Fauci Says Lockdown Will Continue Until There Are No "New Cases" Of COVID-19

Authored by Paul Joseph Watson via Summit News,

Dr. Anthony S. Fauci says that the United States will not come out of lockdown until there are no “new cases” of coronavirus, prompting some to question precisely how long that will be.

During yesterday’s White House briefing, Fauci, who has become the face of America’s response to the coronavirus, was asked by a reporter whether social distancing measures will be imposed until there is a drug or vaccine to treat COVID-19.

Journey through London's empty streets during coronavirus lockdown

“I think if we get to the part of the curve that Dr. Birx showed yesterday when it goes down to essentially no new cases, no new deaths at a period of time. I think it makes sense that you will have to relax social distancing,” Fauci said.

“The one thing we hopefully would have in place, and I believe we will have in place, is a much more robust system to be able to identify someone who was infected, isolate them and then do contact tracing,” he added.
The prospect of there ever being zero new coronavirus cases appears to be a very long way off, leading some to question if Fauci was asking Americans to adopt social distancing indefinitely, or at least until a vaccine is available.

“Fauci said that we can start to “relax” social distancing once there are “no new cases, no deaths.” Is it just me or is that completely batshit insane?” asked Matt Walsh. “That would keep us in a lockdown for many months or years. And if the virus becomes endemic, forever. How can that be the plan?”

“No kidding. We would need to assume that any vaccine would be immediately available, 100% effective, 100% of the population has access to it, and 100% of the population takes it,” commented another respondent.

“Sounds like they’ll eventually have to keep us “temporarily” locked in our homes. No cars on the road. No people at stores or gas stations, and the national guard will start leaving a box of food on our doorsteps every 3 days. And everyone will be ok with it,” added another.

Italy is already experiencing looting and civil unrest as a result of lockdown measures.

Experts have suggested that this could be a massive problem everywhere if authorities attempt to quarantine entire countries for too long.

They have to do a lockdown because politicians have to be seen to do SOMETHING. Lockdowns can help delay the surge while therapies improve, infrastructure is bolstered, or a vaccine gets closer. But lockdowns can't last long, and (as China found) ending it is like letting go of the tiger.

The main reason they are doing lockdowns, in my opinion, is to keep the hospitals from being overwhelmed so that people aren't dying in the streets. Once US citizens see grandma's body on a sidewalk, a lot of the political class can kiss their jobs goodbye.

Technically, the exact quote is “essentially no new cases”. A lot of wiggle room there.

Out of copyright violation paranoia I do not want to post anything, but I have seen both Scott Gotleib (ex FDA commissioner) and everyone’s favorite Bill Gates talking about a phased plan to open things back up, after there are “essentially no new cases”.

Come on, Really????
How many people are dying in the street because they can't go to a hospital?

Are you sure about that?

ZH is picking a particular part of the quote. The definition of "essentially" is fuzzy. I bet somebody will ask for that definition someday.

Fauci is strange to say the least. I'm pretty sure I met him years ago as he was traveling with Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail. He introduced himself to me and was expecting me to know of him, I didn't. He handled me his camera, asking if I would takes of him with Hillary. I took plenty of photos of them together. When Hillary finished her talk on health care, Fauci grabbed his camera from me and just walked away, like he was pissed off or something. Maybe he could sense I wasn't a Democrat. Anyway, Cynthia McFadden was there also, I walked up stairs behind her. Wow, she looks different in real life, bummer.......

I am not sure that this society/economy can take months of an extended lock down. Lots of nervous breakdowns in the future or other ugliness.

Humans are social critters and this enforced isolation is getting to everyone. At least I can escape to my "Woman Cave" if the GK and YS really get on my nerves, plus go play in the garden when it warms up enough. Just hoping I can get stuff to plant as we are still a month or more away from planting season.

Might be a good idea to look into one of those "survival seed" packs on Amazon. Like 20 bucks but you get a whole bunch of heirloom seeds that can be recollected over and over again. You probably won't get everything you want, but there's quite a bit in one.

By the middle or end of May, a whole HOST of youngsters under 40 are going to have been educated.

And NOT GENTLY either about how things were for their grand parents and great grands.

When they are SERIOUSLY talking about converting the I-X Center AND the Convention Center in Cleveland into thousand bed emergency hospitals, damn kids need to get a CLUE before they get struck by either the CLUE-Bat or the KNOWLEDGE-Stick.

I didn't say it was going to last that long; I said to be ready for it. We're going to have some kind of severe restrictions (short of lockdown) for a long time. If you're prepped for 18 months, it will be way more tolerable.

...good point. Still though, getting ready for 18 months, especially right now, is going to be a rough slog. I don't think you can even FIND that much Mountain House any more. Took me like five years to get the cash together to even TRY for a year.

At some point in the future, I believe that people will just go back to some type of
normal regular routine and ignore these people. Since they have disrupted the tax
flow, I wonder if that will ever go back to normal? People will devise ways to cut of
that cash cow as it is wasted money.

More sensationalism from Zero Hedge, and then people here run with it.
Get a freeking grip.

Look, I know you hate Zero Hedge, but for crying out loud, the guy actually said:

when it goes down to essentially no new cases, no new deaths at a period of time. I think it makes sense that you will have to relax social distancing,”

And even then, what's "relax" social distancing? You can go out for an hour a day? Mass curfews?

Essentially is a big word here in this context.
I agree with Walkntrot, zerohedge has jumped the shark bigtime
..and we saw dead bodies on the streets already (katrina)(9/11), and it didn't cost anyone anything---unless you count the horror of decent folks everywhere who tend to cringe at that sort of thing. we don't count for much though.

Social distancing is 6 feet in public. Many other enterprises can be relaxed long before.

From a medical standpoint he is correct and that is what I would expect him to say. Of course coming out of that we would no longer have an economy or food in the stores. Trump has to find a sweet spot between no restrictions and lockdown.
Almost the exact words I was about to write...
