This is a critical weekend ... the remainder coming off the list ... Louise off the list ... statistically less likely ... right in the middle of a hot zone ...

We don't have any test that we expect to be positive right now ... do you think community is overreacting? I think community has been outstanding ... common sense, compassion ... always a few outliers who panic ... that's ok for people to have a panic reaction ... it's a scary disease ... taking children out of school a day or two is ok but ...weeks becomes a problem ... says something about stigmatizing the HCW families

"Judge" way overexposed. He will probably start vomiting during a presser.

I think he was given a vaccine or the "cure". I think the reason he looked so freaked that one time is becaus he was wondering if it would actually work.

Will suck to be him if he hasn't been given any of the above.

Thanks for reporting on the conference, helen---I missed the start of it--am listening now

Wonder if anyone's heard of Dr. (he has to go) Varga since that last news conference in which he was a little "TOO" forthcoming???

Is the guy talking the "judge" or Dr. Varga?

There's no one working around patients ... HCW heroes are worried they may have ebola, they worked on Nina and Amber since they were already exposed ... shows level of commitment ... the person seeing you is not our monitor list ...

With Nina it was at 11:15 ... extremely concerned ... with Amber I had an idea she would test positive ahead of time due to a test ... not an ebola test ...

When does timeline officially end? some two days ago, others today ... for others already today ... other roll off Sunday ... all gone by midnight Sunday

Trust me......you've got a lot of company! lol
I can go 6-8 months at a time without drinking a drop of alcohol. But reading these Ebola threads has brought out the Irish and Italian in me, and I'm nursing a small glass of boysenberry wine with my lunch. (Not driving anywhere for days, so I'm perfectly safe.)

God help me, I might just turn into an alcoholic before this epidemic kills me.

We had to be careful .. .when we go beyond what science dictates ...shut down a school because a child is a contact of a contact ... ripple effect ... absenteeism ... a lot of fear ... you've got 7 million people in combined metro area ... we need to follow science, be concerned, but follow science ... if you did not come into contact with the fluids of Eric Duncan or some other symptomatic person you do not have ebola ...

Oh God what a STUPID question from one of the reporters--

WHAT DAY WILL THE SCARE BE OVER?

(of anyone getting ebola secondarily from Duncan)

Try NEVER........

helen

Panic Sex Lady
The day Amber isolated ... the calendar day before she tested positive ... around midnight Friday night, go 21 days from there ... any contact she had would have been before she isolated ... I shouldn't guess... it might be after 21 days after Nina and Amber left our facility ...

how much fluid there was ... 2-3 weeks ...

helen

Panic Sex Lady
People should not hesitate going to the hospital ... no one is being treated for ebola here .. .no reason to not come here ...

what about new ebola patients? ... why (I can't hear the question) ... we came to a conclusion that we wanted to remove from public spaces the HCW ... if symptomatic ... on a cruise ship and becomes ill and the virus is in body fluids ... we have to get them off the cruise ship ...

How many contacts ... three isolation units ... my goal is to have no more than one person in that room ... intaking and sending away from Presby right now... Bethesda, Emory, Montana, the next group today would be UTA Galveston

(something?) he's being monitored...

They were ... Nina downgraded to Fair ... Amber is ... she's stable ...

#BREAKING #Dallas transit spox retracts statement that ill passenger was on #Ebola list. http://thescoopblog.dallasnews.com/...n-temporarily-closed-saturday-afternoon.html/Why say that, then? #fail

2:28 pm on October 18, 2014

*snip*

Updated at 2:54 p.m.: DART spokesman Morgan Lyons sent the following email statement to The Dallas Morning News about the White Rock station closure:

The person being treated by Dallas Fire Rescue at White Rock Station is NOT on any Ebola watchlist. She is being treated by DFR as a person who is ill. Updated reports indicate she got off a northbound train at the station and vomited on the platform. There are no indications of any biohazards or spills on any vehicle she has used. We are inspecting the train and the platform and will clean the facility and vehicle as needed consistent with our protocol.

She is living in same apartment building as Duncan

She is living in same apartment building as Duncan

She wasn't on a list? Somehow that doesn't set me at ease. I would have thought anyone in that building would have been watched. There sure seems to be a lot of spewing in a lot of places.

The Indian woman who was walking as Jose power-washed the sidewalk?

Start disinfecting your insides with the liquor right now!

Panic Sex Lady will join you in a toast to good health ...

EXCELLENT Suggestion! We should all toast...before we ARE toast.

BTW...this is closing weekend on the Texas State Fair (which that line connects to) and a GORGEOUS Texas afternoon. LOTS of people would be riding that rail....

Called this one when Duncan was a new story: Apartments like his, where floods of new immigrants stay while they're getting settled, will have many people in them who aren't on the landlords' lists.

This story today, the woman who threw up at the train station, was one such person. A resident -- later the story changed to no, not a resident, but a visitor for some days some time back at the apartments.

She may have something other than Duncan's illness, but does display fever and vomiting.

http://www.wfaa.com/story/news/health/2014/10/18/ebola-dart-station-dallas-monitoring/17503345/

DALLAS — Officials now say that a woman who fell ill at the Dallas Area Rapid Transit White Rock Station Saturday afternoon is not known to be a part of any Ebola watch list.

