Now this is the sort of stores we want to see more of when it comes to Dogs and the Police, of course in Ireland the police mandate is to keep the peace, not "prevent crime," which brings a bit of a different focus to their work

One female garda was left beaming this morning with the discovery of four gorgeous puppies.

The stolen dogs were found after gardai from Crumlin station secured a warrant to search a property.

According to the gardai, the owner of the pups is said to be delighted with their safe return.

These pictures show how a seemingly normal work day can turn fantastic pretty quickly.

Saved, to glorify God.
WOW, I AM getting OLD.
Young people now think nothing of being able to immediately read about a case as trivial as "recovered stolen puppies" HAPPENING IN A FOREIGN NATION over 10,000 miles away.
It STILL ASTOUNDS me.
But, I find that such "Depth" of available "news" stories leads to the the loss and submergence of critically significant informational news in the Avalanche and "information overload" that such technology creates.

But YES It Is a cute story, and YES I clicked on it, knowing full well that it was in Ireland, Guilty as charged.
Diversions work well on me.

I thought the story was wonderful because almost every story "out there" about police and dogs is tragic or almost tragic; this one was a happy story and it also showed the difference you get when the police are focused on keeping the peace rather than "enforcing" the law.

A friend of ours that lived with us for awhile was a former American cop and this was why ultimately he decided NOT to transfer into the Guards, which he could legally have asked to do at the time; he said that while he actually thought the Irish system was probably better in the long run, both for cops and the public; that it was so different to what he was trained to that he might "go off" in the "wrong" way for the Irish system and wasn't really to risk that.

He said American cops after a point, probably because they see the worst of human beings day after day; tend to start thinking in a "Us vs. Them" mentality and the public as "Civilians" as if they are soldiers. Their job is to fight crime and even seek it out; the Irish cop on the other hand is required to keep the peace first.

So if that means seeing that Paddy the village drunk has had one to many at the pub; he can just take Paddy's car keys and ask the Pub owner to call a cab, if that seems the best solution at the time. It also means that a police women walking into a house that smells of "Weeds" can simply excuse herself from having tea and drive off, she doesn't have to stage a raid and haul in the great-grandmother serving tea of great-grandson's pot plant in his bedroom.

Unless there is some reason to think that great-grandson has turned the garage into a giant grow house and even then, she's going to suddenly "remember an appointment" and discuss it with the office before doing much, if nothing else is going on.

Very different system, so glad they found the puppies and your right the world has totally changed...

It did the night for me in 1994 when I was typing about the eclipse with someone in London and someone in Australia at the same time - I was in California...
