Child abuser: Obama-supporting teacher bullies soldier’s daughter

This is ghastly. If you are a parent with elementary schoolchildren, you will hit the roof. A teacher in the Asheville, N.C., school system was caught on tape by Finnish documentarians making a film about Barack Obama’s supporters. The teacher, Diantha Harris, uses the classroom as a propaganda vehicle to shove her politics down the children’s throats.

Watch her bully a little girl who dares to answer “McCain” when asked who she supports for president. The child is the daughter of a soldier. Watch the teacher mock the girl and her father (”So that mean yo’ daddy could stay in Iraq for another hundred years!”). Watch the little girl’s eyes well up in tears. Is this the kind of education reform Barack Obama advocates?

This is child abuse plain and simple. The “educator” should be disciplined, fired, forced to apologize publicly, and banned from the classroom. From Belch via Allahpundit:

That POS of an educator should be ashamed of herself! Wasn't SHE just full of herself, standing there as authority figure (GAG) and browbeating a young girl in her charge! I wanted to stand between that young lady and that sorry excuse of a human being that calls itself a teacher and say to that teacher.

Hey momma, comeon, you come and get a piece of ME if you want to throw your weight around. You can bet MY lip won't be quivering. And if I was that girls father and heard about that when I got home. I'd be going to do a little hunting! I'm so friggin MAD I can't even type straight.

Change huh? hey..change THIS!!!:fgr::fgr:

Whoa. She really needs to be fired, but that won't happen. More reason to homeschool. Remember, 0bama wants a Federal program for pre-Kindergarten. What kind of indoctrination do you think will take place there?

If I were raising small children right now, I would homeschool them. If you care about them at all, keep them out of these Marxist indoctrination camps.
I read on Freepers today where some grade school was issuing pledge type cards to kids that made them promise if they saw a homosexual [and all the other GLBTLMNOPQRS, whatever] being 'oppressed' that they would jump in to stop it. Link is: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2127281/posts

Attached is photo of card.....LOVE the subjective nature of determining when to help. Gives all kinds of leeway to all kinds of evil.

Here's to change.....your 'Civilian Security Force' at work.

God save the Republic.

This is one of my PET PEEVES...BULLY teachers...who are sarcastic and almost sadistic at times to children. The children have standards they are held to..the parents as well..but some teachers (there are marvelous teachers out there and I know that ~so not directed at you) think that they can speak to our children however they please, ridicule, harass, embarass and degrade. I have been on the warpath over this.

It infuriates me.

We wonder why so many kids drop out of school and I think this bullying could play a big part in that. But if you complain then your child is blackballed and you are labeled a "problem" parent. Glad they are catching some in the act. blessings T

Personally, were I that child's parent, I'd set up a meeting with the "teacher" and bitch-slap her about 4-5 times. Then I'd ask, "So how does it feel to be an Obama supporter now BITCH?!"

(Yes, I'd go to jail. Happily and proudly.)

Well, she didn't bully-I had a teacher that would get the class together and we would go out to the ballfield. They would form a half circle with thier backs to the school-a sort of human 'privacy fence' and then myself and whatever kid that wanted to step up, well, we could go at it in private. I was not the most favored in class as I had 'Socialization Issues". I am over that now. :dvl1:

I could see it in her face she wanted to really cut loose on the kid tho.

I think it is wrong for anyone to bring their politics., sexual beliefs and other personal issues into the classroom as it is for them to bring it into the workplace.

This is a copy of the letter I just fired off, I hope the schools email system gets overloaded tonite! Before Tuesday, I would have just gnashed my teeth and bitched. not now! not any more. I hear about crap like this and I'm making noise. Probably won't mean a hill of beans, but what the hell, can't just stand by and do nothing. That little girls face really got to me!

]Dear Ms St Claire Atkinson,

As you are by now aware, a video has surfaced on Youtube and other outlets, taken recently by a Finnish documentary crew, showing Ms Harris in her classroom talking with them about politics.

Political discourse is good and our children need to know how our system of government works, but Ms Harris crossed a HUGE line, from education to indoctrination in this film. The comments she made, when students said they were voting for McCain were uncalled for. The way Ms Harris treated that young girl in her class, whose father was serving in our nations armed forces, was in my opinion, child abuse! She berated that poor child, told her that her dad would be in Iraq for a hundred years if McCain was voted in. You could see the tears in that little girls eyes as Ms Harris stood over her, looked down on her and made her pronouncement.

I am a father, and I was teary eyed on that young girls behalf. I had wished I was there to stand between her and your employee, to protect her from the verbal abuse she received at the hands of someone that is supposed to TEACH and not BELITTLE. Diantha Harris's actions were unethical and conduct unbecoming a teacher in my opinion. She should be ashamed of herself and her conduct in front of her students. Ms Harris is a blot on the records of GOOD teachers in this country. To make matters worse, she outright lied in the clip at the end of the video, about what she did.

I hope that she is an unfortunate renegade in your system and not an example of the quality of education in the Asheville school system. This woman needs to be either retrained, or separated from the educational system before she poisons any more young minds.

Interesting that in the interview toward the end, the teacher contends that she wouldn't brow-beat a student.

