Did not see a thread on this but here is a story about the Reddit user that created the GIF that CNN went so crazy about - well they tracked him down, apparently made him apologize and are saying they will release / could release his name should he change his statement of apology. - seems a lot like Blackmail and CNN is getting hit all over twitter #cnnblackmail as the tag

I tell you some of the GIFs being made in response are pretty funny too

Story highlights
The Reddit user who initially claimed credit for President Donald Trump's tweet issued an apology Tuesday.
The day before his apology, CNN identified the man behind the account and attempted to make contact with him.

(CNN)The Reddit user who initially claimed credit for President Donald Trump's tweet that showed Trump tackling CNN issued an apology Tuesday for the video and other offensive content he posted -- one day after CNN identified the man behind the account and attempted to make contact with him.

Reddit user "HanA**holeSolo" first shared the GIF last Wednesday of Trump pummeling a wrestler with CNN's logo imposed on his face. CNN could find no earlier instance of the GIF. The GIF was later edited into a video with sound and tweeted by the President on Sunday.

On Reddit, "HanA**holeSolo" took credit for inspiring the tweet. Soon after, "HanA**holeSolo's" other posts on Reddit, some of which included racist and anti-Semitic imagery, quickly circulated on social media.

Now the user is apologizing, writing in a lengthy post on Reddit that he does not advocate violence against the press and expressing remorse there and in an interview with CNN for other posts he made that were racist and anti-Semitic.
The apology came after CNN's KFile identified the man behind "HanA**holeSolo." Using identifying information that "HanA**holeSolo" posted on Reddit, KFile was able to determine key biographical details, to find the man's name using a Facebook search and ultimately corroborate details he had made available on Reddit.
On Monday, KFile attempted to contact the man by email and phone but he did not respond. On Tuesday, "HanA**holeSolo" posted his apology on the subreddit /The_Donald and deleted all of his other posts.

"First of all, I would like to apologize to the members of the reddit community for getting this site and this sub embroiled in a controversy that should never have happened," he wrote. "I would also like to apologize for the posts made that were racist, bigoted, and anti-semitic. I am in no way this kind of person, I love and accept people of all walks of life and have done so for my entire life. I am not the person that the media portrays me to be in real life, I was trolling and posting things to get a reaction from the subs on reddit and never meant any of the hateful things I said in those posts. I would never support any kind of violence or actions against others simply for what they believe in, their religion, or the lifestyle they choose to have. Nor would I carry out any violence against anyone based upon that or support anyone who did."

The user further apologized for calls for violence against the press in his statement on Reddit.

"The meme was created purely as satire, it was not meant to be a call to violence against CNN or any other news affiliation," he wrote. "I had no idea anyone would take it and put sound to it and then have it put up on the President's Twitter feed. It was a prank, nothing more. What the President's feed showed was not the original post that was posted here, but loaded up somewhere else and sound added to it then sent out on Twitter. I thought it was the original post that was made and that is why I took credit for it. I have the highest respect for the journalist community and they put their lives on the line every day with the jobs that they do in reporting the news."
The apology has since been taken down by the moderators of /The_Donald subreddit.
After posting his apology, "HanA**holeSolo" called CNN's KFile and confirmed his identity. In the interview, "HanA**holeSolo" sounded nervous about his identity being revealed and asked to not be named out of fear for his personal safety and for the public embarrassment it would bring to him and his family.

CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.

CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.

After Trump tweeted the video on Sunday, "HanA**holeSolo" took to Reddit to say he was "honored," writing "Holy s—!! I wake up and have my morning coffee and who retweets my s—post but the MAGA EMPORER himself!!! I am honored!!" MAGA is an acronym for the President's campaign slogan: Make America great again."
In the phone interview on Tuesday, "HanA**holeSolo" said the White House did not ask his permission to use the GIF, and said he probably would have said no if they had.

"I didn't realize that post would be picked up the way it was, he said. "I should have never even said anything."

Trump has not issued an apology for the tweet, which he sent Sunday morning. Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert said on ABC's This Week that "no one would perceive" the tweet as a threat.

