Update: Watched it, and it ran 35 minutes later after the game in our CBS region ended.
Garry got very little screentime, edited to smithereens as expected. There is a Fr. Phleger extra segment at 60 Minutes site. Twitter is abuzz in the last hour the radical priest is offering a bounty ( cash to turn in warlords ).
Truthfully, this felt like an ambush interview designed to discredit Rahm in favor of Toni Preckwinkel for Mayor next time.
Rahm refused to even go on camera for 60 Minutes. Yep Stay Fetal is the name of the game now.
But I tell ya, I was there for Cubs in the World Series and CPD did a great job of crowd control.

All of the violence problems in Chicongo, and all of the other
major metro areas, has its genesis from, the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
The nation at that time decided to pander to, the African race,
and to some extent, all non-European races or people's.

In the entire world, the Earth, 95 percent of the African race are
what most would call POS ******s, controlled completely

If you look at the crime statistics by area of Chicago you can see the problem areas
... and it's an honest bet that those areas are made up of multiple generations of unmarried baby mommy's who brood multiple children by multiple different black males who never have anything to do with their kids
They are raised by either mommy or baby daddy as free range kids who run the streets and become part of the same gangs their babby mommy and baby daddy grew up in ... drawing Public Aid and being told just how Da' man has kept them down
... mommy and daddy are usually to busy getting high ... getting drunk ... etc. and frankly were raised the same way

CHICAGO — One of the most violent years in Chicago history ended with a sobering tally: 762 homicides, the most in two decades in the city and more than New York and Los Angeles combined.
The nation’s third largest city also saw 1,100 more shooting incidents last year than it did in 2015, according to data released Sunday by the Chicago Police Department. The statistics underline a story of bloodshed that has put Chicago at the center of a national dialogue about gun violence.
The numbers are staggering, even for those who followed the steady news accounts of weekends ending with dozens of shootings and monthly death tolls that hadn’t been seen in years. The increase in homicides compared to 2015, when 485 were reported, is the largest spike in 60 years.
Police and city officials have lamented the flood of illegal guns into the city, and the crime statistics appeared to support their claims: Police recovered 8,300 illegal guns in 2016, a 20 percent increase from the previous year.
Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said during a news conference Sunday that Chicago is among many U.S. cities that have seen a spike in violence, including in attacks on police. He said anger at police, including in the wake of video released that showed a white Chicago officer shooting a black teenager 16 times, has left criminals “emboldened” to violent crimes.

Track this year’s homicides in Denver, and compare the city’s homicide rate to Denver’s homicide rate in past years.
He also said it’s becoming clearer to criminals that they have little to fear from the criminal justice system.
“In Chicago, we just don’t have a deterrent to pick up a gun,” he said. “Any time a guy stealing a loaf of bread spends more time pre-trial in jail than a gun offender, something is wrong.”
Johnson, who has for months complained about Illinois’ lax gun laws, said he thinks more and more gang members are arming themselves because the price for being caught is small compared to other large cities. He said gang members he has spoken to consider the court system “a joke.”
The bulk of the deaths and shooting incidents, which jumped from 2,426 in 2015 to 3,550 last year, occurred in only five of the city’s 22 police districts on the city’s South and West sides, all poor and predominantly black areas where gangs are most active.
Police said the shootings in those areas generally weren’t random, with more than 80 percent of the victims having previously been identified by police as more susceptible because of their gang ties or past arrests.
The city has scrambled to address the violence. Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced last year that 1,000 officers would be added to the police department. At the same time, police officials have been trying to figure out why homicides and shootings — which began climbing the year before — suddenly surged.
On Sunday, Johnson said he hoped several initiatives — including more street cameras in some of the city’s most dangerous neighborhoods, and the expansion of gunshot-detection systems — would lead to more arrests and drive down the violent crime rate.
Johnson has said several factors have contributed to the increased violence. He noted 2016 was the first full year since the city was forced in November 2015 to release video of the fatal police shooting of Laquan McDonald, the black 17-year-old boy who was shot 16 times by a white police officer.
The video cost former Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy his job, sparked major protests around the city, and led to federal and state investigations of the police department.
It also left Johnson with the task of trying to restore public trust in what appeared to be a weakened police force, a perception that was only buttressed by a dramatic drop in the number of arrests in 2016.
The police department has cited several factors for the declining numbers, including a concerted effort not to make minor drug arrests and focus on gun violence. Johnson pointed to gun arrests and gun seizures as evidence that his officers are aggressively fighting crime.
But critics said they have no doubt that officers have become far more reluctant to do their jobs since the McDonald video was released and the officer who killed the teen was charged with murder.
“It’s almost like a pull back so they (gangs) can kill each other sort of thing,” said the Rev. Marshall Hatch, a prominent minister in one of Chicago’s most dangerous neighborhoods on the West Side.
Johnson acknowledged in a recent interview with The Associated Press that officers have become more cautious — in part out of fear of becoming the next “viral video.” He also said a state law that took effect last January requiring officers to fill out lengthy contact cards when they stop someone has resulted in fewer stops, because the cards require more paperwork for officers and the cards are “scrutinized” by federal judges.
He said those concerns are not lost on criminals.
“Criminals watch TV, pay attention to the media,” he said. “They see an opportunity to commit nefarious activity.”

