WILSON, NC – A 25-year-old man suspected of shooting and killing a five-year-old was taken into custody on August 10th, according to police. Sources say that the suspect shot the child at point-blank range while the victim was riding his bicycle.
Cannon Hinnant is reportedly the name of the five-year-old that was shot on August 9th at a mobile home park off of Archers Road at around 5:30 p.m., which the child later died after being transported to the hospital.
Wilson police and the U.S. Marshals’ Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force were on the hunt for Darius Sessoms, which they later arrested on August 10th and subsequently charged the man for fist-degree murder.
Very few details have been released by police regarding the motive behind the crime or what relationship Sessoms had with the victim, aside from him being cited as a “neighbor” and the suspect having shot him for “riding into his neighbor’s yard” in a GoFundMe that was established to assist with funeral expenses for Cannon:
“A beautiful 5 year old baby boy riding his bicycle was shot by his neighbor point blank in Wilson NC. One minute he is enjoying his life, the next it all ends because he rode into his neighbor’s yard.”
While the suspect is in custody, there is still an ongoing investigation into the murder. Please follow Law Enforcement Today to receive updates as this case progresses.