I find that pretty stunning. I...I can't even begin to guess if she doesn't know what "brow-beat" means, or doesn't realize/is unaware that she was doing it, or if she is just plain lying in the interview. (Though she seemed a bit defensive in the interview, leading me to believe that she knew what she was doing.)

And what is the camera shot of the church building at the end all about? Private school?

CBatt, I'll carry that down to June Atkinson's office personally. I guarantee she will be as pissed about this as we are.

This is harassment and child abuse, and the teacher should be fired as well as have her NC teaching license revoked.

I do wonder what a documentary crew was doing in a public school and why they'd be making a film about Obama in an elementary school????

Disrespect of others self-race/religion/sex/beliefs in this country is at an all time high. Intelligent discourse is becoming scarce. But to see it at this level with babies is so wrong. It is as if she were arguing with adult co-workers not opening young minds and empowering them with freedom. Where are the eloquent African-American speakers of the 60's? The elegant people in their Sunday best showing the world "change"? I was a child then and what you experience as a child never leaves you. What did this lady inspire?

Makes you wonder what these teachers are really saying to their students.

Those kids are so uninterested in politics and even the one girl who spoke well, spouted straight from the party line not learned....just repeated. I think we're seeing the future.

Good, good letter CTFIREBATTCHIEF!

If I'm going to goto jail for that then I'm gonna rip her tongue out of her smug face so she can no longer speak and or good measure cut her hands off in the off chance she learns sign language. Am I pissed? YOU BETCHA!!! This shite has to stop and STOP NOW!! When are parents going to be parents instead of letting the state raise their children? They may wake up... after it too late and their little wunderkid reports them to the PTB for anti-government talk or what have you.

I can't understand why that woman is a teacher, doesn't seem that intelligent to me or even remotely articulate

as an English speaker I can't understand her accent for a kick off, she speaks in an overtly simplistic manner

she is also overweight, bad example to the class

What I've found out so far is that her name is Diantha Harris, and she is no longer employed by the Asheville-Buncombe system. She's teaching in another county.

She's evidently gotten some sort of award for teaching and even met Bush in Washington. I'm betting she's some sort of political twit with tenure that they can't fire.

Waiting to hear from the superintendent's office.

From my sister (also in OK) via IM while discussing this video:

<Child's name who is in 5th grade> brought home a social studies paper Tuesday night. It had questions like, what is the electoral college, what do you do at a polling place... and my favorite: which one of the two major political parties cares about individuals?

I've encouraged her to not just let that slide, but to take that to the principal and the school board.

Unfreakingbelievable.

Forget the principal. They take care of their own.

Call the county superintendent. Faxing it to the local tv station is also a good idea.

Firstly, it was the Cultural Left that pushed the notion that all whites who weren't part of the CL were by definition, racist; and that any critical comment about blacks, no matter how factually based and uttered in bland academic language was racist.

Secondly, the notion of speaking clear coherant language is viewed as "acting white" by large segments of the black community, where the present norm is an often incoherent gibberish called "ebonics". And the number of "eloquent" speakers was never that great anyway, imo.

Thirdly, I suspect that the teacher was part of the usual afrofirmative action hiring in order to satisfy some supposed need for students to see teachers with the same color skin and hair texture that they have, in order for some boost to "self-esteem", rather than hire a competant teacher in the first place, regardless of race.

Teacher's political discussion with students under review

Posted: Today at 11:57 a.m.
Updated: Today at 12:59 p.m.

Fayetteville, N.C. — Cumberland County Schools officials expressed shock and disappointment Friday upon learning of an online video in which a local teacher tells a student her father might be deployed for years because the family supported John McCain for president.

A Scandinavian film crew making a documentary last spring on support for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama captured McArthur Elementary School teacher Diatha Harris talking to her fifth-grade students about Obama and McCain.

When one girl said she was backing McCain because her parents were, Harris responded, "Oh Lord." She later called the war in Iraq "senseless" and told the girl that McCain planned to keep U.S. troops in Iraq for 100 years, if necessary.

"That means your daddy could stay in the military for another 100 years," Harris told the girl, who silently bit her lip.

The video, posted on YouTube.com and misidentifying Harris as an "Ashville N.C. school teacher," quickly made the rounds on conservative blogs, with many bloggers calling Harris a child abuser and demanding that she be fired.

Harris couldn't be reached Friday for comment.

School district officials learned of the video late Thursday and were investigating the matter to determine if any disciplinary action was warranted, spokeswoman Wanda McPhaul said.

"While neutral discussion of the political process is appropriate, at no time, particularly with elementary students, should a teacher infuse his (or) her political views into the discussion," Superintendent William Harrison said in a statement issued Friday. "Most disconcerting was the military slant that made its way into this discussion. We are a military community, serving over 15,000 military students and their families. We value the sacrifices, not only of the military parents but also those of their families.

"I was particularly disturbed to see the uncomfortable position in which our children were placed due to the inappropriate actions of one of our teachers," he said.

Officials discussed the matter with the girl and her parents, who said they weren't upset about the exchange with Harris, according to McPhaul. The parents said the girl had a good experience in Harris' class last year, she said.