He will be coming up on WLS AM (not FM) next hour for rebuttal Q & A on the 60 Minutes segment. Should be interesting.
I expect it will be discussed later on WBEZ radio and WTTW Chicago Tonight on local PBS. He's talk of the town today!
And some caller suggests Garry should run for Mayor, lol. He would have more oversight over the CPD than the Supt. does.
I've seen this movie before, lots of Big Shoulders jockeying for the powerslots in the post Obama, post Rahm era ahead.

The Trump administration should approach South Chicago like the war zone it is. Think about it. Over 4k shootings this year alone. Nearly 800 dead. It's like Iraq, and this is inside one of America's largest cites. Unacceptable, period. The Government should provide a Safe Zone, getting those who are trapped out of the area.Vette them properly allowing for the good people who are stuck an avenue to escape. Keep the scumbags there, and bring in the army or even special forces to clean it up, taking no prisoners. Once control is back in place, the good people can return and begin to rebuild their neighborhoods. It's the only way, it's already gone to far, and let it go unchecked it will only spread to the rest of the area.

I disagree, TT. They are already killing each other with abandon and the walls are already there. All that would have to be done is to secure those noise reduction walls that line the highways. The containment area could be "relocated" as was needed by simply securing another wall.

One of the main problems is the economic collapse in the Midwest. Here in Indiana, we had good paying factory jobs in both major urban centers and in smaller towns/cities. Those jobs are basically gone. Those in the city, for the most part, survived as there were other jobs available. While the pay went way down, many of these folks purchased decent homes for around $70K so the mortgages weren't horrible. It has always seemed to me that just as black people were making inroads into a more middle class lifestyle by getting these better jobs, the entire thing collapsed around them. Maybe I'm off, as I wasn't old enough back then to really remember the details.
Right now, there is no where for poor blacks or whites to go. Our rural areas here in Indiana are starting to become just as bad as the minority heavy urban areas. Shootings, killings, multiple victim killings, and most of it is drug related. I'm seeing the same issues black folks have been dealing with starting to really affect the lower middle class and working poor whites. Every so often a middle to upper class kid gets caught up in drugs and ODs.
One thing I have noticed, which is a very touchy subject for some, is that usually those who get out and go to college and stay in college are the black females. The black male retention rate isn't all that great from what I read at one school. However, the women seem to do a lot better. One thing some have blogged about is that these successful young black women should consider dating and marrying white men. This is a very debated topic and it has even happened in my own family. There are some good young black women out there who are struggling to find "Mr. Right," yet I've read that they hesitate to date outside their race as one starts to get called a traitor. All the while, the black men don't get as harsh of treatment when they do this. I can say, one way to secure a better future for one's self is to definitely not marry down. This means down in terms of income for the most part, but can also include other things like attitude, how good of a parent one would make, etc..

The decline in "street stops" likely had a significant impact to some extent. Street stops are nothing more than cops getting into someone's business who they haven't witnessed do anything wrong. If there is reasonable suspicion of a crime, cops have always had the ability to forcefully detain a person while they investigate. With these stops, and this includes 'stop and frisk', those cops who enjoyed getting into someone else's business would interject themselves into that person's life for no reason at all. There were claims they are consensual, but sometimes it is a small group of armed police who are throwing out request such as "Can I see some ID?" or "Can I pat you down?" In some cases, some cops have been went over the line, basically using their tone, body posture, etc. to make it sure appear as if one isn't free to leave. Some even have went further, frisking people without consent.
I watched the recent 60 minutes broadcast, and they put a lot of the increase in killings on the fact that these so-called consensual interactions are way down. All this means is that the guy who has an open warrant and shoots someone next week likely won't be picked up on the warrant by the beat cops this week. People can't have it both ways. You can't decry the practice of getting into people's business when they have done nothing wrong but then want cops to get dangerous people and illegal guns off the street like they were before. After everything that has happened in this country there was likely a large number of police officers who are just switching to being report takers anyway. I do believe that many will still stop someone they see either committing a crime or likely taking active steps toward that (ie: Looking into the business window from a dark alley way).

Money isn't the only solution or even one of the main ones.
1. Children born to unmarried mothers have a much, much worse time in life. That right there is a huge part of the problem, 80% or so of black children illegitimate. No father in the home.
2. Lack of religion in their lives.
3. Rotten to the core education, especially racist indoctrination "I am Black - I am Proud - BLM, Hate whitey, hate cops" etcetc.
4. AFDC and other welfare so mothers feel free to have kids without marriage and get paid for it.
5. Fewer good jobs that people can do without a college degree. Need to be more jobs that a high school education is sufficient.
6. No death penalty, anyone who murders should be executed, along with some other crimes. And not after 30 years.

Metra/South Shore have a stop there underground at McCormick place too. No not his safety but rather the city itself. Tickets are first come first serve distributed Jan 7th. Its the post tailgate drama, the inevitable rancor and bitterness over a failed admin manifesting as domestic squalls later that night. And the requisite dope dealing rivalry to secure party favors in advance, because POTUS is in town. The CTA was always absolute misery when he was back and forth to O'Hare. Paranoid train engineers braking too hard, barking mad agents and maintenance crews. I'll pray for very cold air to stifle gang lunacy.
