PREP Anybody else now doing some expedited preparation shopping?

I realize that here at Timebomb we are addicted to doom porn:kaid: and see the end of the world on a monthly basis, but I have to say personally I have not felt the level of chaos around me, and the need for me to ramp up my preps in response to that feeling. It has been a long time since I dropped whatever I was doing and went out and bought a pile of canned food, ammo, and other stuff. That was in October of 2018, and between then and now, I have been pretty mellow. However, in the last 72 hours I have been getting a very bad feeling from the spirit. Some of it is personal, as in I have now fallen three times in the last ten days, when I haven't fallen in YEARS. Next, I am just now finishing John Wesley Rawles Patriot series. I have about 70 pages left on Liberators. At any rate, I just spent $60 on food, and this being after I just spent my $182 in food stamps over the last two weeks. I haven't been motivated to do that kind of spending for years now.

Again, I am about as well prepped as anybody can be living in downtown Portland, but I just took it to the next level, as in buying nearly 50 cans of various stuff in the last 24 hours.

Am I just doom porning out, or is the fact China is now showing kill Americans movie, and Iran just told Trump to $%%% off mean we are now facing a global crisis?

Yup, I’m there with you. I’ve ordered a ton of Mountain House, Emergency Essentails, etc..freeze dried food and tons of canned goods. I’ve also ordered 3 more 55 gallon water storage barrels. Solar Lanterns, batteries, pet food, cleaning products, face masks, fish antibiotics, and on and on.

I feel bad for my friend that has to do most of the organizing of this stuff on my behalf.

Went to the store yesterday for our normal needs of fresh goods. I listen to the news and say, here we go again but not enough to warrant a huge spending spree. I got over that stuff years ago. I always buy extra of certain things anyway. Been doing that for years but we don't like canned food and I am not putting in any dozens of cans of things we probably wouldn't eat anyway. I hate throwing dated stuff away because it was bought, "just in case".......

How many other countries have told us to f off? Many........ no, not time yet.

Doug, the answer from this household is yes. The kitchen shelves are already groaning from the weight of canned goods stored; this past weekend we went psycho and now there's no more counter space because we went to town buying canned goods.

The amount of doom seeping through is more like a flood in the past few days; and we've been stocking up.

Lets just say the black helicopter count drives my motivation.....

I have been feeling the doom for more than a couple weeks now and have upped my preps a considerable amount. Just yesterday I spent the whole day building additional shelving in all my homestead structures. Now I will start buying and filling those new spots.

Yes. You're in the belly of the beast, as a vet, iirc, you probably feel this ramp up to war on an even more personal level. Your older and less able today than yesterday. The urge to DO runs strong in us, and some times shopping is all we can do. Rather like the rosary beads, we turn to something to worry at and exert control over.

And then there's that pesky lil detail of having the doom fever deep down in your bones. Breathe. Nice. Slow. Deep listen to your little voice., Hhave you forgotten something? What's the falling about? Medical condition that's ongoing, something new with additional symptoms? General klutziness?

Im not all doomagedden ing here. Far too calm...shut down. Compartmentalized. Been feeling that the summer will be sporty? Hot? Interesting? However, not nesting much over it.

Dated stuff, in many cases, is still good for some time after that date. If it isn’t rusted, leaking, bulging, or spits when you open it, it should be good. Listen to the advice of others here, as well. Food banks will often take cans of soup and such past their date.

AlfaMan, what are the pizza and parking lot numbers looking like? Are the buildings packed and lunchtime cancelled? Helicopters already took the VIPs to their hidey holes? All quiet or still frazzled?

I'm not freaking out. I'm not even worried, but I did make a few extra purchases that I'd put off for a while. This just feels different this time.

I feel some anxiety over the saber rattling in the Persian Gulf, but haven’t turned that to any real action yet. Gave our son three cans of Mountain House to take on his camping trip out west, so getting that caught up. Made a few minor additions to our defensive capability, but not a big deal. If I was sure it would be hitting the fan soon, there is a long list of to-do’s to work on. Guess I’m not there yet. And...I’m feeling old. Things hurt everyday and reduce my energy level for getting stuff done.

