Black Out
March Was Another Record-Setting Month for Gun Sales

Those who think Americans will stop buying guns will be in for a rude awakening.

The number of firearm background checks conducted in the US, which serves as a rough proxy for the number of guns sold nationwide, hit record levels in March. Daniel Payne of Just The News highlighted that four million background checks were conducted “for the second time in history” and blew “past the earlier one-month record set in January.”

In March, the FBI conducted 4.7 million background checks for firearms, which was 400,000 more than January’s record-setting numbers.

Payne added some perspective to the background check numbers:
January and March are the only time in the history of the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System that gun checks have broken four million. Prior to that, the highest number of checks was in December of last year at 3.9 million.

The rising gun sales come against the backdrop of large social upheavals from last summer’s riots, Wuhan virus anxiety, and the ascendance of a Democratic trifecta in Washington. With Democrats holding the presidency and both chambers of Congress, gun control bills are being introduced left and right, which has worried law-abiding gun owners across the nation.

Payne continued providing comparative figures for the volume of background checks conducted throughout all of 2020 and in the first three months of 2021:
The FBI ran nearly 40 million background checks total last year. In the first three months of 2021, meanwhile, the bureau has processed about 12.5 million checks.

America’s time-honored tradition of bearing arms isn’t going to disappear so easily. Gun Control Inc. will undoubtedly have a fight on its hands should it try to mess with Americans’ right to bear arms.

Republicans would be wise to use this issue throughout the 2022 and 2024 election cycles as a way to fire up voters and expand their reach with first-time gun buyers. Not only because it’s good politics; but, more importantly, because it’s the right thing to do.

Why? The repubs are currently exactly in their desired role of the minority party.

On Wednesday I met a friend for lunch in the small Mississippi city of Picayune. We decided to hit local pawnshops and see what firearms they had in inventory. To our surprise, the three shops we visited had extensive inventories of ammunition. The prices were still sky high, but the ammo was there.

I'm starting to see small signs of a turnaround.

Visited my LGS this morning (Central IL). Very light firearms inventory, but was significantly higher than when I was in there about 3 weeks ago. Ammo was well stocked, but still very high priced. Talking with one of the owners, the traffic has lessened a lot, but still brisk.

Well, anecdotal - but interesting nonetheless: The small town up from us has a farmers market type setup around the town square every Saturday. Today there were the usual fruit, fresh grass-fed Longhorn Beef, local honey, vegetable sellers, and one guy set up in a pickup selling ammo. That was something I hadn't seen before. Didn't stop to peruse pricing as I didn't want to offend anyone with rude comments about gouging. He proudly displayed several signs touting .22LR, but no signs offering assurances such as "best prices in town", or "guaranteed lowest prices you've seen this week".

The small local gun shop has ammo on the shelves, but at gun show prices. 70 cents a round for 9mm training.

The retail stores, Walmart and Fleet Farm, still have empty shelves. I guess the Walmart did have a box of 28 guage yesterday.

Talked to a Fleet Farm employee a few weeks ago. He said they stopped putting ammo on the shelves when it does come in and now keep it behind the counter. People were hiding it all over the store so they or friends could pick it up later.

Went to a small local show a week ago. Guns and ammo there but prices were scary.
I did sell 2 old revolvers. I never even got them inside the building before someone asked if they were for sale and then bought both.
Only thing I bought was some 44 spl brass. I use it make 11mm shells for my old French revolver. I shorten the cases and shave the heads then load with black powder and a round ball. Fun shooter.
