We've had some new members register in the last coupla days.

Coincidence?

The preceding year had only 12ish registrations.

Wow, that's an eye opening number.
Have no problem with the changes on my end. Keep up the good work guys and gals.

As I stated elsewhere in this thread, that is not an accurate number. Millwright only counted the new members who actually posted in the New Member thread. I didn't go back and count how many new members we had last year, but just since Jan 1 of this year we've had 37 (and that's not counting old members who have been reactivated). Of that number, 12-15 or so have never posted, which makes me wonder if our emails are not reaching people or if they're really not that interested. In fact, there's a stretch of 7 or 8 in a row that I enrolled in a couple of days earlier this month that have never posted. Makes me wonder...

Socks? Be interesting to track how many of such eventually do post but only do it to have access to members only sections and/or wind up being banned for being trolls. Is there a mechanism to determine if the emails are actually valid or to auto-deactivate if they haven't responded/posted within a certain time frame/probationary period? If the email they give isn't legit you know they are fake accounts and you have to wonder just why they would do that. (sarcasm is difficult for me to convey in a post).

If the email isn't legit, my response to it would bounce back and I haven't had that happen. Socks may be a good guess. Also, with the new email server (or whatever it is) most of the emails are coming in marked as spam, even when they are requests to join. I didn't realize until one of the responses told me that my email to them was also marked that way, so that may be a problem too. I just have to make sure what it says when I respond and take that spam heading off and hope it stays off.

Oh, and there isn't an auto-deactivate available, but once a year or so I do go through manually and delete those who haven't posted.

I thought there was some kind of "click to activate account" message sent to the provided email address.

Another thought is lurkers could be reserving an option to get in if the board gets busy and shut-off to non-members.

No one gets into the Bomb Shelter until they reach 100 posts.

My mistake. I thought there were other "member only" sections where you had to be signed in to view. No biggie to be honest, it is just extremely interesting to see such drastic change in the year over year stats. On the other hand I was also unaware that a member could be deactivated without a ban from the admins. Good grief, after my extended absence I guess I'm lucky no one got around to doing such. Which, in case anyone is wondering, had nothing to do with personality conflicts with other members but was a result of real life slapping me in the head pretty doggone hard.

I may not post as much as previously, but that doesn't mean I ever stopped thinking about the folks on TB2K. I just had to pull back on my internet presence (for reasons I've mentioned in other posts) and because my commitment/time/energy had to go into real life.

Thanks for still being here; membership and admins alike.

Thanks for taking the time to explain Deena. By the way, your original invite - which feels like eons ago - is why I came here in the first place. LOL

I'll throw in 2 more cents, for whatever it's worth.
I'm not a fan of censorship, I made my point pretty clear early in this thread. BUT-I understand, and the population voted to ban the word. It was a democratic poll, and was done fairly. I'll go with the vote. And I actually like the idea of getting rid of the lady bashing. NOT COOL in my book.
And if I've offended in the past by using the word in question. I apologise. I'm a rough diamond in that respect, sometimes you can't take me anywhere.

For the good of the family is the way I take this. And TB2K at the end of the day is family. Let's see what happens.

You haven’t really been here long enough to know the full history here, though 5 years is not bad.

ETA: Further, you, as well as several others, have actively chosen to ignore the base reason for these changes. I’m thankful that neither you nor they are running this place. You all simply lack the skill and an understanding of what’s involved.

Yes, this works. If a human feels overly compelled to use the word - he still can AND BE A STAR - actually six of them!

And yes - everyone will know EXACTLY what he was saying. Without having to say the word except in their mind.

So if Owner, heathen that he is, comes on here and starts writing about eating "****** Toes" we'll still know he's talking about Brazil Nuts?

Sorry - above sentence was a test of the Emergency Snowflake System.

I'm good with it. I agree with any change which encourages discourse.
