering these abilities, it's not so strange that we love dogs so much.

Liberal Twitter-user Danielle (@ladypalerider) has a different explanation for people's love for dogs, however. Wait. I should've written: for white people's love for our canine comrades. According to her, "white people love dogs so much because deep down they miss owning slaves. They love the owner and master dynamic, desperate for something to control."

Silly me, here I was thinking that slave owners generally treated their slaves very badly indeed. But, according to Miss Liberal, slave owners cuddled their slaves, took them for regular walks, groomed them, hugged them regularly, showered them with love, bought them all kinds of gifts, and even made sure that when they went on holiday, their slaves would be treated well. After all, that is how we dog-owners treat our dogs.

Calling Danielle's tweet "ridiculous" would be the understatement of the century.

It goes without saying that many Twitter users (rightfully) took offense to Danielle's tweet. "What about cats, gerbils, birds, snakes, horses, ducks..." @MadonnaMadsen asks, after which she says she gives Danielle "the STUPIDEST TWEET award."

The premise of the OP is a huge, steaming pile of puppy poop.

From 1865 until today...about 154 years depending upon the exact dates you select off the calendar. I would suggest to the ditz in the OP that there is not ONE white person alive today who had a solitary thing to do with slavery. People of any race simply don't live that long.

This claim has no sociological or biological evidence to back that up.

The reason why White people are so animal friendly with both the domestication and wildlife than any other race is due to a number of factors..........

1) Whites collectively with a higher mean IQ but just as important environmentally shaped to exercise dependency in trust, care and cooperation with each other led to advanced 1st world societies..........this same trust, care and cooperation by Whites is often extended to other being such as wildlife preservation and an affection with pets. No other race (sans some recent actions by Orientals) has exercise such awareness of the respect and value of other wild life to the level and frequency that Whites have done. Even indigenous societies that depend on biosphere balance don't have the awareness and care to the level Whites do. Unfortunately our tendency to extend altruistic behavior toward other races doesn't reciprocate the level of care, trust and loyalty that animals do which Whites will do for each other to make societies work.

2) Human settlements have a real value in the care and feedback that domesticated pets offer for humans early on cats saved stored food from rodents eating that to dogs helping with farming tasks of other domesticated animals.

Granted there is history of Whites like buffalo shooting in the wild west........but our better survival nature of altruistic care has won out in the end as far as most animals go............and our relationship with dogs is an extension of that.

Besides today machines do what slave did............we have no use for slaves or obsolete farm equipment............

Liberals and non-Whites are clueless about White sociological progress and anthropology.....

But then science be racist!

The human-dog relationship has been around for a verrrry long time, far predating any modern culture or civilization.
The idea that American whites like dogs due to the 250 years of slavery in the South is so illogical that it is incomprehensible.

I'll bet that, in addition to being a liberal, the tweeter is also a PETAfile or vegan or some such.
She is trying very hard to use a supposedly modern issue (slavery) to make a point about animal cruelty.

Some moslems still keep slaves, and slavery is ok with the koran. Maybe they would sell us a few slaves. I don't think they would be a good investment, though. More mouths to feed.

Apparently my "slaves" believe they're the masters in our relationship then because the hairy miscreants insist upon sleeping beside me in bed, bark to disturb my sleep if they need to go outside (how rude), run around in circles annoyingly when they're wanting me to feed them, prance to the door and look at me with big soulful eyes to demand a walk, and they insist upon snuggling beside me and in my lap whenever I sit down! Oh, and in my free time I can brush their flowing white coat and make sure they don't have any tear stains. Who's the slave??? Surely it isn't my dogs!

This Danielle moron is just one more liberal mental case walking around loose and unattended. Where's the guys in the white coats with the nets when we need them??

Our baby is so spoiled that he thinks he is the master and we are his slaves. He absolutely will not eat his breakfast every morning, unless I finger feed it to him. Lets me know when it's his treat time, and he loves taking DH for a walk each night before bed.

I can hardly wait til 4 pm to bring him home from the hospital, after receiving treatment for heart worms. His heart worm meds stopped working, and we didn't know it, until he was checked a couple of months ago. He has ice cream treats waiting for him when he gets home!

As useful as our dogs can be working cows and guarding the place, I think we spend a lot more time being their servants! There are days I feel like the dogs' butler... let them out, let them in, leg them out... over and over. Then there is cooking their food, making up treats to hide Red's pain meds in, fluffing up their blankets (just do they can scratch thrm up into a bsll again)....

It's probably questionable who the actual slave/servant is!
