Intel chief calls Trump to disavow leaks
Published January 12, 2017 FoxNews.com

The nation's top intel chief called President-elect Donald Trump Wednesday to personally deny leaking to the media a dubious dossier of allegations about sensitive information the Russians supposedly had about him.

Trump confirmed Thursday that Director of National Intelligence James Clapper spoke to him by phone, apparently sometime after a press conference in which Trump lashed out at media outlets, including Buzzfeed and CNN, that ran with the story and speculated it was leaked by federal officials.

"James Clapper called me yesterday to denounce the false and fictitious report that was illegally circulated," Trump tweeted. "Made up, phony facts.Too bad!"

On Wednesday, Clapper released a rare statement addressing rising tensions between spy agency chiefs and Trump, who believes the intel community has become politicized and is working to undermine him. He also acknowledged contacting Trump directly to express "profound dismay" about the leaks to CNN and Buzzfeed — the latter of which published the unverified allegations in full.

"I emphasized that this document is not a U.S. Intelligence Community product and that I do not believe the leaks came from within the IC," Clapper said. "The IC has not made any judgment that the information in this document is reliable, and we did not rely upon it in any way for our conclusions."

Several media outlets reported that the salacious material, originally compiled by a former British intelligence officer turned political consultant, was relayed to Trump when he was briefed on the intelligence community's evidence of Russian hacking in the 2016 election.

But Trump never received any summary of unsubstantiated allegations that Russian spies had collected compromising financial and personal information about him, a highly placed transition source told Fox News Wednesday.

The source said that intelligence officials who briefed Trump on Friday brought up the allegations verbally, but added that they were "barely mentioned in passing."

A government source told Fox News that the intelligence community wanted to give Trump a heads-up that the allegations had been widely circulating and that a lot of media outlets were sitting on the story. The source said the claims did not constitute a "central element" of Trump's briefing.

CNN initially reported that Trump and President Obama were presented with a two-page summary that detailed the allegations. The report said the summary was attached to a broader report about Russian operatives' activities during the 2016 election.

At the Wednesday press conference, Trump said that he had learned details of the allegations "outside of the meeting" with intelligence officials.

"It's all fake news. It's phony stuff. It didn't happen," Trump said, later adding. "But I read what was released and I think it's a disgrace. I think it's an absolute disgrace."

Fox News' John Roberts and Catherine Herridge contributed to this report.

Makes sense. Then the propaganda machine can report the conversation as they see fit. It was a setup. Don't accept a call from Clapper. Oh, doesn't Clapper work for the same guy that owns the IRS?

It is unconscionable to see the nation's intelligence organizations so politicized.

They all need to be cleaned out with a firehose to remove Obama-engendered rot.

More than likely, the intelligence community is thinking: "us or him"...

Only problem is that Donald IS egotistical enough to have CRASHED HARD into a honeypot. And since he doesn't drink or recreate with chems it'd have to be an ego approach.

Which wouldn't be much of a challenge for SVR....that comes EARLY in their play book, or so I'm reliably informed. (EGO approach is SO much cheaper than drugs etc....)

Never saw the press go after Obama like this. Trump needs to re-think how press conferences are held.

Nah... the shenanigans these morons are pulling are more educational in their way than the actual content of Trump's answers, especially for some of the low -information crowd. Trump can handle this easily, and the presstitutes will fall in line... the one thing they just can't stand is to be irrelevant or excluded. How President Trump!,

Classic misdirection, lawyer-speak and a non-denial, denial.

Just the response one would expect from the head of a rouge intelligence agency.

Are you sure about that?
Clapper's out of line. It's not up to Trump to disavow jack squat about this fake news. He is not beholden to anyone to run around disavowing other's unfounded rumors and falsified reportage. I don't expect that from ANYBODY. What a stupid bag of dicks.

Here's a way to illustrate the absurdity. Imagine that topics to be "disavowed" are changed a bit: "We have information that you are the last alien survivor of the Roswell crash. We call on you to disavow that information. We also have information that you are a "Boy from Brazil" and used to read German fairy tales at Hitler's knee, so we'll need that disavowed too. And just fast-track the same for your involvement with Richard Gere and hamsters."

Are you kidding? He wouldn't even go out with a woman during his dating years without her going to a doctor to be determined to be free of disease! Talk about vetting!

Maybe I misunderstand dc org chart, but last time I checked the director of nat'l intelligence (how oxymoronic is that?) reported to POTUS and not vice versa.

And herein lies over 99% of our problem.

People in dc have no understanding of who is supposed to report to whom.

This asshat clapper is supposed to follow instructions from POTUS not give them to POTUS.

Its all completely inverted.

That is why this smear and the smearers lack credibility.
The politicized and out of control Intelligence Community, who seem to have screwed or tried to screw, both Republicans and Democrats needs to be investigated by a Prosecutor.
High Crimes clearly have been committed, and some Federal Employees need to go to jail.

Mr. Clapper is a purgerer.
His words cannot be trusted or relied on.
SS

And that's it in a nutshell. Clapper has proven by his actions the caliber of his character. Generally speaking, the entire organization follows the lead of the guy at the top. There are exceptions but IMHO, neither Clapper, the FBI or the CIA is to be trusted until a thorough draining and cleaning can be done. Too much filth from that muslime floating around.

Hey guys, confirmation bias seems to have set in here as well as a LOT of other places. Clapper did not call to ASK Trump to disavow, but to TELL him it wasn't THEM on the meeting leaks.

Or maybe I can't read anymore but that was what *i* GOT out of the article.

Yeah, Crapper called to "sort of" say that his agency peeps did not leak the fact info, but used weasel words so IMHO he knows his peeps did indeed leak it.

Hit me with exact quotes from the op that led you to this conclusion???

The following was the most poignant to me and it seemingly contradicts your take away

"James Clapper called me yesterday to denounce the false and fictitious report that was illegally circulated," Trump tweeted. "Made up, phony facts.Too bad!"

Yes, Clapper serves at the pleasure of the president.
So figure Clapper to be kicked out the front door at Langley on January 20th.
More likely I'd expect a wholesale bloodletting from all the alphabet agencies after President Trump takes power. One intel agency that I've not heard ANY mention of is DIA-the Defense Intelligence Agency out at Bolling AFB in DC. They and the NRO (National Reconnaisance Agency) seem to be out of the muck raking CIA and NSA are going though. So Trump has good intelligence assets available so he could gut CIA and NSA and rebuild them at his leisure.

Can the president fire him? I am not positive about the power of his position.

Which directly, unparsed said Clapper was denouncing the report.

He's demanding Trump affirm he had no knowledge of the fact he was about to get rotten egg on his face after getting pulled into the mole hunt that happened publicly.

So you believe clapper's account of peegate and the harmful dossier and not Trump's?

Does that put you in the 17% that implicitly trust the intel community?

Behold, I am coming soon.
Clapper: Mr. President Elect? Clapper here.

Trump: Yes, sir.

Clapper: Our thorough investigation indicates that there were no leaks of our meetings, but that the Russians hacked our meetings.

Yep, and the media has been caught time and time and time again splashing unconfirmed and outright made-up-of-whole-cloth stories. Piss-Gate is one in a long series of CNN, NBC, etc. cluster****s.

Clapper is lying. Clapper has lied at every testimony he's given. In any other administration he would have been prosecuted for perjury and fired. Clapper lies to subordinates, the President, the Cabinet, Congress, the mailman, the checkout girl, the cop who pulled him over, the Rotary Club, the kid who rides the short bus, his mechanic, his lawyer, his accountant, his wife, his family, his kids, and his dog. He lies to himself. That is who he is, that is what he does.