The Committee to Protect Journalists said in a statement this week that the tweet "undermines the work of the media in the U.S. and makes it more dangerous." CNN said in a statement that the tweet "encourages violence against reporters."
On Monday, a senior administration official told CNN that the video was not pulled from Reddit. The White House still has not responded to a series of questions from CNN asking how the video ended up as a tweet from the President.
"HanA**holeSolo" said about the President's tweet, "I think they should have used their better judgment, since the President tweets things off the cuff, it's a kneejerk reaction. I don't feel that they should have posted something like that given the controversy going on between them and the media."

When asked specifically about his other posts that consisted of racist, Islamophobic, and anti-Semitic language and imagery, he answered, "I love people of all races, creeds and origins. One of my best friends is a homosexual and one of my best friends is Jewish and one of my best friends is Muslim."
In his apology on Reddit, "HanA**holeSolo" sent a message to his fellow anonymous posters.
"To people who troll on the Internet for fun, consider your words and actions conveyed in your message and who it might upset or anger," he wrote. "Put yourself in their shoes before you post it. If you have a problem with trolling it is an addiction just like any other addiction someone can have to something and don't be embarrassed to ask for help. Trolling is nothing more than bullying a wide audience. Don't feed your own self-worth based upon inflicting suffering upon others online just because you are behind a keyboard."

‘Extremely Unethical’ — CNN Draws Backlash After Threatening To ID Reddit User Behind Trump’s WWE Video

Peter Hasson
11:27 PM 07/04/2017

CNN sparked a backlash Tuesday night after threatening to identify the Reddit user who claimed to have created a meme of Donald Trump body-slamming the CNN logo that the president later shared on Twitter.

CNN targeted Reddit user HanAssholeSolo because he took credit for the video and apparently had a history of making racist and anti-Semitic remarks online.

CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski opted not to identify the user “because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again.”

But Kaczynski then added that “CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change,” seemingly indicating that CNN would identify the user if he repeats his “ugly behavior” on social media. That sentence was widely interpreted as a threat. Kaczynski, who disputed that characterization, seemed especially upset that the Reddit user “was someone who shared an image of CNN reporters’ face with Stars of David next them.”

Kaczynski stated that the Reddit user’s public apology came after CNN identified and reached out to him. An email to a CNN spokesperson was not immediately returned.

News aggregator Matt Drudge quickly highlighted the story on his site, the Drudge Report, captioning it: “CNN Declines to ID Because He’s ‘Taken Down All Offending Posts.”‘

“Trump was bad. CNN is worse: CNN threatens amateur satirist behind Trump video: make fun of us again and we dox you,” WikiLeaks wrote on Twitter.

“I can’t emphasize how bad this is on CNN’s part,” wrote German Lopez, a reporter for liberal website Vox. “This is basically ‘don’t post stuff we don’t like or we’ll dox you.’ Extremely unethical.”

“That’s essentially blackmail. That’s CNN stating that it will out the guy if he dares to defy their political perspective or offends them sufficiently,” wrote conservative commentator Ben Shapiro wrote. “The whole story is frightening, and obviously an attempt to both nail Trump and discourage people from smacking CNN.”

Others leveled similar criticisms at CNN for the piece, with many using the hashtag #CNNBlackmail, which quickly became the top trending hashtag on Twitter.

Republican congressman Scott Taylor was among those accusing CNN of committing blackmail. “Pretty sure a line is crossed here,” he added.

— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) July 5, 2017

The backlash against CNN’s coverage of an anonymous Reddit user is just the latest in a string of bad publicity for the media company.

CNN recently fired hosts Kathy Griffin and Reza Aslan after each launched off-color attacks on Trump. Griffin held a photo shoot that featured a mock beheading of the president, while Aslan called Trump a “piece of shit.”

CNN was forced to correct and rewrite an anonymously-sourced story that claimed James Comey would debunk Trump’s statement that Comey thrice assured him that he was not under FBI investigation. (Comey confirmed, rather than refuted, Trump’s statement.)

Just weeks later, CNN retracted, deleted and then apologized for, a single-sourced story that claimed Trump adviser Anthony Scaramucci was the subject of investigation as part of the Senate’s Russia probe. Scaramucci reportedly threatened to sue CNN for $100 million if they didn’t retract the story. Two CNN editors and a reporter resigned over their role in the botched story.

