Disaster Cat
HI - with all the bad and breaking news I thought I would post some good news - without everyone at this forum this book would never have been written.

Thanks to the 40 plus single-spaced pages of questions from all of you (and others) about barn cats, along with the late editions of great photos from Summertyme and others - 15 years after I tried to publish with Story Book Press (and was rejected because "there is no need for such a book" Coming soon from The Real Saga Press: The Happy Barn Cat Book.

I will update this thread or post a new one when pre-orders can happen, our publisher is also putting out my husband's fiction and non-fiction as well as the books we wrote together.

I was so delighted to see this today - a great birthday present!

How neat! Will it be on Amazon also for my kindle?

I believe so, I am 99 percent sure our publisher is doing that; there will be hard copies as well - I think it is both e-books and print on demand.

Like a lot of this sort of book a good one to get on Kindle first and then get a hard copy of you to want it for your preps; the original book was aimed at Small Holders and Farmers but was expanded somewhat for that and a more general audience when the publisher accepted it.

Story Book Press is aimed at Small Holders and their pamphlets have word limits - this will have a lot of photos and illustrations in it, a lot of them done by our publisher and the in-house illustrator but some photos are my own and/or Summertyme and other contributors.

The cover photo is Maudie who I used to have listed as Professor of Barn Cat Emeritus on the old Barn Cat Pages website - Blind in one eye she hunted better than just about any cat we ever had (she once lined up rat in a row like trophies) and taught generations of orphaned kittens how to hunt (as well as her one litter).

She's on a hay bail in front of the house and it is one of the best photos I think I ever took.

Hello Melodi,

Congratulations on your book -:chg:

I'd love to purchase a copy as I've had numerous barn cats over the years on my farm. What a great book for us farm people!

And Happy Birthday to you!:hpbd:

Thanks Chance! The original book title was: The Happy Barn Cat: Farmers Friend and Natural Pest Control but my publisher thought to change it for a more general audience but its original aim was exactly people in your situation.

I will post a link as soon as it can be pre-ordered; I think it will be sometime early next year like Jan - March time table.

Have you considered offering the book through animal shelters? I think the shelter in my area would enjoy it. We have lots of barn cat people around here. Put me down for a hard copy when it is time. Congrats and have a happy BD.

I believe that is exactly what my publisher has in mind, along with rural feed stores, vet's offices etc; I'm not self-publishing so while I can help with personal advertising the marketing is up to the publisher.

But she really wanted to focus on the cat rescue angle which I am perfectly happy with, in the 15 years since I wrote the original text huge strides have been made (starting in Texas and now in Ireland too) in helping rehome (and train) urban ferals in unsafe situations be Trapped, Neutered and Released but on farms and buildings that need natural pest/rodent control rather than back on city streets.

Toes the Cat giving this book his thumbs up...

I love Toes! Please pm me if you are willing to let my publisher use this lovely photo as an example of Polydatle cats! She is still getting the photos together I will need your mundane e-mail address so she can send you a permission form. You can either send a direct copy of the photo to her (maybe better) or I can try to copy from here.
