This is absolutely the best commercial

For those that do not have broadband its about a guy buying a not so well received/appreciated gift for his wife for there anniversary and the ensuing results.

Sometimes the old saying that "its the thought that counts", just doesn't cut it.

Like the year I got a new coffee pot and a lb of French vanilla coffee from honey. I don't drink coffee and French vanilla just happens to be his favorite.

Let's see, there was the year I wanted a small cassette player to take to work and got a boom box. Then there was the year he totally missed our anniversay and forgot my birthday. Yeah, he has spent a lot of time in the dog house :LOL

However ...... Sometimes women can give less than great gifts too, ya know.......

Once gave my better half a pair of silk boxers.

Red silk boxer.

Red silk boxers with little heart all over them.

I was able to eventually convince him to wear them.

But only one time.

:shr:

However, I was delighted when he got me that nice 12 gu. pump I'd been coveting.

And last year he got me a cool little battery operated mini-drill (great for little projects, handy and light, but it'll never replace my Makita :D )...and tucked it inside a gorgeous orange leather bag that is to die for ......

Guess maybe some folks just have different expectations .....

Romantic is nice; don't get me wrong.......... But sometimes practical really does beat all ;)

Well, I got DW one of those sewing body forms for Christmas because she like to make her own clothes... well the look on her face when she opened that huge box was priceless. Needless to say it went back in the box and to the return counter post haste.

I guess I'm just too pragmatic I suppose. I give cash now! its simple and harmless... i think.

We had an interesting gifting experience today. Here's the background:

my daughter has been mostly homeschooled. My dad has been crazy about math, being an engineer. He made me hate math as a kid. The first time he saw my daughter (since a toddler) at 9 years old, he reduced her to tears, drilling her about math. The subject became taboo if he wanted to interact with us. Fast forward- she's 15, in her 5th semester in college as an English major and a very highly gifted writer. She's had AP algebra...twice (reinforcement). I continue to get asked by family if she's doing any math. Today she received a gift from my sister (electrical engineer) of 3 books- Pre-algebra, Math Doesn't Suck, and Algebra. After our collective rant was over, I got a return label from Amazon. As an English major, I think all she needs to do is know how to make change (these days for board games) and adjust a recipe. Even as a nurse, I've never had to use enough math to justify being tortured taking calculus (messing up my GPA), and barely needed any algebra. I think taking AP algebra will probably get my daughter through life just fine. Anyway, she still has to take collage math.

Heh, I would have been thrilled. I had to save and wait for a good sale to get mine. :spns:

I'm very practical-minded, myself. I like getting and giving useful things. These days, DH and I tend to get gift cards for one another (hobby store or hardware store for him, JoAnn's or fancy yarn store for me) and enjoy the resulting shopping spree. If I know he wants something specific, like a certain scroll saw, I might get him that, and vice versa. It works out well for us.
