BRKG Dubai Skyscraper Hotel Engulfed by Fire

Now they are saying 90% contained.

Here's a picture of "90% contained."

(I'd always heard that BLACK smoke meant the fire was still burning freely; smoke with water being poured on a fire turns white)

Throw in the fact of how quickly these buildings were built in Dubai and built with slave labor as well.. One has to wonder how many things were overlooked in the construction

They forgot to make the apartments suicide vest preparation bomber proof.

Or there was an ISIS meeting and one of the rags forgot to deactivate their firebomb before the meeting began.

That looks like 90% contained within the building to me. Maybe 10% of the fire is going out the windows.

Another pic of this so-called "90-% contained" fire--the little box in the top right is concurrent coverage of their New Year's celebration--which IS GOING ON despite the fire, and in the SAME general location (that ought to be very helpful to the fire fighters)...

They've apparently started the fireworks show, now--all kinds of crazy blue and red lights shining on and above the building / fire:

Those fireworks looked like they were designed to make it appear the Burj Dubai was on fire, seriously surreal. Quite the fireworks show though.

The "really tall buiding" is the one from which the fireworks were being shot off (as well as from apparently other locations around the city square, timed to go off at certain intervals).

They are NOT at this moment showing the building on fire, but the last screenshot I got of it showed an ENTIRELY NEW ANGLE (they moved away from the side it started on, plus the NEW side where the fire was headed up toward the top) and last I saw were only showing a VERY HEALTHY AREA OF FIRE at the bottom FROM A NEW SIDE ANGLE of the building--don't know if they're trying to disguise the extent of the fire or not:

They are no longer showing the fire--once the fireworks were over, they went off. Reporter is trying to find a new good live link, but Dubai TV just keeps wanting to show New Years celebrations and NOT the fire.

Here's one she found--not the best quality but best I have that she could find:

Editor's note: While Dubai officials report the fire at the downtown Address hotel is nearly contained, witnesses tell MSNBC that debris continues to fall from the building. Smoke was still billowing from the 63-story hotel as a large New Year's Eve fireworks display went on as scheduled at the nearby Burj Khalifa. Earlier, several explosions were heard from the building and Khaleej Times reports they could have come from a gas cylinder at a restaurant. Nothing has been confirmed and there hasn't been an official update on the status of the fire since the fireworks display. - Stephanie

Any mention of terrorism?

Earlier in the thread, Dubai authorities said while they don't think it was terrorist (and don't have a clue WHAT caused the fire) they will be investigating as if it WERE a terrorist attack...

Sounds like common sense to me these days.

Looks like it went pretty fast up the side of the building. They wouldn't happened to have used some kind of plastic siding would they? I've seen a couple of smaller new buildings in town that have siding that looks just like brick or concrete. The stuff looks amazingly real.

Towering Inferno -- Not the Movie!

Waiting, waiting, waiting, what no collapse!! But how can we take down the other building blocks away without this one collapsing... :popcorn1: Shades of Towering Inferno! This building will not collapse nor has any other modern steel framed skyscraper including a 50+ story one in Brazil that was completely gutted by fire. BTW, all those plastics and polymers even-though flame-retardant plastics, they still can burn hot with as much if not more BTU loading than jet fuel and they create pool fires that also cling to surfaces depending upon burn temperatures. Hope no one was injured or killed (smoke from those kinds of fires is quickly lethal (MGM Grand Fire).

It looks like the exterior skin of the structure just burned off. What kind of material did they use? Plastic? Magnesium?

Something definitely not right. It is like the exterior was made of tissue. Also the sprinkler system did not control interior damage.
