CORONA Cure found?

We've discussed this several times in that long main corona virus thresd. They've been combining quinine with an HIV med combo, and apparently seeing drastic improvements very quickly.

I can't source the HIV drug, but chloroquine was still available at Alldaychemist a few days ago.

This is great news! How am I supposed to keep up with everything . . .argh! This is very encouraging, but then if Elon Musk has anything to do with it in any way, shape, or form, I will pass. If he is just truly watching from the sidelines, then maybe it is kosher.

Was that the testing they were doing in China? I put up an article in the main thread, which said a test (didn't say which one) had failed.

BTW Elon want's his workers to get back to work, and break the lockdown where the factory is. I thought he had brains, must just be the joint he was smoking.

No, I think it was tested in Italy... can't swear to it: after reading all 35,000 posts on that thread, it starts to run together! My photographic memory ran out of film! LOL!

Summerthyme

OK it's cool, I understand, I never had any film. 'Sides the article only said "a test" but not which one.

French researcher posts successful Covid-19 drug trial

The trial was completed by Professor Didier Raoult, based at infectious diseases institute, IHU Méditerranée Infection in Marseille
A renowned research professor in France has reported successful results from a new treatment for Covid-19, with early tests suggesting it can stop the virus from being contagious in just six days.

Professor Didier Raoult from infection hospital l'Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire (IHU) Méditerranée Infection in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), published a video explaining the trials on Monday March 16.

Professor Raoult is an infectious diseases specialist and head of the IHU Méditerranée Infection, who has been tasked by - and consulted by - the French government to research possible treatments of Covid-19.

He said that the first Covid-19 patients he had treated with the drug chloroquine had seen a rapid and effective speeding up of their healing process, and a sharp decrease in the amount of time they remained contagious.

Chloroquine - which is normally used mainly to prevent and treat malaria - was administered via the named drug, Plaquenil.

The treatment was offered to 24 patients, who were among the first to become infected in the south east of France, and who had voluntarily admitted themselves to hospital for the process.

Patients were given 600mcg per day for 10 days. They were closely monitored, as the drug can interact with other medication, and cause severe side effects in some cases.

Professor Raoult said: “We included everyone who was in agreement [to be treated], which was almost everyone. Two towns in the protocol, Nice and Avignon, gave us [infected] patients who had not yet received treatment.

“We were able to ascertain that patients who had not received Plaquenil (the drug containing hydroxychloroquine) were still contagious after six days, but of those that had received Plaquenil, after six days, only 25% were still contagious.”

Chloroquine phosphate and hydroxychloroquine have previously been used to treat coronavirus patients in China, in ongoing Covid-19 clinical trials.

Kaletra, a US-based antiviral drug normally used to treat HIV, is another medicine that is being tested in the fight against Covid-19.

US academic study concurs

A new academic study, published on Friday March 13 by US scientific researchers, also said that chloroquine appeared to be an effective treatment, and appears to align with the findings in France.

It said: “Use of chloroquine (tablets) is showing favorable outcomes in humans infected with Coronavirus including faster time to recovery and shorter hospital stay…

“Research shows that chloroquine also has strong potential as a prophylactic (preventative) measure against coronavirus in the lab, while we wait for a vaccine to be developed.

“Chloroquine is an inexpensive, globally available drug that has been in widespread human use since 1945 against malaria, autoimmune and various other conditions…[it] can be prescribed to adults and children of all ages.

"It can also be safely taken by pregnant women and nursing mothers [and] has been widely used to treat human diseases, such as malaria, amoebiosis, HIV, and autoimmune diseases, without significant detrimental side effects.”

Researchers worldwide are continuing to work on developing a vaccine against Covid-19.

So far, no country - nor the World Health Organisation (WHO) - has officially published treatment measures against Covid-19, but in China and South Korea, guidelines already outline the use of chloroquine as an “effective treatment”, the study report said.

Don't try. Seriously, don't. You'll go nuts from all the news. Just let things like this come up and praise God when they do. :D

French Confirmed COVID-19 patients were included in a single arm protocol from early March to March 16th, to receive 600mg of hydroxychloroquine daily and their viral load in nasopharyngeal swabs was tested daily in a hospital setting. Depending on their clinical presentation, azithromycin was added to the treatment. Untreated patients from another center and cases refusing the protocol were included as negative controls. Presence and absence of virus at Day6-post inclusion was considered the end point.

Concerning my reply to Summerthyme:

Here is the snippet I was referring to, from zerohedge in the main thread:

It's likely this crisis won't truly be over until a vaccine is mass-produced. And looking forward, headlines pertaining to drug trials for treatments and vaccines might be some of the only positive news investors get. Unfortunately, the opposite happened on Thursday, when the first scientifically controlled clinical trial of existing antiviral drugs to treat Covid-19 has delivered disappointing results.

As the FT reminds us, the next important controlled clinical trial result to look out for involves remdesivir, a drug originally developed by Gilead Sciences of the US to treat Ebola. That trial is also taking place in Wuhan. Meanwhile, in the US, a vaccine trial is underway in the Pacific Northwest.

After doing a light quick search I didn't find the study they were referring to.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and I am on plaquinil to treat it. Please be careful it has some nasty side effects including permanent blindness. Please read up on it before taking.

Oh yikes, I guess you would have to weigh risk versus reward. How sick would you want to be before you take it. Thank you for sharing.

side effects of some of these malaria drugs include blindness, homicidal violence, suicide, and flu like symptoms. So don't rush out to take them just in case. If money isn't an issue..Probably would not hurt to have a bottle in storage.

Is a fluoroquinalone related to the drugs listed above? I was given one for kidney stones, i had hallucinations on the stuff and it's WELL known to cause hallucinations in older people, that gets u a psych diagnosis that u can never shake off. Glenn Beck just finished an interview with the guy...

THIS! I would not recommend anyone just to start taking the drug as a "just in case". Having it on hand for emergency use would be ok. Each person reacts differently to Plaquenil. Some may be able to take high doses without any side effects, but others can go blind from just taking a small dose over a period of time. I have been taking Plaquenil for two years at dosage of 400mg/daily, and already have eye damage. One also needs to think about interactions with other drugs you may be taking.

"600 mcg. Same as 600 mg?"

There are 1000 micrograms in a milligram. The difference might earn a Darwin, or at least be worthy of a thread on TB2K.

I totally agree. I take Plaquenil daily for Lupus. Plaquenil and Hydroxychloroquine are the same thing.

Is this drug (asking since it ends in "chloroQUINE")-- in the same family as the antibiotics LevaQUIN ((levofloxacin) and Cipro (ciprofloxacin)???

If so, I won't be able to take it as those cause VERY negative reactions in my body.

I also have had cornea REPLACEMENTS (DESEK) in BOTH eyes---would that contraindicate being able to take this drug?

Watch Live: Trump Details Newly Approved Covid-19 Therapies, Widens Access To Experimental Drugs

by Tyler Durden
Thu, 03/19/2020 - 10:55

Update (1150ET): As expected, President Trump said Thursday that several new medications have been approved by the FDA for immediate treatment due to the exceptional circumstances. The drugs approved have been used for other reasons, but weren't approved for use against the coronavirus.
Trump also said he was pushing through a "right to try" plan that would increase access to experimental drugs and vaccines.
Though he sounded extremely tired, the market took the news as a positive.

-floxacin is the generic category of the ANTIBIOTIC, nothing to do with the similarity of a brand name.
