Here in north central NY state, we're under a winter storm warning again. Funny thing... it was supposed to start around 5 pm. Between 2 and 5, we got about 4" of snow. Promptly at 5... it quit!

It looks to me like most of it will stay north of us tonight, but it will all depend on wind direction. I'm HOPING this is our last blast!

Animals from the north are moving south. There is now an established herd of more than 100 moose in northeastern Nevada.

When Nevada big game tag applications opened at 8:00 a.m. sharp on Monday morning, the menu of offerings looked a little different than in the past. That’s because this year, the Nevada Department of Wildlife is planning its first-ever moose hunt. Before the application period closes on May 8, some 70,000 licensed resident hunters will have the chance to apply for one of up to three any-legal-weapon bull moose tags. (There could be fewer than three, as wildlife managers haven’t landed on the final figure yet, the Associated Press reports.)

NDOW investigating possible wolf sighting in Northeastern Nevada

During search efforts to confirm the sighting last week, biologists discovered tracks in the area.

First wolverines, then moose, and now possibly wolves are being seen in Nevada.

A pilot with a helicopter capture crew contracted by the Nevada Department of Wildlife spotted three suspected wolves near Merritt Mountain north of Elko during a scheduled moose-collaring project on March 17.

After relaying the observation to NDOW biologists, the department coordinated with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service on a plan to thoroughly search the area to confirm the sighting.
