This too shall pass.
Actually, I had to look up how to pronounce Keynes, but it would have taken her all of two minutes to do the same.

It's John Maynard Keynes.

She's getting him confused with Milton Friedman, another economist.

Probably wouldn't know how to pronounce that one either.

The hilarious thing is she appears so earnest with her bug-eyes and everything, and she hasn't the slightest clue how ignorant she is.

Who said this? Was it Alexandra Ocasio-Tlaib?

Isn't her 15 minutes of fame over, yet?

She needs to go back to serving beverages. Anything else is above her pay grade.

Basically JMK was referring to increased productivity. One could future work but 15 hours and create the same wealth as one might working 40 hours in a less productive era. That is if the value of that work was constant.

Failed to mention is Inflation reducing the value of what one earns while simultaneously (and artificially) increasing the GDP numbers. So while one might work the 15 hours to make the dollar number, the dollar value earned is less.

JMK also failed to appreciate the "market" for that Gross Domestic Product. Like any commodity, Product (even of the GDP kind) has value based on the marketplace. An Increased GDP reduces the value of the GDP in "law of supply & demand" inverse.

So both AOC AND JMK were full of, um, agricultural amendment.

Not an economist but appreciates the concept of "time value of money" - and the use of money as a storehouse for human effort.

ALSO recall the AOC is a believer in MMT - Modern Monetary Theory.

Economy Government & Policy
Modern Monetary Theory (MMT)

By Deborah D'Souza
Updated Sep 24, 2019

What is Modern Monetary Theory?
Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) is a heterodox macroeconomic framework that says monetarily sovereign countries like the U.S., U.K., Japan and Canada are not operationally constrained by revenues when it comes to federal government spending. In other words, such governments do not need taxes or borrowing for spending since they can print as much as they need and are the monopoly issuers of the currency.

MMT challenges conventional beliefs about the way the government interacts with the economy, the nature of money, the use of taxes and the importance of budget deficits. These beliefs, supporters say, are a hangover from the gold standard era and are no longer accurate, useful or necessary. /snip/

Is that one where the invisible hand makes everything work?
No that was Adam Smith and Keynes believed it worked only at full employment.

Martin Armstrong has a recent book Manipulating the World Economy that outlines MMT (Dozdoats above references).

In my view Keynes had Socialist/Communist leaning thinking that the Government could control the monetary system and therefore control the ups and downs, business cycle. I do not agree.

One could make the argument that for the past 100+ years the banksters through the magic of inflation have stolen from the American people the wealth generated from technologically driven productivity increases.

Dobbin beat me to it but with a more eloquent response.

Labour came up with the 4 day week as part of their manifesto as well as unlimited free everything for everyone.

What do we have on the left's headline agenda worldwide:

4 day week
Climate change
Immigration
Racism
Sexism
Islamophobia
LGBT
Free benefits paid for by the taxpayer
Underlying all these is nationalisation of everything necessitating massive increases in taxation

It is John Maynard Keynes pronounced canes
Milton Keynes, the town in the UK is pronounced keens

She ought to read up on Milton Friedman. Maybe she'd learn something useful.

Occasio and her buddy Omar will be out on their keisters come next November.

Keep working Americans. US being one of the largest average work-week in the civilized world.

The title may need to be updated. AOC will be getting an economics education now. Michelle Caruso-Cabrera besides having been an Anchor for CNBC is a member of the Board of Directors of a financial services firm, Beneficient. Milton Keynes was the last straw? Can't wait for the debates!

Former CNBC Anchor Caruso-Cabrera to Challenge Ocasio-Cortez for Congress

What to Know
  • Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, CNBC's former chief international correspondent, filed for a primary challenge to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
  • Caruso-Cabrera is seeking to unseat the progressive leader who shocked the political establishment with her 2018 election
  • CNBC said Caruso-Cabrera will no longer appear on their air now that she is a candidate
Former CNBC anchor Michelle Caruso-Cabrera will challenge progressive leader Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her Bronx-Queens seat in Congress, she said on Tuesday.

Caruso-Cabrera told CNBC she will make a primary bid for the seat, which Ocasio-Cortez won in a political earthquake in 2018. The congresswoman, popularly known as AOC, has become a leader of the progressive movement in the Democratic party in her year in Washington.

It was not immediately clear why Caruso-Cabrera, who left her full-time CNBC role in 2018, had decided to take on Ocasio-Cortez.

But her 2010 book, "You Know I'm Right: More Prosperity, Less Government," is a paean to limited government and fiscal conservatism -- a stance that puts her well to the right of AOC, even within the Democratic Party.

“I am the daughter and granddaughter of working class Italian and Cuban immigrants,” Caruso-Cabrera said in a statement. “I am so lucky to have had such a wonderful career and I want everybody to have the opportunity that I’ve had. That’s why I’m running.”

CNBC said in a story posted on its website that Caruso-Cabrera would no longer appear as a contributor on the network.

This is a developing story.

CNBC and this station are both units of NBCUniversal.

Doesn’t AOC have a degree in Economics or some such thing...

AOC’s Primary Education Major 2 is economics. It appears that Ocasio-Cortez has a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in both International Relations and Economics.

-- So, Does AOC Really Have an Economics Degree From Boston University?

LOL well the Intel scholarship that paid for her education was certainly wasted.

Guess all of us who use computers with Intel chips actually paid a pittance towards her ed-a-u-cation in communism ... errrr economics and international relations ...

… even if it was 1 one thousandth of a penny, I feel cheated, don't you?

I never took a formal economics class in my life :D So in academic terms I know less about economics than AOC does....
