Cindy Williams, who starred in the smash Happy Days spinoff Laverne & Shirley after appearing in two Best Picture Oscar nominees — George Lucas’ American Graffiti and Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation — has died. She was 75. Her family told the Associated Press today that the actress died Wednesday after a brief illness.

“The passing of our kind, hilarious mother, Cindy Williams, has brought us insurmountable sadness that could never truly be expressed,” reads the statement from her children, Emily and Zak Hudson, relayed through a spokesperson. “Knowing and loving her has been our joy and privilege. She was one of a kind, beautiful, generous and possessed a brilliant sense of humor and a glittering spirit that everyone loved.”

Williams played Shirley Feeney in Laverne & Shirley opposite Penny Marshall’s Laverne DeFazio. The series was an out-of-the-box smash after premiering in January 1976 on ABC. The characters first appeared briefly on Happy Days — which was created by Marshall’s brother, Garry Marshall — but made enough of an impression to lead their own series. The midcentury-set sitcom about a pair of lower-class workers at Shotz Brewery in Milwaukee would finish as the No. 3 series in all of primetime for the 1975-76 season, far outpacing Happy Days.

The next season, Happy Days was the No. 1 in primetime, followed by Laverne & Shirley at No. 2, but the latter would rule the rankings for the next two seasons, averaging a 31 rating in the three-network universe.

The show’s opening credits was among the era’s most memorable, with the two friends high-stepping with locked arms and chanting, “Schlemiel! Schlimazel! Hasenpfeffer Incorporated!” before the title theme “Making Our Dreams Come True” kicked in. (It was a minor pop hit in the U.S, and Canada.) Also starring Phil Foster, Michael McKean, David L. Lander, Eddie Mekka and Betty Garrett, it would be one of the decade’s most popular comedies, airing more than 175 episodes before wrapping in 1983. Williams scored a Golden Globe nomination for the role in 1978 and directed a 1981 episode of the series.

Williams and Marshall guest-starred on a Season 2 episode of Saturday Night Live in 1977, and an animated series based on the characters, Laverne & Shirley in the Army, aired in 1981-82, with Marshall — who died in 2018 — and Williams voicing their respective roles. The pair were honored with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a 2004 dual ceremony.

In a 2013 interview for the Television Academy Foundation’s “The Interviews” series, Williams said: “I went to see ‘Wayne’s World’ and suddenly they’re doing a parody of ‘Laverne & Shirley!’ I called Penny to tell her. She asks, ‘How was it?’ And I said, ‘You will be simultaneously honored and humiliated.’ And that was the spirit that those two characters really embodied. That’s what I love about them.”

Born on August 22, 1947, in Van Nuys north of Los Angeles, began her screen career in 1970, guesting on such TV series as Nanny and the Professor and Room 222. She was cast as a series regular on 1971 NBC comedy-variety series The Funny Side, whose regular host was Gene Kelly. The show only lasted a handful of episodes, though.

Williams appeared in a few feature films — including playing a hippie in George Cukor’s 1972 romp Travels with My Aunt starring Maggie Smith — before landing her first major role, playing Laurie, the girlfriend of Ron Howard’s Steve in Lucas’ pre-Star Wars pic American Graffiti. The film also featured several other rising actors who would become household names including Richard Dreyfuss, Suzanne Mackenzie Phillips and one Harrison Ford. Produced by Coppola, the film was nominated for five Oscars including Best Picture and Director but didn’t win any as The Sting romped through the ceremony. Williams, who earned a BAFTA nomination for the pic, also appeared in the 1979 sequel More American Graffiti.

American Graffiti helped fuel the national nostalgia craze for 1950s and early ’60s Americana as the nation came to grips with Watergate and Vietnam. Among the films and TV shows that reflected the oldies fad was Happy Days.

Williams and Marshall appeared in five episodes of Happy Days, starting with the Season 3’s “A Date with Fonzie” in 1975. Richie Cunningham (Played by Howard) had broken up with his girlfriend and goes to his play Arthur Fonzerelli (Henry Winkler) for guidance. The Fonz decides ends up whipping out his little black book — a recurring gag on the show that had the other guys gasping at its mere appearance — and decides that the chosen two would double date with them. Enter Laverne and Shirley. As in American Graffiti, Williams was paired with Howard — eventually leading to one of the most successful spinoffs in TV history.

