Wish I knew. Everywhere I click peeps are posting about the amazing colors.

Electrical service lines and transformers popping and crackling as they fail?

We still have power over here in the Houston part of Katy...for the time being.

Sassy.... could it be transformers going in the distance. In Andrew, the sky was lit up blue, green and yellow from the transformers blowing.

Guessing SOMEONE is messing with the storm,
perhaps trying to lessen it via dumping some chemicals or whatnot into it?

WE do so NEED our refineries, just now...

No other possibilities come to mind.

I'll try but it's going to be tough. It just flashes in seconds.

The last one was purple. I have never seen anything like this.

No it's not transformers. It's coming from way way up in the sky.

I'm in Katy too. Northern lights is probably the best description.

Sassy... what type camera do you have? Many digitals have an "extended time" option. If you can put it on a tripod, or sandbag to stabilize it and take a 5-10 second shot, you may catch some amazing effects.

Edited to add: I've read these storms carry incredible electrical energy. Maybe that's what you're seeing? (sort of what we used to call "heat lightning", which is just cloud to cloud lightning, or lightning from a storm too far away to see?)

Those are transformers blowing all over your area...happens during earthquakes out here and Santa Ana Winds...I mean out here in Southern California where I'm from, not from Belleville, Illinois, where I sit on my butt right this second.

There were posted on Storm2k, nothing about the cause, but many postings confirming that the skies during a hurricane are amazingly colorful.

Are these similar, Sassy?

No it's dark. They are flashes of incredible light.

mole, that slide show is amazing! Some people left their 2 dogs in a chain link fenced in yard!! I am now convinced that some people don't have the brains God gave a goose.

I think they've taken that photo off the slide show. I hope that whoever took the photo then did something for the dogs. I think that picture (which I saw before) will haunt me, perhaps more than any photo of people.