DART spokesman Morgan Lyons said the person exited a northbound Blue Line train at the station and spit on the platform. She was earlier reported by DART to have been on a list of individuals being monitored for the often deadly illness. The woman was said to have a low-grade fever at the transit facility in Northeast Dallas.

Lyons initially said that the woman was reported to be a resident of the same Dallas apartment complex where Ebola "patient zero" Thomas Eric Duncan became ill after traveling to the U.S. from Liberia. It was later determined that while she did stay there for a few days some time ago, she was not a resident of that complex.

Duncan died on October 8 and two nurses who treated him are now being treated for the virus.

The woman in Saturday's incident was being taken to a hospital for an evaluation.

Hazardous materials teams from the fire department were dispatched to the station at 7333 East Northwest Highway, which serves the Blue Line trains along with connecting bus routes. Emergency personnel were wearing protective gear.

"She's the sixth person who's thrown up at a DART facility today," said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. "That is just part of public transportation that I was unaware of, but that does happen."

DART said White Rock Station would be closed to bus and rail service until further notice; trains scheduled to stop at the station will not stop there until the situation is resolved.

Lyons said the train used by the customer would be removed from service "and cleaned consistent with our established protocols for cleaning hazardous materials."

On Friday, DART said two of its employees "have been connected with persons who have been exposed to or are carrying the Ebola virus." The transit agency said both employees are considered low risk by the Centers for Disease control because neither had direct contact with any known Eolba patients."

****

Question: Is this not unusual? Six in one day? I remember from school with hundreds of students milling about we'd go much longer than days between incidents.

Interesting how much disruption comes from such a small incident, isn't it? Had to shut down the station.

I wonder if there is any way to contain this thing at all. Given the number of illegal occupants I've seen both from Vietnam during the old days and Lebanon after their civil war, I'd guess that it's at least 3:1 "guests" to "residents" and there is no way, yet, to determine how many are contagious now.

The CDC and its so called "low risk status for Ebola" is a bunch of BS. BOTH OF THE NURSES WHO GOT INFECTED BY DUNCAN WERE CLASSIFIED AS LOW RISK FOR EBOLA INFECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The lady as I understand lived in the Ivy Apartment Complex where Duncan was staying. Now if the CDC is to believed the five Duncan family members who were in the same apartment are not infected, but this lady who lived in the same APARTMENT COMPLEX was low risk; yet, now is potentially showing symptoms.

The main reason the CDC is directly restricting information is they are starting to realize two things.

One is their currently mandated Ebola treatment and equipment protocols for medical workers will cause them to be infected by Ebola.

Two is the "low risk status" is MEANINGLESS NOW.

Keep your eyes on this case, gang because IF she gets Ebola confirmed infected it means everybody who lived in the Apartment complex is now at risk.

Again, how the Duncan family members exposed in the apartment can avoid infection, but this person who just lived in the complex may have gotten infected is beyond me. It means the CDC has NO IDEA of who, where, how or why people get infected with Ebola.

DD, they will report her death from other causes, as need be. Move along...

Okay, out on a limb here but these people cannot be that stupid, right? Seriously? Just because they aren't on a frelling 'list' doesn't mean that they didn't come in contact with someone who was in contact with someone, ad nausem. I hope Clay Jenkins is the next victim.

I don't understand what notified them that she had a fever. Lots of people walk around with a fever and you'd never know. Even if they could tell she was sick, how did they figure out she was one that was quarantined? Is she freely telling people that she was quarantined?

My first thoughts exactly....

Stayed inside and finally got a fever and headed straight out the door to where there are a lot of people and then announced, I am from the Ivy Apartments AND I AM SICK? She is so sick that people started pointing and authorities of some sort approached her and asked, "Have you been to Africa recently?" Stayed inside for almost 21 days to "protect people" and then went stir crazy? None of it makes sense.

I agree. Unless this virus is sentient and only comes out to play when new 'friends' appear.

CM, I am thinking this Ebola Czar is going to go down like Admiral Kimmel and General Short took the fall for Pearl Harbor. The man clearly isn't too smart in my opinion. If he was, he would realize Obama is setting him up to fall on the sword. LOL

Besides, he was what, the chief of staff for Al Gore. LOL

I am thinking, gang the Obama Administration is starting to realize and comprehend the political implications of the open border policies, in the context of a potential mass death Ebola epidemic in the USA, just before the November 4th elections.

Of course, we can always hope and pray Obama gets Ebola from all his PC hugging. <G> Now if we could only get that fool Biden at the same time we might have a chance of sealing our borders.

I am thinking the political pressure to lay mine fields on the Mexican border is going to be overwhelming by Christmas.

Doug:

Mexico hasn't had ONE case, and neither has Canada. The only borders we need to concern ourselves with, at the moment, are the entry points at every United States airport!

It occurs to me that Mexico, which is protecting its population from overseas traffic, might find find that AMERICANS have decided to... ahem... holiday there for an indeterminate period of time. Makes sense to me.