But before Laverne & Shirley hit the ABC airwaves as America began its bicentennial celebration, Williams was cast in The Conversation. Starring Gene Hackman AS an obsessed and paranoid surveillance expert, the 1974 thriller was writer-director Coppola’S film between his Oscar-winning The Godfather movies. Williams played Ann, who early on is assumed to be sweet, if trouble, but turns out to be anything but.

It was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar but lost out to The Godfather Part II.

Williams continued to work steadily after Laverne & Shirley ended. Along with many TV guest roles, she was a series regular on Normal Life, a 1990 family sitcom starring Frank Zappa’s children Dweezil and Moon Unit Zappa, that lasted only half a season. Williams last toplined the sitcom Getting By, which aired during the 1993-94 season on ABC and was picked up for a second and final run on NBC. She later recurred on the 2000-01 Comedy Central sitcom Strip Mall, which was set in Williams’ hometown of Van Nuys.

Since then, Williams had done guest shots on such TV series as 7th Heaven, 8 Simple Rules, Law & Order: SVU, Girlfriends, Sam & Cat, Are We There Yet? and others.

She also co-produced the two Father of the Bride films in the 1990s

It added, that the medical examiner is currently looking to determine the cause of death.

Taoiseach ( Irish Prime Minister ) Varadkar to seek advice from Health chief about rise in deaths.

The Taoiseach is to seek advice from the chief medical officer over "concerns" around a spike in the number of deaths in recent weeks.

As the
Irish Examiner reports, Leo Varadkar has told the Dáil an increase in the number of excess deaths "probably relates" to the fact that RSV, influenza, and Covid are all circulating at the moment, but he will be asking the CMO Professor Breda Smyth to examine the issue.

It comes after it was
revealed that an increase in deaths has disrupted funeral arrangements and put mortuaries under unprecedented stress.

Analysis of death notices on the website rip.ie shows there were 9,718 published in the eight-week period from December 1st, 2022 to January 25th, 2023 — up 20 per cent from 8,075 in the same period a year earlier.

Mr Varadkar told the Dáil: "I am aware that in Ireland and in a lot of countries there has been a significant increase in excess deaths this winter, even more so than was the case during the pandemic, or at least during the lockdowns. That is a matter of concern.

"I am going to seek the advice and opinion of the Chief Medical Officer on it.

"It probably relates to the fact that RSV, influenza, and Covid are all circulating at the moment, against the backdrop of reduced immunity because people were socially distancing during the lockdowns, and also because there was a lot of unmet health need during the lockdowns which is now coming back at us.

"That is just my impression."

Had an interview for a part-time contract job with the local children's hospital on Monday. The interview went well until I asked if I was required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The manager explained vaccination was required to prevent the spread of COVID-19 throughout the hospital staff and patients -- even though the vax manufacturers have admitted that the vax doesn't prevent transmission!

I said I'd work entirely remotely and get a medical or religious exemption or both if possible, but I could not take the vax because its long-term side effects are unknown. They said they'd see if an exception could be made, but I'm not holding my breath waiting to sign the contract!

Never mind the unknown long-term side effects of the vax; it's becoming apparent that its known short-term side effect is DEATH.

Detroit Northwestern basketball player suffers cardiac arrest, placed on life support

A Detroit high school boys basketball player was rushed to the hospital Tuesday night and placed on life support after suffering a cardiac event during a game.

Detroit Public Schools Community District superintendent Nikolai Vitti sent a message late Tuesday night, announcing that Cartier Woods, a senior at Northwestern High School, "went into cardiac arrest" while he was playing in the varsity basketball home game against Detroit Douglass.

Vitti wrote in an email obtained by the Free Press that Woods was given CPR before being rushed to Henry Ford Hospital, about a mile away from the school. The superintendent wrote that Woods was placed on life support at the hospital and "the next 24 hours are critical for his survival."

Vitti also added that the correspondence was sent with permission from Woods' legal guardian, his aunt, and that the family is asking for "prayers, thoughts, and/or well wishes for his recovery."

A request for further information on Woods' condition made Wednesday afternoon to DPSCD was not immediately returned.

Woods seemingly was a multi-sport athlete at Northwestern, based on his Hudl page highlighting his time as a football player for the Colts.

Sometime this spring I think the scales drop off. I'm concerned for my family members who are in solid denial. It's going to be bumpy.

And think about the anger especially for those on the left that have bought into wokeness lock, stock and barrel when they come to the conclusion they have been experimented on and it will probably shorten their lives. The streets won't be safe for the gnome and Trump might find his re-election a whole lot harder for those that believed everything that came out of his mouth and thought that if he was behind it that it must be o.k.