Activist James O’Keefe then began releasing a series of undercover videos targeting CNN employees. One CNN producer agreed with Trump’s sentiment that the Trump-Russia stories are largely a “witch hunt,” while another was caught making disparaging comments about White House counselor Kellyanne Conway’s face.

‘CNNBlackMail’ #1 Twitter Trend As Network Threatens to Reveal Reddit User’s Identity

CNN’s public image sank further into the mud last evening as public anger over the network’s recent actions exploded on social media.

3453465.png

“#CNNBlackMail” rose to the top of Twitter’s trending hashtags after the network threatened to reveal the identity of a Reddit user alleged to have created an animated image mocking CNN, which was recently tweeted by President Trump.

In an article which led CNN’s website on the evening of the 4th of July, the network stated that the user had apologized for “the video and other offensive content he posted — one day after CNN identified the man behind the account and attempted to make contact with him.”

In the article, CNN promised not to reveal the user’s name … for now. However, the network made it clear that this was only because “he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again.”

Furthermore, CNN said the network “reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.”

As a result, CNN is now being accused of blackmail from multiple quarters on social media, as #CNNBlackMail became the top trend in the United States.

Multiple commentators condemned CNN, including WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

If CNN’s objective was to stem the tide of gifs and memes ridiculing the network, it has backfired spectacularly, with the #CNNBlackmail hashtag dominated by mockery.

#CNNBlackMail continues to trend.

So let me get this straight.

CNN is a web or cable only news outlet?

No printed media?

Owner has used chipped up newsprint before as "composting media." He seeks always to get the "ideal" combination of organic and biological to make the optimal compost.

But CNN is devoid of all that.

Well, maybe everything except for the BS.

Were I HanA**holeSolo I would have called their bluff - and threaten my lawyers are standing by waiting to "drop a dime."

But I'm not fifteen years old.

Yup. CNN should be chastised for even bringing it up. Had they let it go it would have died a natural death after two days of Internet sensation. As it is the Internet will be tied up for the better part of a week talking about CNN.

Maybe that's the point?

"Hurray-hurray-hurray. Hear and see the worlds strongest human right here at the three ring circus you call CNN."

New Yawk mindset. Almost equal to Trumps.

Here's the thing, after reading page after page of info on this, and then the response and the apology, it just doesn't "fit" a 15 year olds type of language. Nuff said on that.

The responses are coming from not just Trump supporters but even the leftists. The have put aside their "hatred/dislike" of Trump and said it's not about Trump now, it's about every American's right to privacy. A couple of posts say that Reddit was contacted by CNN and they gave CNN the guys personal info. It doesn't matter if the guy is 15 or 115 yrs old...CNN just got caught blackmailing a Citizen of the United States of America.

Kathy Griffin held a bloody Trump head and CNN called it "Artistic"...a guy shows Trump body slamming CNN and they call it a "threat". Go figure.

There is right now an all out retaliation in the works and it's going to get interesting in the next couple of days.

CNN forced private citizens to apologize for making fun of them.

This will not end well for CNN.

CNN 'New Day': CNN Promised Not To Identify Pro-Trump Reddit User If He Apologized; "A Nice Thing"

On Wednesday's edition of CNN's New Day, hosts Chris Cuomo and Alisyn Camerota addressed the apology the network was able to get from the Reddit user behind the gif of President Trump wrestling a CNN image superimposed on WWE founder Vince McMahon. Trump tweeted out the gif and received widespread condemnation from the mainstream media.

"Something remarkable I thought happened yesterday, I thought it was remarkable that CNN found the Reddit user who created the gif of Donald Trump and the wrestling video and where he punches CNN, so the investigative team went back and found the guy who first created this he took credit for it, and then here comes the remarkable part, he apologized. He apologized for having done this," Camerota said.

"This is a very full-throated I think genuine honest apology. He has also asked we not reveal his name or whereabouts and we at CNN are honoring that," the co-host also said.

Notably, CNN decided not to reveal the identity of the Reddit user, HanAssholeSolo, if he issued an apology and promised not to continue publishing racist material. Some political commenters are calling the move by the CNN investigative team extortion. Donald Trump Jr. retweeted Dave Rubin's accusation that CNN extorted a private citizen for legal behavior.

