I put a wally pickup order together last night. Needed some crackers. ONE BOX of Zesta saltines is $37.51!!!. I bought Premiums for $3 and change. My Lord. And whoever the member was that recommended that high end tuna a few weeks back. I bought three cans. It's good stuff. Thanks! Very large cans at abt $5/can. Not the small starkist size.
Don't get sucked in or sidelined by those third party scamming vendors. Ignore them.
The topic has been endlessly discussed and explained on this thread since it began LAST year.

I spent almost $200 at WM and didn't replace all of what we ate last week. A container of bib lettuce and a small pk of tomatoes (the garden is done) cost me almost $7. I have to have something to eat...

I spent $485+ at Walmart, Tuesday. That was for 2 weeks, though. The prices are ridiculous. Some of that wasn't food. I bought 2 cases of canning jars and lids, plus some gardening items.

Are you really sure that price isn't a case price? I see ridiculous prices like that a lot. Turns out they are case prices or multi-pack prices.

Keebler Zesta Saltine Crackers, Original, 16-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)

$37.51

I found this on my local WM website.

I'm not sure where the supplies thread went, did a search and nada. Ordered some king sized percale sheets from Penney's. Something happened and they ended up subbing out the 400 count cotton sheets with 1500 count egyptian cotton sheets, same price. I'm not complaining but it is odd.
Two thoughts... might want to check the label and make sure they're cotton... it seems most of the microfiber sheets are advertised as "1600 thread count" "Egyptian" sheets... with microfiber in fine print.

And, if the ARE cotton, treat them lovingly. Super high thread count sheets are marvelous... they can feel almost like silk. But they're made of *very* fine threads (obviously, if you can fit 800 or 1000 or 1500 in an inch!
I loved my 800 thread count cotton sheets... so cool to slide into on a hot summer night, but the top sheet was heavy enough on its own to use until the nights got cool.

But oh boy... we had a house cat, and those sheets snagged easily, even though it was a very firmly woven sateen finish. But I was really sad when the fitted (king sized... these were the deal of a lifetime! ) sheet ripped right down the middle one day when I was putting it on the bed.

Two other sets put in service at the same time (450 and 600 TC) are still doing well, about 4 years after the wonderful ones died.

Just sharing a little review. Last time with a Walmart pickup I ordered one can of the Walmart Great Value 12 oz. canned roast beef. It was around $3.75/can....less than the Libby or Hormel which is up over $4.00 now.

A good rainy, cool, "soup day" today, so opened the can of meat for about a 3-ish quart batch of simple, pantry sourced crockpot beef/vegetable soup. (A pint of tomatoes, pint of sliced carrots, some frozen chopped broccoli, powdered beef stock, dried onion/garlic, herbs/spices).

The GV canned roast beef isn't up to the standard of Libby or Hormel 12 oz cans. Maybe 1/2 to a spare 2/3 of the can was actual meat, the rest was beef stock/water. The taste and texture was fine, though salty, but that can be adjusted for in soup. Certainly not up to the even higher quality of Yoder/Keystone/Werling canned beef.

It will make perfectly fine vegetable soup once it slow-cooks for 4-5 hours, but not sure the lower price is worth that much less meat in the cans.

W-M in Le Mars, IA has now done away with most Keystone canned meats. They used to carry ground beef, (roast) beef, chicken, turkey, pork and corned beef hash. They dropped the turkey a couple-three years back, then the pork and corned beef and a little later the ground beef. Now they have chicken in the shelf, and a shelf tag for ground beef but not the regular beef. The ground beef was priced at $10-something per the tag, same as the regular beef most recently.

Could still find the pork in the Sioux City W-M, along with regular beef and chicken. All of them were under $7/can 4 years ago. Now even the chicken is $8-something.

On The Level
Needed a few fresh items, well more than a few, but decided to get ahead on some other stuff as things continue to get weird. Ended up being almost $140 with coupons. The good deals were out of stock and store brand items were low/out of stock. My liquid laundry detergent has almost doubled. The Nathan's hot dogs were $5 after the $1.50 coupon. Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke down to several 6 packs of 20oz bottles each. Plenty of 2 litres and 12 pack cans, though. This is a midday on a Friday. The amount of choices are still dwindling, I can see people checking and double-checking to see if maybe they missed what they were looking for, did it myself a couple of times. Frozen diced hash brown potatoes, just some national one I don't care for, too big. No store brand frozen potatoes. The canned meat section is getting smaller and smaller, probably about 7-8 feet wide now for everything. Had to wait in line 10 minutes to get rung out, would have gladly used the self-checkout, but produce just makes that a pita. Judging by the comments of the cashier and bag lady they thought I should have used the self check out. They still did a good job, though. Help wanted and job fair signs all over the store.

