OMG…too many stories.
Lightning? Yep. (Twice)
Car directly in front of us losing a tire at 65 mph after dark, with an explosion of sparks? Yep.
Halfway through our move from Alabama to Wyoming, daughter pushed son in tag at inlaw’s house, breaking his arm and me having to do 1st aid before taking him to hospital? Yep.
Having to avoid a dumbass parked on the right shoulder of I-25, who pulled out in front of me from a dead stop (and I was driving a 4 ton dodge 4x4 dually with an empty 3 ton 44 four flatbed at 70 mph north of Denver) and somehow MISS HIM, and no one was in the left lane beside me, and after passing him, pulled over and waited for him to pass me? He stopped and cut across the grassy shoulder to the service road…and I DIDN’T chase them? Yep. (I SURE hope he shit a brick…because I really was ready to run across the grass and smash his windshield in with my tire iron.,.)
Same move to Wyoming, just hitting interstate 25, in Raton, NM with truck and trailer loaded with EVERYTHING we own…and lose both passenger side dually tires at 75 mph, just as we’re passing under the pedestrian bridge, and somehow stop straight and on the right shoulder without burning, flipping, jackknifing, or injuries? Yep.
Several death defying events as a city letter carrier in North Dallas, and then Bessemer, Alabama, including wrecks missing me by just INCHES, as I stand on the sidewalk or corner? Yep.
Nearly losing our 100 year old home in Abernant, Al., to a house fire started by eldest son flicking lit matches out his bedroom window, which started the grass on fire, that surrounded our nearly full 500 gl propane tank, and was saved by volunteer firefighters, as well as extreme heat between the joists under his bedroom floor, which caused the hot water pvc water line to swell and split, opening a spray of water that put out the flames UNDER the floor? Yep. (We’d just replaced leaking cold water pvc pipes six months before…a holy intervention for our family)
Coming around a mountain bend on the way home from town one Saturday afternoon in my 1972 Dodge pickup truck, and a driver coming the other way on the inside of the curve, swings wide, over two feet into my lane, with a 5000 acre lake on the other side of my guardrail, and I’m going slow enough to drop the right side wheels off the pavement and not hit the rails, and when I come back on the pavement, the rear end comes loose, and I’m now sliding sideways towards oncoming traffic (which thank God) is far enough away to stop dozens of yards away, yet when my wheels hit the the driveway on the other side of that mountain (that lead to a small chapel on top of said mountain...this MEANS something…) the truck goes 180 degrees, and then falls off the other side of the driveway…into a 20 foot deep drainage ditch…burying front and rear bumpers into the banks of the ditch with all four wheels hanging in mid air…like landing on a feather bed…and my youngest son and I aren’t hurt? Yep. (No seat belts either..the most profound event in my life, where I felt the power of God and his angels interdict in my life…of course, it cost me $85 for a wrecker to pull me out of the ditch…with the only damage a crushed tailpipe)
“The Curve”. I was traveling right to left. The turn was much sharper then, there was no yellow center lane, and the lake is up several feet. The road down the hill from the (much larger) church has been moved at least 200ft west, and you’ll note the large chunk of green land and trees on the outside of the guardrail. This is where the original curve USED to be. I do still have nightmares about this NDE.
Unusual?
All this stuff is Normal…