That is another reason IMO why they are taking us to war. Got to get people's attention off what was done to them and their children.

interestingly enough,no comments from the vaxx death deniers here lately.
i wonder why?
gonna be one hell of a reckoning......................
Indeed. You make a great point.

Also, we are posting only some of the “died suddenlies” that are high enough profile to actually get reported. Can you imagine the hundreds of average citizens who are dying suddenly and no one cares enough to report them? Staggering number for sure.

People are indeed waking up. It’s been a slow process. I pity the duped, but still hold disdain for the Pfizer apologists. I’m sure hell will freeze over before we ever hear any apologies from them.

Kudos to Intestinal Fortitude for starting this thread, one that has finally gained some traction here.

Let the truth be known.

I stay concerned about my son and daughter in law. They both had the Moderna and all the boosters. Daughter in law came down with covid in November of last year. My son didn't. His last booster a few weeks ago made his arm very sore over all the other times. I have tried to talk to him, but he refuses to not take it which would cause him to lose his job. His job is a good one, and he works over many others. He will do what he has to in order to provide for his wife. He has helped us before too, but I rather him and her to just be alive and ok. He turned 50 this past December, so he is not like in his 30's. Hey I turn 70 in May.

P.S. He does believe in the mark of the beast, but just doesn't connect this.

The Family Of A Southern California Attorney Who Died Suddenly In Mexico Says Officials’ Statements About What Happened Aren’t Adding Up

Elliot Blair

Elliot Blair

The family of a 33-year-old Southern California attorney is seeking answers about his sudden death earlier this month while celebrating his wedding anniversary in Mexico.
Elliot Blair died on Jan. 14 at a resort in Rosarito, Baja California, while on vacation with his wife, Kimberly Williams. Both worked as public defenders in Orange County, and his unexpected death was widely mourned in the local legal community.
Adding to his friends’ and colleagues’ shock was that a GoFundMe organized on his wife’s behalf described his death as a “brutal crime.” On Wednesday, an attorney representing the family told BuzzFeed News that Mexican officials at the scene told Williams that her husband had a gunshot wound to the head. Other officials then contradicted that account, describing his death as the result of a fall, and now the family is working to bring Blair’s body to the US for an independent autopsy.

“So we were trying to piece together what happened that night, we had been working well with local police,” family attorney Casey Barnett told BuzzFeed News. “We're hoping that that continues so we can get his body back and we can get some of those reports so we can see ourselves what information they actually have.”
The Baja California attorney general’s office said that Blair’s death appeared to be the "result of an unfortunate accident from a fall by the now deceased from a third-story floor," the Orange County Register reported earlier this month.
In a statement, the family said it received a call from a liaison who was in contact with the medical examiner’s office on Jan 16.
According to the statement, the liaison told the family that Blair’s cause of death was severe head trauma — not a gunshot wound — and that his case had been forwarded to the district attorney's office for consideration of a homicide investigation.
But three hours after the call with the liaison, the family saw a press release online by the prosecutor’s office in Mexico saying that Blair’s death was accidental, adding that he had a high alcohol level at the time of his death, Barnett said.
Barnett told BuzzFeed News that Williams and other witnesses who were with him that night did not see Blair drunk.

Confused by what they’re being told by Mexican officials, the family and their attorneys are working hard to get their own independent toxicology done on Blair’s body and get answers to what happened to him that night.
Bodies must be embalmed for transport, so Barnett told BuzzFeed News they’re working on other methods to get their own toxicology report. The family said in its statement that Mexican officials had repeatedly suggested that Blair be cremated, which it refused so it could get more answers about how he died.
The GoFundMe has raised more than $115,000, which will go toward helping the family to transport Blair’s body from Mexico to the US and other challenges involved.
A spokesperson for the US State Department told BuzzFeed News that they were aware of Blair’s death and will be ready to assist the family to “provide all appropriate consular assistance.”
A candlelight vigil in honor of Blair is planned for Thursday at Plaza Park in Orange, California.
“Elliot was a brilliant attorney with a bright future. Elliot's smile was radiant and warmed the hearts of every person he came in contact with,” his family said. “Elliot had an innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Elliot was a loving husband, son, and brother. Elliot's tragic, untimely, and suspicious death has left his family and community with a huge hole in their hearts that will never be repaired.”
