Also, at state and county fairs I've fun across a tent that is full of vintage/nostalgic candies. Just barrels of the stuff.

These websites might be fun to look through:

That's the way I live.

71 so far so good - knock on wood.

Brach's made my absolute favorite - Malted balls. Haven't seen them for years.

Finally found some that are just about as good - going there today - Nifty Nut House Wichita.

The Nifty Nuthouse is awesome! They do have a website and will ship.

Christmas one year, I got my grandma a box of 1930s candy. She went through that entire box, pulling out each item in turn and just in general acting blown away by how MUCH there was in there. Something like this:

Last I saw the Brach's Royals was several years ago before I changed to doing all of my grocery shopping online back in early 1990. The bulk candy section still had them. The packaged section did not.

I really miss the peanut butter taffy chews that had in the fall. None of the other brands are anywhere near as tasty.

BTW, diabetics can still have some sweets as long as they don't get stupid about it. I'm diabetic and lost a toe to gangrene almost 20 years ago. My blood glucose was totally out of control at the time. I got serious about my control and my A1C is around six, which is normal for a non-diabetic. Anything under a seven is considered good control for a diabetic. Yes, I eat some sweets every day. I just eat them in moderation instead of "pigging out" on them. It makes keeping my diet under control much easier because I don't feel deprived. And no, I haven't lost any more appendages, even though the surgeon swore he would be seeing me again in under a year.

I have known several people who were not willing to get serious about their diabetic control. After multiple amputations they are all dead. Do you live to eat, or eat to live? The choice is yours.

Their Bakery/Store always had FREE samples! And you could purchase a bag of BROKEN cookies for a very low price! I wouldn't have cared if they were bakery floor sweepings, lol!

I didn't live far from Harlem ave in those days!
We would buy the bags of broken cookies. My favorites were the kind with the jelly in the middle.

Brach’s has discontinued many of their popular originals. Every year more disappear.
If we're talking about confection addictions, mine in order of potential severe issues caused by over consumption are:
1. Nanaimo Bars - mostly a CDN thing
2. Sea Salt, Dk. Choc, Caramel chunks.
3. My SIL's cobbler

I've managed to wean myself from pretty much everything else sweet

Sorry about thread-jacking away from Brach's but that's a brand I don't recall in Canuckistan.

With the first of the many sales, the quality of many of the Brach's candies went down. Blasted bean counters. With each additional change of ownership thing went further downhill. It is a crying shame. They used to have several of the best candies available. You knew if it was Brach's that it was good quality.

I remember those caramels (though I hate raspberry). My mom always used to get them around Christmas time; they were so colorful. Nowadays, our candy treat is real dark chocolate salted caramels. Pricey, so not a chance of overindulging in those, lol.

Brachs makes (or made; I don't know if they still use the same recipe) the BEST lemon drops. I'm very prone to car sickness, so for years, every road trip I'd get a bag of their lemon drops and put them into a resealable container for the car. For a medical assist (on top of motion sickness med), of course.

(These days I've switched to a tin of these candies, either their pink grapefruit, or another of their flavors: https://www.amazon.com/Torie-Howard-Organic-Grapefruit-Tupelo/dp/B008D8AA1K The tin is compact, saves me the work of transferring the candies to a container, and the candies are tasty and do the job (which is basically having something sweet/sour to suck on).)

For a while, for a quick sugar boost while hiking I'd also bring along some of Werther's coffee caramel hard candies (which is kind of funny, as I am not a coffee drinker - I only like a tiny bit of it, sometimes, as candy or ice cream). (But I couldn't always get those, so I later switched to small individual bags of the regular M&Ms (which you can find everywhere) for that purpose... )

If they made some of these candies with erythritol/monkfruit (not other sugar substitutes, especially not aspartame), I'd be willing to try them.
