I'm not a big Trump fan. Like most of his policies, but don't like the way he does things. And you are right, this is probably a waste of money. But I contributed anyway, and believe all freedom loving Americans, right or left, should as well. Simply to make a point. You can't use the legal system to remove a political opponent. Trump deserves all the help we can give him to fight this. Because if he loses, we are next.

I agree 100%. The meme just summed things up pretty well.
That's one of the things that bothers me about memes: the overuse of clichés. It's tiresome to be constantly told, "You should be outraged!" & "Somebody should do something!" The problem is when one lone soul sticks their neck out, they get their head promptly chopped off. We're stuck between that proverbial rock & hard place. We're boned, basically.

I'm not getting why a temporary lien on property is not the solution to this issue. They can't do anything to the property. He can't sell it. That holds until the final decision on the case. At that point, he pays the fine. Or he loses the property.
But while it's in flux, no I wouldn't be good with the state taking over running the business. They have a really hard time with making businesses successful, would likely permanently damage both the business and the building, and money would just go wandering off everywhere but where it is supposed to be.
Oh, and NYC was already bleeding people but quite a few I knew that were "on the fence" are finding ways out now. Their very pointed worry is that if laws can be manipulated like that to screw Trump, what's to stop local officials from doing that in their areas to people they don't get along with.

He can't sell it anyway. They already appointed a government "special master" that is running his businesses. He doesn't have control of them anymore.
So yes that should be enough, but the whole point is to irrevocably break him and then put him in prison.

Reading between the lines, it looks like Trump will call their bluff and let them take the properties. The fallout may be one reason. Although they keep talking about padlocking Trump Tower, they seem to be looking at some of his less high-profile and expensive targets.
The judge herself did seem to be drooling over padlocking Trump Tower and may yet do so. But I think some of the cooler heads, the ones more focused on business than party politics, are starting to realize the rather epic consequences that could have for the City and even the State of New York.
Her silly "assurance" to other businesses that it wouldn't happen to them, implying that this was "Only for Trump," made things worse, in my opinion. Any relatively sane person, especially someone running a large corporation or bank, will think, "Today, Trump, tomorrow it could be me!"
They will continue to leave the State, this time in droves. Even the Stock Market stopped playing with the idea of relocation and decided to relocate.

I.e. the judgement pending appeal is about 1/6th of Trump's total net worth.
He could afford to walk away and not appeal. If he appealed and won - he could be owed the take-over PLUS damages from New York. (i.e. lost income, maintenance and continuation of the structures and organization.)
There are two appeals possible: it could be on the basis of the original judgement (did Trump in fact commit fraud in securing his loan?) OR on its 8th Amendment merits of egregious punishment.

New York Democratic Attorney General Letitia James took her first step toward seizing the assets of former President Donald Trump as part of the more than $450 million civil fraud judgment he faces.
James' office filed judgments in Westchester County, which indicates that the state is getting ready to try to seize Seven Springs, Trump's golf course and private estate, CNN reported Thursday.
The judgments were entered with the Westchester County Clerk's Office on March 6, one week after Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump to pay the major fraud fine and well before Trump's deadline to satisfy the judgment.
The filing is the first step a creditor takes to try to recover property. The next steps could be putting liens on assets or trying to force a foreclosure, among other things.
Trump offered last month to post a $100 million appeal bond instead of the full $464 million he is required to post to appeal, but Engoron denied the proposal.

They have to honor the rental lease of the companies or people living there. The Attorney General will have to go the entire process to pull this off and that government office does not do real estate. They may find out the real estate holdings in the state of New York does not amount to six hundred million dollar$ and Trumps bank accounts may be out reach of the New York State attorney general.
Selling the buildings they may find no one wants them or willing to bid on them.