"Don't make a gif or CNN will tell on you!" Rubin tweeted.

Camerota said it was actually the Reddit user that asked CNN not to reveal his name.

"Honestly, the reason I think this is so notable, Chris Cillizza, is because this is a very full-throated I think genuine honest apology," Camerota said. "He has also asked we not reveal his name or whereabouts and we at CNN are honoring that because he's apologized and he thinks he would then be in danger and at risk if other people knew his name. We get it. We understand that. So I don't know, I just think that this is just a very interesting addendum to this whole story."

CNN's 'KFILE' publisher Andrew Kaczynski wrote the network would not be publishing the identity of the user "because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, [that] showed his remorse."

"CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change," Kaczynski warned in his article.

UPDATE (7/4 @ 8:34 AM ET): On Wednesday morning, Kaczynski tweeted out some details of the user: "Need to point out again HanAssholeSolo is a middle aged man. People claiming he's 15 are wrong. Some are intentionally spreading this."

As of 8:30 AM the hashtag #CNNBlackmail was trending on Twitter.

Cuomo deleted a tweet earlier this morning where he asked followers if CNN should reveal the name of the Reddit user. He tweeted: "Should CNN reveal name of Reddit user who made trump wrestling video? Had a lot of bigoted and hateful material on page and website."

CNN contributor Chris Cillizza called the apology that saved the user's name from being revealed a "nice thing."

"It was certainly not the outcome I would have thought once we tracked him down. You know, and I think it's actually a nice thing," Cillizza said of the network's decision.

However, Cillizza said the part of the story that will "get overshadowed" is the White House not revealing where Trump got the wrestling gif from. The CNN commentator acknowledged the G-20 and North Korea would take precedence.

"It was certainly not the outcome I would have thought once we tracked him down. You know, and I think it's actually a nice thing. I would remind people, unless I'm mistaken, I saw quotes coming out of the White House over the weekend saying, this -- Donald Trump did not get this image from Reddit. sSo, where did it come from? I mean, you know, I hate to say it, I think it's almost certain he did, but then why is the White House saying he didn't. I mean, you know, this, you know, this -- I took, sorry, Alisyn, I took a nice thing, which is a guy at least being willing to say I shouldn't have done this," Cillizza said.

"When exposed and identified he then decided to apologize for multiple entries on his account," Cuomo chimed in.

"Good enough," Camerota said.

"But the point is, why is the White House on the record saying that's not where he got it from?" Cillizza asked. "I mean, he had it from somewhere, right? I mean Donald Trump didn't build that gif. I hope. I hope he has better things to do."

"So it came from somewhere. And if this guy is saying yeah, I did it, and it's me, I shouldn't have done it, then why is the White House saying, nope, that's not it. Where did it come from? I mean, I this is going to get overshadowed and probably rightly so, frankly, the G-20, North Korea... but it is just one of the many logical inconsistencies that come out of the White House that there's so many, frankly, that it's hard to cover them all," Cillizza said.

Stefan Molyneux,

thinks that CNN has painted the greatest target on itself EVER.
Molyneux believes that by hunting down and threatening a single person for freedom of speech expression, CNN that is going to attract 10,000 times greater retribution for it's stupidity!

Retribution starting: 16 GIFs. ~1 minute video

Molyneux's ~20 minute summary on CNN open war and counter strike that will occur.

That was hilarious! Started my day out right!

Fake news is already ethically challenged, what is different between being a liar and being a blackmailer. Both are reprehensible behaviors so suit fake stream just fine since they are among the most loathsome of things known to man

CNN is about to learn, just like Shia LaBeouf did, about the weaponized autism of the /Chan networks because it's got all of them seriously PISSED. They don't seem to understand just EXACTLY what they've done yet, but I'd say it's going to be extremely entertaining to watch them learn.

#CnnBlackmail has not let up this morning. In fact I think the tweets have tripled. I believe CNN just committed suicide. I believe CNN just drew their line for the Millennials and generation Z's who love creating these meme's and pushed these kids over to conservatism.
