The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 19% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-three percent (43%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -24.

Republicans have jumped back to a six-point lead over Democrats on the Generic Congressional Ballot for the week ending Sunday, October 2. This is the widest gap between the two parties in a month of weekly tracking.

Americans believe more strongly than ever that China is a long-term threat to the United States, and they overwhelmingly feel that threat is economic rather than military.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 19% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-three percent (43%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -24.

Only once, on August 31 of this year, has this president had a lower Approval Index rating. President Obama trails a Generic Republican by six points in a very early look at Election 2012.

The Rasmussen Employment Index, which measures workers’ perceptions of the labor market each month, gained back a little lost ground in September after falling to a 2011 low in August. Still, just 18% of workers report their employers are hiring while 22% still report lay-offs. It has now been three full years since the number hiring topped the number for lay-offs.

Just 29% of American Adults believe the United States has the best economy in the world. That’s down from 35% a year ago. Only 19% have a favorable opinion of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

Only 36% believe that human activity is primarily to blame for Global Warming. Forty-four percent (44%) think long-term planetary trends are at work. Most think President Obama believes human activity is the cause.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 19% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-three percent (43%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -24.

Sixty percent (60%) of American adults still believe the financial industry bailouts were a bad idea. Democrats are more supportive of the Wall Street assistance than Republicans or those not affiliated with either major party.

Thirty-six percent (36%) believe that unemployment will be higher in a year while only 22% believe it will be lower. Those numbers are far more pessimistic than they were at the beginning of 2011.

Just 26% have a favorable opinion of Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 20% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-three percent (43%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -23.

Thirty-one percent (31%) want the government to assume financial responsibility for the long-term unemployed, either by offering them a job or by extending unemployment benefits. Fifty-seven percent (57%) disagree and say the government should either do nothing at all or merely provide retraining.

Just 10% recognize that the federal government can spend the Social Security Trust Fund money however it wants. An overwhelming majority mistakenly believes that Social Security tax revenue can be used only to pay Social Security benefits. Overall, 52% still have a favorable opinion of the New Deal program and 42% expect to receive all promised benefits.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 21% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -20.

Fifty-one percent (51%) believe the agenda of Congressional Democrats is extreme rather than mainstream. Nearly as many say the same about the agenda of Congressional Republicans. Fifty-nine percent (59%) say the every Democrat in Congress is more liberal than they are. Forty-seven percent (47%) believe the average Republican in Congress is more conservative than they are.

Herman Cain has pulled to within three points of President Obama in a hypothetical 2012 match-up. The newest top-tier candidate for the GOP nomination has presented a 9-9-9 tax plan that remains broadly unknown but earns generally favorable reviews among those who have heard of it. Republican voters are especially supportive, although views could change as both the candidate and the plan gain more visibility and scrutiny. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 23% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Thirty-nine percent (39%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -16.

Seventy percent (70%) believe it is more important to give individuals the right to select their own health insurance plans rather than have the federal government establish a minimum level of health insurance for all Americans. Seventy-six percent (76%) believe that people should be allowed to buy health insurance coverage for issues like unexpected surgeries or cancer but pay for routine doctor visits on their own without insurance. Just 12% disagree.

A Generic Republican leads President Obama by six. However, the president leads former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney by two points in a new Election 2012 survey. He also leads Herman Cain by three. New data for a match-up with Texas Governor Rick Perry will be released today at noon Eastern.

Most (62%) believe that exercise, diet and lifestyle choices have a bigger impact on someone’s health than health insurance and medical care. Republicans and unaffiliated voters overwhelmingly hold this view while most Democrats disagree and think health insurance and medical care are more important.

Just 16% of homeowners believe the value of their home will increase this year. Perhaps even more troubling is the fact that just 41% believe their home will go up in value over the next FIVE years.

Following the death of Moammar Gadhafi, President Obama received a polling bounce for his handling of the situation in Libya. However, even with that news, just 41% agree with the president’s decision to get involved militarily in Libya. While Americans are a bit happier about the outcome in Libya, there has been no bounce in the president’s overall approval ratings.

Given a choice, 41% of the nation’s adults say that their views are closer to the Tea Party than to Occupy Wall Street. Thirty-four percent (34%) are closer to Occupy Wall Street.

Forty-four percent (44%) now give the president good or excellent marks for his handling of the situation in Libya. That’s up 12 points following the death of Moammar Gadhafi.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 21% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -21.

The president earns Strong Approval from 42% of Democrats and Strong Disapproval from 77% of Republicans. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 16% Strongly Approve and 41% Strongly Disapprove.

