When I was in grade school, our teacher arranged for a man to come and talk about his experiences during WW2.
He said that the Germans came and rounded up all the Jews in his village. He was a young child at the time. They were each allowed to take 1 suitcase of belongings. He was with his mother and father.
They were taken to a place where a ditch was dug. Several would line up and then the Germans would shoot them in the back of the head and there bodies would fall into the pit.
He was not shot and laid for 2 days in the pit with his father on top of him. The Germans shoveled lime on the bodies after they finished shooting the people.
The people in line could hear the gun shots and when they got closer, they could see the pit with all the bodies in it.
When his turn came, his father put his hand on his shoulder and then when his father was shot he pushed his son in front of him and his father landed on him.
I asked him how many Germans there were. He said not many, maybe 4 or 5.
I asked him what did the people do. He said nothing. Just stood in line and waited for there turn.
I asked him why did the people in line not charge and attack the Germans, sure, I said, some would die but most would be able to escape. Many might be injured, but a hundred people could overwhelm the few Germans. He said he did not know why the people did nothing, maybe they just could not believe what was happening and did not know what to do.
He also said it could happen here. I shook my head no, and said it could never happen here. He said of course it can, it can happen anywhere.
I vowed never just to stand in line and wait my turn to be murdered. I also did not believe it could ever happen here.
I was wrong about it never happening here. I hope I am not wrong about standing in line and waiting to be murdered because I could not believe it was happening, and did not know what to do.
The people in Orlando, also could not believe it was happening, they ran and hid. It worked out ok for some, but not for many. Many of the Jews, ran and hid. It also worked out ok for some, but not most.
I hope that if I am ever in these circumstances, that I attack, fight, and get others to join me. Sure maybe I will be dead, or injured, but at least I fought back and maybe decreased the number of dead.
I hope all of you will band together and fight and attack if your caught up in something like this. This was only one man and he killed 49 people and injured 53. Just one man.
Right now we are being attacked from within and outside our boarders. Maybe you all will hide and run and hope you will not be murdered. Maybe it will work out fine for a few of you. It did not work out fine for most of the Jews.
Yes I know that some fought back, but many just stood and took it. Will we learn from these lessons or will we repeat their mistakes.
Many of the Jihadists men are cowards, many are not. I think at this time, they are expecting Americans to cower and run, and not expecting someone to fight back. Wouldn't it be something it everyone turned and attacked the attackers instead of running for cover. There are objects that can be used as weapons all around you, even if you do not have a gun.
It takes time for first responders to get there and help you. Really, you are the first responder and you need to make your actions count.
Yes, wouldn't it be something, if the Jews attacked the Germans right on the spot. It would have changed everything. Yes, they would have changed tactics and yes, things would be different, still many dead.
All of us need to stand up and say no more!
The Jewish man that talked to us in grade school all the years ago was taken in by some kind Germans and survived to tell his tale. He was just a child and had no say in what happened. We are not children and will have to decide what we are going to do, cower or fight.
