and pets? dogs and cats
and what about wild hogs?
Just did a quick search. Yes, don't know, and no.
Studies show cattle can get it.

Most cattle around here get at least one dose of ivermectin every year. Not sure what to think might be gleaned from a study.

Nah, too many treadmill shrimp to study... :(

I wonder how the virus will interact with Chronic Wasting Disease, in ungulates?

It's a prion type disease, like Mad Cow.
I wonder if the virus would interact with viruses potentially carried by parasites of deer, maybe like meningeal worm? Then spread to slugs and snails to be passed on to whatever animal eats them?

I asked because I see healthy adults but not one fawn or yearling this year. This could be a bad thing.
We’ve had several little baby fawns wandering through the back yard this year. They like to stop to have lunch at our place, for some reason. I adore watching them, we just sit and stare at each other :)

Are the deer producing healthy offspring at the normal rate?

Not an idle question.

This year has been phenomenal for twins.

Have at least three pairs that come and go on the mile long road out to blacktop from my location.

Very active, which to me indicates healthy.

(disclaimer: not an idle answer)

Oh, and seen more bucks this year than ever before.....out in open, congregating in fields.

They seem to be lazing it, though, compared to the youth, anyway.

Maybe beer and poker gatherings ?

If only they had worn masks and social distanced. I hear there is some fruit in Africa that got the covid too. What test did they use because the pcr test can't differentiate between sars, covid or the common flu. More fake news. I guess covid is like mad cow prions they can't be destroyed by cooking.

That proves that deer catch colds. I’ve heard them sneezing.

A few mornings ago, I managed to stalk close enough to a couple having their morning coffee.

The doe was having a time of it, what with her sinuses apparently acting up, and I overheard her say, “dammit, Walter, why did God ever have to even give us a node ?”

Can you imagine that poor buck’s experience back in his youth, you know, like among his immediate peers ?

I mean, who names their buck offspring, “Walter” ?

My other concern is that the chicken feed may contain animal protein that the deer should not be eating and the possibility of introducing the deer Wasting Disease. She went in and came out with a big pan of food for them as soon as he left!

So, I can see how, here, Covid could get into the deer population. Neighbor said he saw her on the porch, hand feeding a young buckling last week, when he drove by. It all seems so cute and harmless to regular town people. We see them, out for a Sunday drive, stopping to take pics of the herd of deer in her side yard.

She's a moron. Ds's MIL is another one. Started feeding the "adorable" deer that wandered through their 2 acre high-end residential lot. It was costing them a fortune, as she was buying "deer corn" (3 whole ears for a few bucks!) bought at the local supermarket. It's ILLEGAL TO FEED DEER. Why would a store sell "deer corn"?!

Anyway, we kept trying to warn her, and she thought we were all mean idiots, I'm sure, until the afternoon one of her favorite bucks got pissed that she didn't have more food, and knocked her down aggressively looking for more. OMG! Those dangerous, evil deer! The whole 2 acres got fenced (barely slowed them down) and the feeding stopped.

Hopefully, this bear will cause the idiot doctor trouble, not you!

What the heck is it with these people. She was also leaving cans of cat food for a colony of stray cats on the other side of our property. I mean, we found hundreds of empty cans just left there!. It's been a real nightmare. We have everything electrified but every time the dogs bark in the night, my stomach knots up. Before she retired we'd farmed here for 14 years with no bear problems. One would walk through every so often, but we keep the place clean and make sure there's no uneaten food left out.

This buck was super healthy, no ticks and heavy, harvested with lead and was a well placed shot, butchered (deboned) packaged and cooked by me. Asparagus was also harvested in the same area. Minute made rice. Delicious! Worth the trouble and hunting is therapeutic.

A picture about 27 seconds before it was harvested.
