OT/MISC What was THE most unusual thing that ever happened to you?

What is the most unusual thing that has ever happened to you?

Mine was when I was a kid. I was sent down to my mom's garden to get it watered. Turned the water on in the pumphouse, came out dragging the end of the hose. Since we lived far out of town, nothing and nobody around for miles.
I saw what I thought was a stick on the ground, stepped on it to find it was a rattlesnake. I instantly found myself about 10 feet away, with the hose still spewing water and not a drop between where I was and where I ended up.
Ever watch Jumper? You may be one. Watch out for Paladins.

Had a 300 mile round trip commute. Always used GPS for the ETA. It took a while to
load the maps when I started. When I checked at the end of our driveway, I apparently was somewhere near Roswell as the road was interstellar or something like that. When the GPS got its head out of its nether regions and found itself, it established a max speed of 800mph or something like that, betwixt here and there.
Weird.

OMG…too many stories.

Lightning? Yep. (Twice)

Car directly in front of us losing a tire at 65 mph after dark, with an explosion of sparks? Yep.

Halfway through our move from Alabama to Wyoming, daughter pushed son in tag at inlaw’s house, breaking his arm and me having to do 1st aid before taking him to hospital? Yep.

Having to avoid a dumbass parked on the right shoulder of I-25, who pulled out in front of me from a dead stop (and I was driving a 4 ton dodge 4x4 dually with an empty 3 ton 44 four flatbed at 70 mph north of Denver) and somehow MISS HIM, and no one was in the left lane beside me, and after passing him, pulled over and waited for him to pass me? He stopped and cut across the grassy shoulder to the service road…and I DIDN’T chase them? Yep. (I SURE hope he shit a brick…because I really was ready to run across the grass and smash his windshield in with my tire iron.,.)

Same move to Wyoming, just hitting interstate 25, in Raton, NM with truck and trailer loaded with EVERYTHING we own…and lose both passenger side dually tires at 75 mph, just as we’re passing under the pedestrian bridge, and somehow stop straight and on the right shoulder without burning, flipping, jackknifing, or injuries? Yep.

Several death defying events as a city letter carrier in North Dallas, and then Bessemer, Alabama, including wrecks missing me by just INCHES, as I stand on the sidewalk or corner? Yep.

Nearly losing our 100 year old home in Abernant, Al., to a house fire started by eldest son flicking lit matches out his bedroom window, which started the grass on fire, that surrounded our nearly full 500 gl propane tank, and was saved by volunteer firefighters, as well as extreme heat between the joists under his bedroom floor, which caused the hot water pvc water line to swell and split, opening a spray of water that put out the flames UNDER the floor? Yep. (We’d just replaced leaking cold water pvc pipes six months before…a holy intervention for our family)

Coming around a mountain bend on the way home from town one Saturday afternoon in my 1972 Dodge pickup truck, and a driver coming the other way on the inside of the curve, swings wide, over two feet into my lane, with a 5000 acre lake on the other side of my guardrail, and I’m going slow enough to drop the right side wheels off the pavement and not hit the rails, and when I come back on the pavement, the rear end comes loose, and I’m now sliding sideways towards oncoming traffic (which thank God) is far enough away to stop dozens of yards away, yet when my wheels hit the the driveway on the other side of that mountain (that lead to a small chapel on top of said mountain...this MEANS something…) the truck goes 180 degrees, and then falls off the other side of the driveway…into a 20 foot deep drainage ditch…burying front and rear bumpers into the banks of the ditch with all four wheels hanging in mid air…like landing on a feather bed…and my youngest son and I aren’t hurt? Yep. (No seat belts either..the most profound event in my life, where I felt the power of God and his angels interdict in my life…of course, it cost me $85 for a wrecker to pull me out of the ditch…with the only damage a crushed tailpipe)

“The Curve”. I was traveling right to left. The turn was much sharper then, there was no yellow center lane, and the lake is up several feet. The road down the hill from the (much larger) church has been moved at least 200ft west, and you’ll note the large chunk of green land and trees on the outside of the guardrail. This is where the original curve USED to be. I do still have nightmares about this NDE.

Unusual?

Neither here nor there.
Well for those of you that keep asking what it's like to get hit by lightning, all I remember was my dad saying "here it comes" and then feeling a weird buzzing noise and waking up in the ER with burn marks on the left side of my body and my finger and toe nails were burnt up weird like. ER docs told me I was damn lucky. Yes, I actually felt the buzzing noise.

Many weird things - but the nicest weird thing :) - when my son was stationed in Afghanistan they would occasionally get Internet access at their FOB. Perhaps randomly is a better word. No one knew in advance if or when it would happen -it would just be there. They were about 12 hours or so ahead of us time-wise. and every time he would get access, I would suddenly wake up - about 2:30 am - and know that he was online. In the nine months he served - he probably got access half a dozen times or so. I woke up every single time and got to "chat" with him.

Did your dad get hit too or just happened to be in the wrong place at the right time?