Only 19% expect the so-called super committee to reach a deal to reduce the federal deficit by $1.2 trillion. Scott Rasmussen discussed the low and skeptical public expectations with Patti Ann Browne on Fox News yesterday. Most voters expect that if a deal is reached, it will cut spending too little and raise taxes too much.

Twenty-two percent (22%) favor a federal government transfer of $35 billion to help state and local governments avoid layoffs of teachers and first responders. Sixty-four percent (64%) think it would be better for state and local governments to cut other spending to prevent such layoffs.

Nineteen percent (19%) of workers say their firms are hiring, 23% report layoffs. That’s little changed from a month ago. Overall, the Rasmussen Employment Index slipped two points.

The number of Republicans in the country inched up half a percentage point last month while the number of Democrats slipped by a similar amount. Overall, 34.3% of Americans now consider themselves to be Republicans while 33.1% are Democrats.

A Generic Republican continues to lead President Obama in early 2012 polling. However, the president leads Herman Cain by five and all other Republican contenders except Mitt Romney.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 19% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -23.

Herman Cain, despite a week filled fending off allegations of sexual harassment, leads the GOP field nationally. Cain attracts 26% of the vote, Mitt Romney picks up 23%, Newt Gingrich 14% and 13% are undecided. All others are in single digits. The Georgia businessman leads the South Carolina GOP primary by 10 points.

Scott Rasmussen told NPR that the results again show that GOP voters are fundamentally rejecting the status quo.

"It's almost as if they're saying, 'We know that Herman Cain has had some trouble talking about issues like Afghanistan and abortion. He's having trouble responding to these allegations. But then again he couldn't possibly do any worse than the guys who have driven us so far in debt over the past few generations.'"

Mitt Romney and President Obama remain essentially even in a head-to-head match-up. The president leads other GOP hopefuls by single digits.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 22% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Thirty-eight percent (38%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -16.

That's the president's best rating in three weeks and matches his best rating of the past three months. It comes at a time when 51% of voters nationwide believe that the president is more liberal than they are.

The Rasmussen Consumer Index shows that consumer confidence has fallen sharply since Friday's jobs report.

Cost argued that conservatives need to gain control of the Republican presidential nomination process if they want a conservative nominee. Twenty-four percent (24%) of voters nationwide believe that the president’s 2009 stimulus plan helped reduce unemployment. Thirty percent (30%), however, believe the stimulus added to the problem and increased unemployment.

Rick Perry now trails President Obama by nine in a hypothetical 2012 match-up. In California, the president leads a Generic Republican by four points.

The improvement in the president’s ratings follows an improvement in consumer confidence. As measured daily by the Rasmussen Consumer Index, confidence so far in November has been consistently higher than in any month since June. It remains to be seen whether this is the start of an improving economic trend or simply a temporary improvement. Thirty-one percent (31%) of Americans currently rate their finances as good or excellent. That’s down from 35% when President Obama took office. However, if that number improves significantly between now and November 2012, it would be very good for the president’s re-election prospects.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 25% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty percent (40%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -15.

On the Generic Congressional Ballot, Republicans have led every week for more than two years but are now tied with the Democrats at 41%.

While the Generic Congressional Ballot is encouraging for Democrats, the numbers out of Pennsylvania are not. A Generic Republican holds a slight advantage over President Obama in the Keystone State. A Generic Republican also leads the president in both Ohio and Florida.

The president has recently suggested he will act alone to help the economy but just 27% of voters think this is appropriate. Sixty-three percent (63%) believe he should work more with Congress on the economy. This comes as just 18% believe the country is generally heading in the right direction. With those right direction numbers, Scott Rasmussen said on Fox News that he considers Barack Obama a slight underdog in his bid for re-election.

Voters strongly support the concept of tax reform leading to fewer deductions and lower tax rates. However, flat tax proposals receive less than glowing reviews. Most Americans do support a plan with no deductions and graduated rates of 5%, 10%, and 20%.

Sorry for the gap. We had a flood of company and all nine grandchildren in town last week. I was busy from morning until bedtime and was only able to snatch computer time here and there. Rasmussen did not publish any new Presidential polling results over the holiday weekend. --- Terri

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 21% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -20.

The president gets low marks from gun owners and home owners. Additionally, 48% trust Republicans more than Democrats on the economy. Only 37% trust the Democrats more.

Most voters to continue to favor repeal of the health care law passed last year and most now think repeal is likely.

Before Black Friday, 7% of Americans had already finished their holiday shopping. Fifty-nine percent (59%) hadn’t even started. Regardless of when they buy, 62% plan a spending less than they did a year ago.