I decided to add a little more tp, dish soap, cat litter -- type stuff to the pantry to bring the totals up to a year's worth. I have enough space, and given how stuff is just going sky-high, it won't hurt. I normally wait until September-October to do this, but I'm feeling a "nudge" that this is a good idea right now.

Sad to say but the famous Pentagon Pizza index has gone kauput. Something about a pizza place now inside the actual Pentagon, and the Pentagon figuring out people were using that metric.

I should say I have now tripped three times in the last two weeks. Once was due to a hole in the street, and the second was due to a hole in the sidewalk, and the third was I tripped on the stairs going to the second floor of the library here. At any rate, I think it has more to do with decaying infrastructure than any health issues I have. Still, my gut is telling me some serious #%%% is going to happen, possibly starting in the next few days/weeks, and certainly over the summer.

Here is a link where Britain, that military midget these days, is threatening Iran with a time out period.:lkick:

Britain warns Iran of retaliation from U.S. amid rising tensions, recent aggression

OAN Newsroom
UPDATED 10:15 AM PT — Monday, May 20, 2019

Britain is warning Iran against provoking the White House. On Monday, U.K. officials said the U.S. would be ready with a counter-strike if Tehran moved to attack American interests.

Tensions between Washington and the Muslim nation hit new highs, following reports of attacks on U.S. troops in the Middle East.

CONSIDERING THE CURRENT STATE OF THE BRITISH MILITARY I THINK THE RESPONSE FROM IRAN WILL BE HYSTERICAL LAUGHTER.

DD - just an aside to your tripping. My personal trainer (who is also a physical therapist) helped me to get over my own difficulties me having me consciously lift my feet higher when walking, since as I got older my muscles had become somewhat lax. (I've remedied that issue too now, though.) He had me do stretching every morning especially piriformis - which also will address sciatica. The increased range of motion over the past year has helped enormously and I literally never trip anymore. I hope this helps; just google up some piriformis stretching. My favorite is to have my legs up on a wall at 90 degrees, then cross one leg over to make a 'figure 4' over the other leg and press down on the knee. It did take a while to even get that far but really, really worth the time and effort.

Mosey over to the BS in "that" thread. You will see. You may not want to see, but it will answer your questions.

I don't have a feeling of impending doom, however, due to our almost four day power outage, I'm seeing some holes that need to be filled. I noticed some foods that quick and easy I had used the last of, so I'm refilling those spots. And if a particular thing I know is from China that I'm low on I'm stocking up and bit and will look for alternatives.

I've been adding a couple cans here, a couple there for a while now. Went to WM today and noticed the shelves are FULL. I added more rice, pasta and a few more cans. I can last about 3 months now. The rest I depend on God for.

Naw. I live in a city where Hispanics are in the vast majority. If there is a crisis on that level, I am pretty sure I will eventually be dead. I will leave anything I have to my daughter's family and hope they make it out alive.

Beefing up a bit here...

We've been prepping for years, which has just becomes a lifestyle, rather than a "storm is coming" action. For the most part we're in ok shape, which I know is easy to say before everything actually hits the fan.

That said, we had a discussion within the last 3 or 4 weeks about me backing off of the hours I work, which can be brutal, but worth it financially. Essentially what we decided is that I should stick with it at least until the weather turns for another winter, and take care of some significant needs, wants and maintenance issues before having this discussion again. Last of the good old days kind of feeling I guess.

I dunno, Doug... October was barely 7 months ago.

Some of it is personal, as in I have now fallen three times in the last ten days, when I haven't fallen in YEARS. Next, I am just now finishing John Wesley Rawles Patriot series. I have about 70 pages left on Liberators.

Are you SURE the two aren't related? I know from experience that little can get me more motivated to stock up (or at least get me to thinking and making lists) than a well written piece of doomer fiction.

At any rate, I just spent $60 on food, and this being after I just spent my $182 in food stamps over the last two weeks. I haven't been motivated to do that kind of spending for years now.