My grandson works in a Grocery, and he just sent out a warning to the family that oils, oil products like salad dressing, pam, mayo has gone up 75 cents to a dollar each. Said that Wishbone products really went up

I have always bought those items in bulk at Sam's when they have them on sale. For some reason, they have stopped putting real food items on sale for the most part. Mostly it's just junk foods and flavored water, or those little cup coffee thingies. Looks like I'm going to have to look for those items on sale elsewhere from now on.

I bought some salad dressing at walmart, their brand, awhile back and it was 1.86, last time I looked it was over 2.00, so I just looked and its back to 1.97, but they don't even list the variety I bought. I have several bottles of salad dressings, although we don't really use them very often.

I'm pretty well stocked on salad dressing, too. 6 bottles of each kind that we like. Ranch and Zesty Italian. I guess I need to start looking for sales, since we do eat lots of salads.

Salad dressings: We eat Litehouse Ranch (glass jars and a bit pricey) but I buy Safeway's dry Italian dressing (4 pcks in box) about $1.99.......tastes like Good Seasons but CHEAP......sometimes it's out of stock.....catch while you can.
Gotta have a few recipes pop up every once in a while.

Simple Salad Dressings for TEOTWAWKI

Here's the recipe for Italian Salad Dressing. There are several more at the link above.

Italian Dressing Mix
2 teaspoons dry pectin
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon lemon pepper
1/2 teaspoon dehydrated carrots
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
1/8 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1 pinch ground oregano
Place carrot and crushed red pepper in a blender or food processor and blend for 30-60 seconds, or until vegetables are finely chopped. Add remaining dry ingredients and combine.
Because this mix stores indefinitely, you might consider mixing up several little baggies of this mix in advance.
Italian Salad Dressing
1/2 cup oil
1/4 cup vinegar
3 tablespoons water
Italian Dressing Mix, above
Put vinegar and water in a cruet or canning jar. Add dressing mix, seal, and shake well. Add oil and shake until well combined.

Diabetes runs through my mother's side of the family, and a younger brother has it. An Aunt I cared for didn't treat her diabetes and became legally blind.

So I never, ever use sugar and try to avoid it in "store bought" foods. But it's damn near in everything. Read the labels!

For a sweetener, instead I use honey. Even here you have to be careful because some brands have added sugar.

Table sugar goes straight into your bloodstream and your body has to immediately dump insulin to handle it. At least with honey, the body has to break it down allowing for a bit slower digestion.

I have even developed a brownie recipe that uses honey in place of white sugar.

Neither here nor there.

We've been buying the natural cooked turkey breast from Sam's Club, it contains a half of a whole, real not pressed, turkey breast, water and salt. When you cut it out of the vacuum sealed bag it looks like a baby alien being born! So far I've really enjoyed the turkey breasts eaten either as a sammie or cooked.

My favorite way to cook it is to slice it up, put cooked dressing on the slices, roll the slices, and cover in gravy. Bake for 45 minutes. You could use mashed potatoes instead of the dressing, but alas I'm allergic to potatoes. Eight slices filled with dressing will fill an 8x8 inch baking pan.

The old Good Seasons you shook up, in that glass cruet?
That was awesome! I remember that from childhood! I think all moms had that in their frig, lol.

Well, just went shopping a couple of hours after you posted this. Sure enough, store brand coconut oil was up 6%. I didn't check other items. I don't pay attention to salad dressing and mayo since I make my own.

Saved, to glorify God.
Grabbed some Orowheat whole wheat bread for a PB sandwich tonigjt. Ate the sandwich and it was the last of the open loaf. I looked at the date on the bread. JANUARY 23, 2022. IT'S SEPTEMBER!

Bread-NINE MONTHS OLD!

I dont check the date on bread after I buy it. i only thow it out when it gets moldy.
But they MUST be doing somthing to preserve it!

It wasn't moldy, it wasnt stale or hard!

Genetic upgrades to wheat meant to increase yield accidentally increased a substance called gliadin. Gliadin consumption causes the feeling of more hunger.

Going into a period of mass shortage means you should be looking at dry beans as a source for protein and because they can be sprouted for vitamin C. I've also grown beans from food-stock beans off the shelf.

It's time to budget for basic protein. Yeast bread (sourdough) can be jiggered to increase protein, but the gliadin problem remains.

I wondered why bread lasts so long. I buy a loaf of wal mart white bread for around a doller and it lasts forever. We don't eat much and the only time I eat white bread is for the occasional grilled cheese, although its good on dark bread too. I usually keep a loaf of Ezekiel bread in the freezer but it gets really hard after several months.

I have successfully sprouted store bought lentils, truly delicious.
