WEATHER CATEGORY 2 HURRICANE IN GULF OF MEXICO 6-16-2018?

This could have been a teachable moment if the powers that be had used it for the old "72 hours worth of stuff," spiel. They didn't. As usual, they went with the keep the sheeple calm. So, what will happen if/when a category 2 storm hits Houston after the experts said it won't happen? The next time people will simply ignore them. As usual, the implication in the article is "oh look, our valiant government employees are being overwhelmed by aluminum foil wearing, black helicopter believing, armed militia fruitcakes.

You would think after Harvey, they would be taking a potential hurricane more seriously.

There is no "potential hurricane".

They are giving it all the consideration it deserves, which is to say none at all.

If and when a real storm develops, they will then report it like they always do.

Neither here nor there.
Gang, we had an official alert go out in Salem related to contaminated water last week. THE STORES WERE STRIPPED BARE WITHIN THE FIRST NINETY MINUTES.

The conventional, "we have 72 hours," is no longer valid in my view. You have, at best, two hours after any kind of "official" information, before the Sheeple stampede and descend on grocery stores, gas stations etc like a horde of locusts and strip store shelves bare.

Here are a few pictures to motivate people!:ld:

With social media I'd lessen that time to about 15 to 20 minutes!

Doomer Doug:
Here is the link to the Gulf of Mexico satellite view. It shows a completely different picture. In the wind chart, you have clear signs of a circular motion off the Texas coast, but in the satellite view the coast off of Texas is clear.

The satellite picture in that link is from 2015.

They've never said that at all.

They've stated people need to be prepared to go at least 72 hours on their own.
It has nothing to do with how long you have to get prepared.

This really isn't complicated stuff to understand.

Have you ever been anywhere near a hurricane at all?

They're not here. They're not coming.

Next weekend, anyway :D

I just looked at the Ventusky models.

The TS/hurricane prediction is no longer there.

Someone else might double check, tho.

No, no, no...it may not. I have surgery in Dallas on Friday, drive home that night, and then have to be back on Tuesday for post-op check up. It is a LONG way to go in a storm.

It is welcome to rain on Wednesday the 20th, and for the rest of the week after that.

The “heat high” that has had our forecast on lockdown is shifting north.

This opens the door for deep moisture to push into South Texas.

It may also allow for a rainmaker, with abundant tropical moisture to drift into the Lone Star State.

Once it arrives, scattered, tropical downpours will be around as early as Saturday evening, but more so into Sunday and Monday.

TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT

The disturbance that is forecast to move into Texas has been flagged by the National Hurricane Center.

Only slow development is anticipated as it moves into the warm Gulf of Mexico waters.

Should the system organize, it could change the area’s potential for rain, with a more localized flooding potential.

A more organized storm could actually mean less rain for South Texas. Stay tuned for updates.

Glad it's nothing after all. The power of prayer really helps.

Truly! We're forecasted at the moment to get 1-2 inches of rain Sun-Mon....we can really use that rain, especially if it's the nice, gentle all-day rain that stays in the pastures and doesn't run off.

Today, we're reaping the benefits of the remnants of Bud. An inch and a half, so far. Only downside is the muddy paw prints all over the house! So thankful for the rain!