As long as it's food that will keep awhile, and you didn't use part of the rent check to buy it, I don't see a problem.

I'm not feeling it, personally. Very busy getting gardens planted, and all the associated Spring work. Spent 6 hours today helping pick rocks off a newly planted field of oats... that will help you feel your age in a hurry. Thankful for my Ouch liniment tonight, I can tell you! I did do a fairly major shopping run last week... filled in some hokes, including adding to the .22 mag ammo stash... given a choice, I prefer tgat rifle to any other. Powerful enough to take down a horse or cow with a well-placed head shot, and very, very accurate. Also, relatively quiet.

We do need a few more things if TS was about to HTF... kerosene and more salt blocks come to mind. Both could be easily taken care of locally if necesary, but are st the top of the list for my next trip to the nearest small city.

On those falls... unless there was a very good reason (a slippery object in your way, tripped over the cat, etc) you might want to consider chatting with your medical provider soon. Falling unexpectedly without reason *could* indicate a potentially serious medical issue, from an inner ear problem to mini-strokes. Take care of yourself!

Gardening like a madwoman, in between rainy days. I shovel turned a plot myself over 7 hours and got tomatoes, cages staked, tripod pole beans, sweet peas in. Soon as its dry enough, going to do couple rows of potatoes. I feel it too, that this winter was unnatural, that the spring is late, that the summer will be cool. So triple amount of plants to try to boost yield. Got another window box today for salad greens. I may put in some more tomatoes this week.

My gut says its going to be one of those summers you can see your breath on the solstice and tomatoes will be smallish. Am experimenting with 2 new heirloom strains also as a gamble in different soil. So yeah Doug, its in the air and has a fire under me lit to do as much as humanly possible. Immed.

Stepping up as best the paychecks allow. I'm a younger fellow so I'm kind of behind. especially compared to some of the folks around here. November 2020 is screaming in my ears as a big possible disaster afoot.

Our garden will be late this year because it is too cold here. Today's high was 39* and night before last it was 27* and the birdbath was frozen solid. I think we will have to buy most of our garden stuff instead of growing it this year. Had an inch of snow on the ground today too.
I think I will lay in some more LTS food.
Got my second SS check and it is burning a hole in my pocket :)

Day by day
Yes, we are. I did my regular grocery run Friday but added extra bottled water, crackers, just easy light meal items, first aid items, etc., Costco run in the works now. We're pretty well stocked, but I always top off when the news gets tense. Have a steer at the processor now that we pick up in a week. Stocking up on chicken feed and working double time to get extra gardening done.

I'm just about done stocking for now. Been working on prep holes for the last 8 months. 2020 will get here too soon.

Last week was ordering more of Summer's Ouch Oil; it works and it stores. One more trap/snare order and that will be complete enough. Also need to check/organize the med kits.

Bought 5 young ducks. Bought more net cups, more hydro ferts, foam board, and more rock wool. Will be buying more seeds. Need more wood, hardware, sheet plastic, and screening.

Am thinking about that oil. I've got a messed up shoulder that will NOT heal.

Now that I don't have chickens and rabbits any more, there are no more big things I need to buy. I'm just getting a few unnecessary things I'd like to have, like instant potatoes. I may grab a couple dozen more boxes of canning lids and some pantry moth traps.

Also I still have a few things I've not yet planted and I'd like to see to that, which I think I'll be able to do after this next rain. It appears on Intellicast Radar that the worst of the present system may skim mostly north of me. I can only hope so.

Yes, me too. Each month I make lists of purchases for the next 30 days. Like many folks, the shelves are burgeoning, but for the last 2 months I have been particularly motivated to stock more than usual; mostly things to help grow food.

I also turned-over all of the stored gas that I have.

My last big thing for May is a set of new tires for the main car.

Do any of you make what I call an 'emergency list'? Things to acquire if really big change looks imminent? On that list I have things like: A new set of solar batteries, 2 cords of firewood, and 6 jugs of Mobil One.
