Be careful of a selenium overdose.

Not only baby pigs can get White Muscle Disease; I feed wheat in with my regular ground feed to the sheep and other livestock to prevent it, as our area is very low in selenium. As I recall, the wheat provides selenium and Vitamin E, both necessary to prevent WMDisease.

Thank you Rosepath! You reminded me of another factoid. The USSR, after WWII IIRC, very purposely wanted and got much of our high selenium wheat from the high-selenium wheat growing areas - because they understood the value of plant-based selenium to human health and intelligence !

AGAIN, STAY AWAY FROM ELEMENTAL SELENIUM SUPPLEMENTS and you won't have to worry about selenium toxicity.

DO OBTAIN SELENIUM FROM PLANT SOURCES.

Who may need supplemental selenium?

In the United States, most cases of selenium depletion or deficiency are associated with severe gastrointestinal problems, such as Crohn's disease, or with surgical removal of part of the stomach. These and other gastrointestinal disorders can impair selenium absorption [26-28]. People with acute severe illness who develop inflammation and widespread infection often have decreased levels of selenium in their blood [29]. Physicians will evaluate individuals who have gastrointestinal disease or severe infection for depleted blood levels of selenium to determine the need for supplementation.

People with iodine deficiency may also benefit from selenium supplementation. Iodine deficiency is rare in the United States, but is still common in developing countries where access to iodine is limited [30]. Researchers believe that selenium deficiency may worsen the effects of iodine deficiency on thyroid function, and that adequate selenium nutritional status may help protect against some of the neurological effects of iodine deficiency [6,7]. Researchers involved in the Supplementation en Vitamines et Mineraux AntioXydants (SU.VI.MAX) study in France, which was designed to assess the effect of vitamin and mineral supplements on chronic disease risk, evaluated the relationship between goiter and selenium in a subset of this research population. Their findings suggest that selenium supplements may be protective against goiter, which refers to enlargement of the thyroid gland [31].
Selenium and Cancer

Observational studies indicate that death from cancer, including lung, colorectal, and prostate cancers, is lower among people with higher blood levels or intake of selenium [36-42]. In addition, the incidence of nonmelanoma skin cancer is significantly higher in areas of the United States with low soil selenium content [39]. The effect of selenium supplementation on the recurrence of different types of skin cancers was studied in seven dermatology clinics in the United States from 1983 through the early 1990s. Taking a daily supplement containing 200 mcg of selenium did not affect recurrence of skin cancer, but significantly reduced the occurrence and death from total cancers. The incidence of prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, and lung cancer was notably lower in the group given selenium supplements [43]. Research suggests that selenium might affect cancer risk in two ways. As an anti-oxidant, selenium can help protect the body from damaging effects of free radicals. Selenium may also prevent or slow tumor growth. Certain breakdown products of selenium are believed to prevent tumor growth by enhancing immune cell activity and suppressing development of blood vessels to the tumor.

Researchers continue to investigate the relationship between selenium and HIV/AIDS, including the effect of selenium levels on disease progression and mortality. There is insufficient evidence to routinely recommended selenium supplements for individuals with HIV/AIDS, but physicians may prescribe such supplements as part of an overall treatment plan. It is also important for HIV-positive individuals to consume recommended amounts of selenium in their diet.

Let's have a control group of at least 60 tested, proven, Ebola-infected individuals, preferably 30 men and 30 women because Ebola does seem to have a gender bias, to test these methods on. Treat 15 of the men and 15 of the women with these methods and treat the others as they would normally be handled by traditional medicine in such a situation.

The results should prove the efficacy (or not) of both forms of treatment. And whether there is a gender bias in the outcomes as well.

Any volunteers?

If you found out you have Ebola, and you had full control over your method of treatment, knowing that under normal "West Africa" circumstances (no real treatment just keep you as comfortable as possible) you have about a 30% chance of surviving, and with the normal "treatment" so far provided to the 9 Ebola patients that have been cared for in the US (often involving Brantly's plasma), we have had 1 death...Thomas Duncan...(who did NOT get Brantly's plasma due to blood type mismatch) so we are 1 for 9 so far....an 88.8% survival rate...using current treatment methods.

Are you confident enough in the Selenium approach to choose that route instead?

why does it have to be 'instead'? why can't one use BOTH methods? using supplements doesn't require anyone to turn down other treatments as far as i'm aware. the thing is, when more mainstream treatments are no longer available due to the number of patients then supplements may be all we have left...better stock up NOW while you still can.

The ebola virus is highly leathal but it does not wear kevlar, It is a protein enveloped virus as is the flu.

^ Wildcrafted oregano oil is a powerfull natural antiviral. Oregano directly attacks the viruse's protein shell, tearing it to shreds,
permanently deactivating it.
^ Elderberry extract 1:1 is possably the most potent natural antiviral there is. Elderrberry extract stops the virus from replicating
and also interferes with it's abillety to penetrate the cell wall.
^Serrapeptase is a systemic enzyme (not digestive) that will disolve the protein coating of the virus pemanently deactivating it.
Serrapeptase is moderatly expensive, but what is your life worth?

If you're already taking a multivitamin, preferably an organic one, you may already be getting more than the daily requirement for selenium.

The one I take, Garden of Life's Vitamin Code for Men, gives me 179% of the daily
requirement.

In late november after the elections the msm panic agenda will be ramped up.
When the fear factor kicks in an industrial streangth fashion people will be desperate
to snap up anything that is even remotely belived to have antiviral properties.
It would be a good idea to aquire the things you need now before they become
vastly more expensive or totally unavailable.

Also, there is a machine called the Xenex Germ-Zapping Robot that uses xenon-generated UV light to kill viruses. It would quickly destroy the Ebola virus. 250 hospitals have the device already.
