GUNS/RLTD Gun show report

The 30-06 case can be used to create several other calibers.
Can't you do the same thing with for a .270? May have to trim it back a good bit, but I thought you could neck one down for the .270.

BTW have never trailed a Whitetail with my .270. They all dropped in place, even at 300 yards. Man I love that .270.

However I did have one jump when it was shot, and the thing landed on the side of a hill and slid all the way down to the bottom. So I had to drag it all the way back up. I almost wanted to shoot it again.

I had the same thing happen to me in the Ruby Mountains in Colo. I shot the deer in the saddle between two peaks. The stupid thing rolled down the wrong side of the mountain.

When I was in Wichita I went to Chisolm trail both time every year. I found all kinds of good stuff and prices weren't awful. I was big into old Smith 357s, and there were always plenty to pick from. I miss going honestly, I looked forward to it for 6 months every yr. Then a cracker barrel meal on the way home. Good times

Wife and I paid $130 for 2 tables at the Midland Texas show yesterday.....Sales were phenomenal.,,,bought home over $1000

A buddy and I went in on two tables at the Sauk Centre, MN show this weekend. First gun show I've sold at. Had a great time. Saturday morning was packed, I guess the line was a block long to get in. But by the afternoon it really dropped off. Today wasn't crowded but a pretty steady flow.

The show was cancelled last year. This year they had 25 tables less than two years ago, because there were four other shows going on in the state this weekend too.

There were two brick and mortar dealers with good sized displays. There were a lot of guns sold. The dealer set up next to us had two gals doing paper work and NICS, they didn't have any breaks! They were selling 80% lowers for $140 and moved quite a few.

There wasn't much ammo on display. No large quantities at all. 9mm and 5.56/.223 was scarce.

Both my buddy and I had some excess pistol ammo to sell, .380, 45 acp, .357 mag, 40 S&W, and some misc rifle. We priced it 80 cents a round for the target stuff, $1.20 for the .380. But not much moved on Saturday. All the talk among the sellers were that maybe we are past the peak craziness. A few passerby's said they were able to buy ammo at Scheels and Fleet Farm.

We dropped our prices to 70 cents today. I sold four cases of .357, one old codger bought two cases and I carried it out to his truck for him. Brought most of my .45 home. We didn't sell one box of .40 between us. My buddy's stepson had a case of Federal XM193 on the table for $800 but it didn't sell. He did sell a bunch of AR mags for $15.

We sold all the guns we brought except for a nice Win Model 12. I had a couple old shotguns. Buddy had an AR-10 that he tried to sell at a couple shows in 2019 for $500, it went for $1,100 about ten minutes into the show.

But everyone seemed to be having a good time except when the conversation turned to politics and gun control, a whole lot of anger there.

After leaving the show yesterday I realized most of the newer gun parts were Chinese made....wouldn’t surprise me if Biden would use tariffs to halt these imports

Tariffs? WTF man! The ChiComs don’t want Americans armed. The ChiComs now own the US government. Why would you think tariffs would be implemented to force something that both parties want stopped?

Dude, you need to start looking at the current global realpolitik. You’re way behind.

We had a thread recently about a large shipment of AR parts being smuggled into the US, it got intercepted.

One thing that helped sales is that we offered free gum balls for the kids with parent permission..,.we kinda grossed out when a Mexican child dropped his ...the mother picked from the floor and put it in her mouth

With the ghost gun talk in the news prices tend to be up. Searching will turn up some not terrible prices. From what I have been hearing the gun shows tend to have higher prices, and at the same time you can walk in and see what you are buying vs. chasing it on the net and waiting on it to ship.

Parts are all over the place but especially for 80 percent stuff tons of folks are buying parts so availability and prices vary greatly.

Two day profit for real
About a thousand

ETA: You need to set up at a show which makes your efforts worthwhile. I've exclusively sold at one organization's gunshows for the past twenty years, because the returns are so much better than all the others. My average net is about $2-3K per day for these two-day shows. I display on just one table.

Yes, although it takes more searching than it did a decade ago. There are always people in financial need, or older folks giving up shooting, or estate sales where the young heirs just want to get rid of those evil, icky guns. Conversely, there are always collectors looking for unusual or excellent-condition arms, and young people with discetionary income starting to build a collection.

Example: I bought a Colt Python from a gentleman in his 80s who had purchased the gun new. He paid $435 for it. I told him it was worth far more than that, offered him $1600 for it, and told him straight out that I could sell it for a great deal more than that. He was delighted, said he "didn't want to fool with games and haggling", and took my offer. I sold it the following day for $2250. The fellow I sold to told me, in turn, that he'd sold it a month later for almost three thousand.

“But boy I sure love my 75 year old gun. I have no ammo for it and can never get ammo again, but damn it’s a nice gun!”

I’ve heard that multiple times on TB. I always wondered why people would buy those old, off-caliber guns. Just seemed dumb to me.
Oh no. Those babies have sex appeal to them. I LOVE the old wood and the history behind them. I just stroke the wood and think back. Meanwhile, I don’t believe there is anything that doesn’t have ammo for it in that particular collection.

Get with it Dennis. Find a woman and say “Hey, wanna see my gun collection?” Works on the right woman. lol. No joke. Next, you take her to the range...

I beg to differ with the poster making $3000 with one table....sounds like you sold 15 firearms...subtract your inventory price from selling price

$2250 (selling price) minus $1600 (inventory cost) is $650 for the one transaction. Table rental is $80 for both days. Net profit on this single transaction is $570. Since table cost is now covered, all other profits need no deduction.

$3000 divided by $570 is 5.26 (call it 6) transactions, not fifteen. Three sales like this in each nine-hour day is actually small potatoes. There are neighboring vendors at these shows who do far better than I.

Happened to drive past Dallas Market Hall today. Home of the famous Market Hall Gun Show, formerly operated by the Dallas Arms Collectors Association. The Trump Slump killed it and they folded operations there in late 2019 or early 2020. It’s now operated on a smaller scale by Premier Gun Shows.
Anyway, I didn’t even bother slowing down as I saw the parking lot. Never seen that much traffic there and people were creating their own parking spots in the greenery areas. Slump seems to be over and dealers must be rejoicing.