OK just weird bizarre things, when I was a kindergartener in Ft. Collins Colorado I was in the backyard playing with the garden hose. I put it in a hole that was in the grass. Was it a mole hole? Not sure now too long ago. But the darn thing started getting sucked into it. I was amazed! So of course I put the hose in the hole again and it started sucking it in. About a foot into it and the thing took off! I couldn't hold it. We all started screaming and pretty soon the entire hose was sucked into the hole and straining at the spigot! Bye bye hose! We never knew what happened but I imagine some sort of weird back pressure sucked it in.

1997 or about.

Oldman walks into my shop.. says where's "West" well I confessed.... he asked are you busy? I said yes booked for at least a month out.

And he said fine, I checked you out and I need your services. I said okay and I we scheduled in appointment. Two weeks later I did the service call and fixed his heater.

The old man was a genius! We hit it off right away! Now I may have fixed his heater, but only upon his direction! The old man was a genius! I picked his brain and he picked up on my abilities and we fixed his heating system in less than a few minutes.

His system was a solar hydronic system. It was powered by a small wine cellar Airconditioner(about max 5 Running load amps) And used direct exchange solar panels. Where the R-11 refrigerant was compressed to a liquid after picking up the heat from direct exchange closed R-11 solar panels, even with the outside temperatures below freezing! But with the sun shining, no problem!

In just a 10 hour day we could make at least 300 gallons of hot 140f. water using only a dollars worth of electricity, or less.

Anyway he said that he checked me out and after hiring me and paying me he then gave me probably $20,000 worth of equipment, r11 refrigerant and the detailed instructions to make it all work.

We do not have a energy problem. We have a bureaucratic BS system. That's designed to make us all poor idiots!

Geez . . . way too many things. One that comes to mind was . . . when 2 or 3 years old . . . eating a sack lunch with my dad in the woods (some state park near Santa Cruz), in the only patch of sunlight to make it through the trees. Soon the sunlight had moved and we were in shadow. This aroused my curiosity and dad explained that the earth had moved in its rotation. Certainly much more subtle that rattlesnakes or lightening, but an eye opener all the same.

My mom listened to radio all the time, so Paul Harvey was one of those people I grew to love. I distinctly remember one day he reported that he personally went to see a car powered by water. He further stated that if you (audience) don't see a massive change over to these water driven cars you (audience) will know that the gasoline moguls have not allowed this new type of car to exist. He again said, I have seen it work with me own eyes. I think I was around 12 so 1962 ish.

Mine was in college junior year, Had this girl I liked, we set up a study session for a class we both had for midterms. We met up in the lounge in the dorm that night, the dorm for guys was this OLD building I'm guessing built in the 1800s, and had lots of older art on the walls. We always joked that the lounge looked like the Adams family living room set.

So on the wall was a picture of what looked like an older Mexican man sitting on a donkey, passed by it tons of times, so we were familiar with it. As the girl and i were studying we got to talking about stuff on campus and we both looked up at the same time. The picture was no longer of the man sitting on the donkey, he was now standing next to it, holding its reigns. We both kind of gasped, looked at one another and did the whole "Did you see that" In fact we BOTH saw it, and no we were not drinking nor were any "recreational pharmaceuticals" involved lol We both looked back and the picture was back to normal. Needless to say that was the end of the study session that night.

It was creepy and very unusual

Lost control of my motorcycle while high as a kite on a switchback in the Colorado mountains when I was about 20. Went into a sideways skid at about 50 mph, headed directly into the grill of a Ford van coming the other way, knew I was dead. About 15 feet from the van, God, the Holy Spirit or one of their angels picked up my motorcycle and I, turned me 90 degrees and set me back down in my lane at that speed, like nothing ever happened. Took about half a second.

I was riding with a friend who was about 50 yards behind me. We pulled over, I was probably in shock and fairly calm, considering, but he had watched the whole thing from behind, and was totally freaked out.

When about six we lived in an old flat in Detroit. Moved there after my parents divorced. I always felt there was a presence there. I slept hiding under the covers as I thought I was protected.

One night in the early morning I got up the go to the bathroom. I was physically held by a force of light. It held me from behind. I could not move at all. It’s said something. Then I was released.

The next morning there was a weird blood spot on my gums right under my nose. Wasn’t there before. I picked it off and still have the scar to this day.

Living On A Prayer
In about 1992, I was a very young Branch Manager for a very large battery corporation. My commute was about 200 miles day.

I had fired a truck driver a couple of days earlier. Just wasn't doing his job, milking the clock, inventory checks always coming up short physically vs his paperwork. So, I canned him. He did NOT like it.

On my early morning commute into the city, I always, always listened to the same radio station. On this morning, I was changing stations, and I stopped on a station that had a live psychic on air taking calls.

10 minutes into listening, my ears perked up. The caller was telling the psychic that he had gotten canned from his job this week, because his boss had it out for him...that he was a stellar employee, always gave 100%, boss was a jerk...etc ad nauseum.

His bottom line questions to the psychic were " Should I sue for wrongful discharge? " and " Will I get a good job soon? ".

The irony of the whole thing was very entertaining to me, but it ended perfectly when the psychic sided with me! Told the guy he got fired for milking the clock, stealing from the company, padding his expenses, and just generally being a schlub. Boss was right in canning you, and you won't ever find a good job until he changed his ways!!

