I am sitting here like many of you, working hard to get things done. Slaving away to make sure we have enough to feed and clothe the family.

It is a struggle for many and often things are given up in order to make the book balance.

I try to have some empathy for those down on their luck, but this is getting silly!!

1) Nearly every single corner that has decent levels of traffic and many parking lots have someone begging for CASH.

2) We have urban campers all over the town including just about any wooded section in town that has a minimum of tree/ bush coverage. It has gotten so bad, that one of the local McDs has an entire camp ground 10 feet from their drive through.

Now, I have people aggressively coming into the office asking / demanding help as they......

a) No baby food
b) Need cash for food
c) Need cash for their charity..... I did believe the 80 year old that was going around for her church......the rest? Nope!
d) Just ran out of gas at the corner gas station and just needs me to give them xx Dollars so they can get to ?????
e) It goes on!!

EXCEPT the 80 year old with the walker, EACH AND EVERY ONE of them is working age, has a frigging STARBUCKS coffee cup in their hand and has no physical ailments that prevents them from moving quickly, jumping up or down the stairs or many of the things that at 60, I have a bit of trouble doing.

Even where I live the homeless have overwhelmed the area. The city has even bought a couple of motels to house them in. And the crime rate has shot up tremendously, like 87% if I remember correctly.

That is scary that they are harassing your place of business. It may be time to look for another location or consider having an intercom system where customers are buzzed in after stating their business. This world is getting crazier every day.

We have multiple pan handlers at our exit , and every damn time we stop at the light they walk down the side of the cars and most times at least 1 person will hand them some bills. Plus sometimes they hold up the line and I miss my chance to turn. Last week the gal in front of me handed a twenty dollar bill to the 25ish perfectly healthy looking... except for the pick marks all over any exposed skin meth-head. Her license plate said New Jersey so she's one of the brain dead liberals moving into and ruining our area. Made me so mad I yelled out the window at the lady that she was helping her buy meth. Hope she doesn't OD on it. The woman just gave me the finger and drove off. Oh well...

At my exit they all recognize my vehicle now and just pass right on by me. Why you might ask? Well its because I keep a bunch of papers on my dash that I hand out to panhandlers which says "get a job" I usually act like I am digging around looking for money as they stand there and as soon as the light turns and the line moves I hand it to them and drive away waving at them and smiling. Yes, I do take some small pleasure in doing that. Sorry.

Now I am not always so terribly cold hearted, I donate to food banks and stuff like that, but I will not donate drug money to someone perfectly healthy man or woman standing beside the road month after month and some of these there have been are there for years. Sorry but there are dozens of jobs about 300'-500' from the intersection. If you can stand there for 8 hours a day you could stand in front of a cash register or something.

The good thing about where I live there is not a shelter, it is getting down in the low 40's and about every day I see someone hitch hiking south for the winter. Where they are coming from I have no idea, but back pack on their back and thumbs out they are heading south for the winter. We usually do not see many homeless up here this far north.

When we go into the biggest city in our far west AO (Champaign) it’s a university town. We have seen the professional beggars for the last several years. In the last two years they progressed from a relative few up in the campus areas to just about everywhere on the ways into the main shopping areas

Recently it has switch from 50/50 blacks and whites to 25% rag headed Muslim women, 25% whites and 50% blacks.

Haven’t seen any Hispanics though. They must be working.

I don't usually give to pan handlers but a few days ago at Home Depot I did pass a 10 to a one legged man in a motorized cart and only because I had it to spare.

I only go shopping when the stores open in the morning. Late afternoon two years ago a man rushed me at my car, I used my cart as a weapon and he turned and ran. I don't carry a purse because decades ago I stopped a teen trying to grab it.

Old white female and mother holding a toddler with another child at my side. Cowards target the easy marks. Public shopping no matter where you live is not safe. My first response is to fight when attacked. Years of duking it out with my brothers growing up.

The last money i gave was a bill slipped to a pregnant mom with 2 kids who was shopping the thrift store. Friend offered a panhandler fresh hot Mcdonalds and the woman screeched that she wanted cash not food. She didnt get either one

You know why panhandling is increasing again? Because charities are now required to get W-2's from their recipients so that it can be reported to the IRS as income to the recipient and an expense to the charity.

Put a sign out that says before they can receive any remuneration from you, they have to fill out a verified W2 so that the expense can be turned into the IRS since you are a business. You'll also be required to take their photo, or their photo has already been taken by stepping across your business' threshold for any potential legal issues.

Hang up NO LOITTERING - signs and then follow through.

Lock your business door and put a sign out that says CUSTOMERS/CLIENTS ONLY and then don't open the door for anyone except known customers/clients. Make a point of telling your customers/clients that it is being done for their safety due to how aggressive the panhandlers are becoming.

We have a property that has five duplexes that sit on a busy four way stop. County forced us to to allow them to put a bus stop there despite the fact that it is really bad place to do it traffic-wise. Since the bus stop went in we have a bunch of knuckleheads that just hang out on the corner. We run them off and they are back the next day if not the same one. Cops are useless on the subject. County/bus managers are useless on the subject. Code enforcement tried to be useless until we went to the mayor's office with evidence that they were the trouble. Now the cops are finally issuing tresspass notices and surprise, actually got some of the idiots arrested the other day.

For those of you with soft hearts, only donate to legitimate charities otherwise your hard-earned money is wasted. Putting money into the hands of people who by and large (I know, not everyone) do not have fiscal good decision-making skills, will do nothing but encourage them to continue to make bad decisions/choices.

I am severely deprived. I've never had a cup of Starbucks coffee. I don't get out of the country much and when I do, I usually take snacks and drinks. It's not about the money, I'm just picky.

Our closest bigger city has a homeless issue too but it is confined to the old downtown area...right where all the tourist attractions are. I feel for the folks that got behind it and went in and restored the old buildings and opened cute shops, bars and restaurants.

I have all the compassion in the world for folks who are homeless against their will and there are a few of those but most of them down there now do it for a living. They are young, healthy and having fun. They hang out on the streets soliciting all day. They get free meals, lodging, toiletries and clothes. I use to donate $$$ when it first started but then it got out of hand. One thing I notice is they always have brand new shoes and snow white socks and they smoke.

There's another group of homeless down by the river and they live in squalor with nothing. There are more older, disabled people down there. I feel sorry for those folks. Nobody provides them a safe place to sleep. Some of them live in big boxes, even in the winter.

Portland bussed them to Aroostook Couny… farms towns growing potatoes.

Nasty Nasty winter conditions start there about Thanksgiving.

They are living along the river for now, rummaging in the dumpsters about town.