The whole thing was great, but even better, 2 other employees heard it, too.

My wife has seeing abilities. Proven. We lost our dog 15 years ago. We decided to get another. We looked around and found one we liked. My wife liked another dog in the litter and debated getting two. She said something is telling her to get both. As soon as she said it, a portable GPS we hadn’t used in a couple years which was located in a cabinet in the living room ( no batteries in it, ran on 12v cord) … just spoke out … you have reached your destination.

We still talk about that until this day. We got both.

I have had a few odd things. Over the last 25 years I have had this happen with three people I have known. The first time it happened was with my hair dresser, Tony. When I came to my appointment I noticed he looked sort of "faded" for want of a better word and disconnected. All through my appointment he remarked that I seemed so full of life that day. He told me he was excited because he was going to pick up his son in Vegas the next day, his son lived with the ex-wife in California. A week later a friend who also went to Tony told me that he had been killed in a traffic accident on the way to pick up his son.

The second time it happened I was at school, I worked in a school setting, and I said hi to one of the boys who was a friend of my son, standing in the hallway. I noticed that he seemed "faded" and disconnected as I passed him. He was killed the next day in a traffic accident. When this boy died I remembered how faded and disconnected he had looked and I remember the way Tony had looked too.

The third person I saw at a community get together, she too was faded and sad. She died that night in her sleep.

I haven't had it happen since, maybe I just haven't slowed down enough to be aware of how people appear.

I went down to the Mississippi spillway in southern wisconsin to go fishing. There were about 6-7 other people along the shoreline fishing too. It was probably about 11:30 pm. The spillway was on the non-channel side of the river so there was a bunch of small islands in the backwaters. All was very quiet until a guy yelled “what the hell is that”. We all looked where he was looking and a round white light was above us by a few hundred feet but maybe 200-300 feet away too. It sat there for a period of time. We all started grouping together speculating what it was. I thought it was a helicopter with a light and it was an optical allusion on distance. Then after about 3-4 minutes it started coming down lower. It went over the island directly across from us and went into the tree line. It lite up the island like a prison yard. A few seconds later all the deer, raccoons and other animals were jumping in the water and swimming away from the island. We were all dumbfounded. There was no noise. Dead silence. Nobody even spoke a word. All you could hear was the animals making noise in the water and the spillway. Then all of a sudden the light went straight up in the sky until it looked like one of the stars and disappeared.

That was the day I changed my opinion about spirits, angels and UFOs since that is the only three things I could relate to what I saw.

I was on my may to Army basic training and spending the night at a hotel MEPPS(?) arranged. I had a room mate randomly assigned. We talked about why we were joining and stuff like that. [As an aside, I should mention that we had introduced ourselves at this point]. I told him that I really wanted to join because my uncle had died in Vietnam and I was named after him. A few minutes later this guy started freaking out. Saying his father had told him stories of his friend that had died alongside him in Vietnam. He was my uncle. Absolutely crazy.

Since I was on my way to basic, I didn't get a chance to write my parents for a few weeks. When I did, my grandparents reached out to this guys father and we all got together when I was back after basic. He told my grandparents stories of my uncle while they were in-country.

Still freaks me out thinking about it.

I had dinner with Trump, Marla and Tiffany. Actually Tiffany was still hitching a ride inside Marla at the time. It wasn't planned but we ended up at a communal table at a dinner club and they ended up across from me. Marla and I talked some, she was super nice and Trump lectured me because he said I was drinking too much. I didn't much like him. It wasn't so strange at the time but now seems unusual I guess.

Actually that was not the most unusual thing, but the most unusual thing is too strange to talk about...

You were blessed. He isn’t subtle. He’s outspoken about drinking. Lost his brother to it.

I'm not even gonna try to start telling my stories...again...but as for oofos, I did get to dance with a TR type platform in 98 from 3 am to almost 5 am. Not the first, nor the most intimate, but definitely the longest amount of time to observe all the different types of mobility as well as appearance regarding the wild plasma surrounding it.
It's closest proximity was when it went over us(I was not alone) just above the tree tops at about 200-300 feet above the ground.
I imagine I tried to post about it here a few times.
A very bad thing happened about 36 hours later that I only share privately at this point.

On that note (but much milder), something that happened to me just last week. I’d come out of the grocery store and had just finished loading my stuff and closing the lift gate. Something caught my eye. An old guy was opening the lift gate on his Murano to load his food. It had an Oregon license plate. I walked the 20’ over to him and said, “I haven’t seen an Oregon plate in a long time. What are you doing here in Texas?” This led to a brief conversation. I asked him where he lived in Oregon before he moved to Texas. “Lebanon” he said. “No kidding! I lived outside of Lebanon in a wide spot in the road called Lacomb.” “No!” he said. “That’s where I lived!” I countered with “I lived on E. Lacomb Rd.” “Really? Me too!” I rattled off my former address and he did the same. Turns out we lived about a half mile from each other in the mid 90’s just before I took my consulting national and left the state.

So - same state, same town, same road, same (current) car - nearly 30 years ago.

You wanna talk “small world?” It don't get smaller than that folks.
