I only buy groceries every 2 weeks, so it's a rather large cost. Yesterday, I went, and the cost more than doubled!!!! I saw no shortages of any kind here in my area of Mississippi. Even if there is an abundance of food, who can afford it? I certainly can't afford a bill like I had, yesterday, every time I buy groceries!

Was putting together a list for Walmart pickup this week, and at the same time thinking about some easy hot weather sides to go with ribs for supper. Remembered I'd ordered a couple 28 oz cans of (Original recipe) Great Value baked beans last time out of curiosity.

So, just tried them cold out of the can in a custard cup for lunch, and by golly, they aren't far off from the old yummy stand-by Bush's Baked Beans....pretty good eating. Worth it to give them a try if canned baked beans are a normal pantry item for you. At $1.72 per 28 oz. vs. $2.48 for the Bush's, the price difference is significant.
Last time I bought those Great Value baked beans, they were $1.49 a can. That was two or three months ago, but I bought alot at that time, so I remember the price well.

Sounds like baked beans are a better investment than most Wall Street stocks right now.

Most likely the reason they taste like Bushes Baked Beans is because Walmart probably has Bushes package them for the Walmart brand. V

I stopped at Costco tonight. I asked a employee to check and see when tomato paste would be delivered. She said they did not expect a shipment. Also they no longer have diced tomatoes. I wonder if there is a tomato shortage.
Not in my backyard.

I harvested about 1/3 of a bushel of nearly vine ripened, organic tomatoes just today alone.

Some of them were Roma (canning type) tomatoes. The rest were sandwich and salad type tomatoes, except for my one grape tomato plant that I grow especially for my chickens.

I had a tomato sandwich or a BLT for lunch every day this week.

Last week, I canned 28 pints of tomatoes.

If I have the time, I will can that much again this week.

I saw Contidina paste on Amazon really cheap yesterday. When it says snap eligible it usually is. Also they destroyed ny Barilla Rotini so it was undeliverable and I didn't get the choice to reorder or refund. Just refund.
And my local news was blaming high food prices on climate change.

A small top off this early morning. It's safe to say the shortage thing isn't noticeable anymore. Not saying there aren't problems finding specific things. The last two times I've gone immediately at opening, the store has been fully stocked for the most part. Maskers are about 50/50.

$74 for not very much. Store brand 18 ct large white eggs, $5.52. Store brand half gallon clear ammonia, $3.79.
One pound of store brand pepper-jack cheese, sliced, is $6.83. One pound Old Neighborhood beef bologna is $5.93. Go figure on that one.

God bless P****, a petite woman in her 60's that has been working as a cashier there since a few years prior to the plandemic. She walks to and from work, and trooped through the plandemic and who knows what woke bs. Bagged my own groceries as I usually do with her, and she thanked me multiple times. Such a nice lady.

Another order that from wm.com that if its too good to be true, its isn't true. Yesterday wm.com had 1/2 gallon jars on shipping. So I grabbed two cases. The are supposed to be delivered tomorrow and they are still being processed. That's a good sign they won't make it. First they will be delayed and then they just don't show up. And they can't be replaced. I'm about to get fed up with them and I really don't need the jars, just wanted them in case.

Today at Aldi #5 of flour was $2.12 and #4 of sugar $2.26. Eggs were $2.42 which was the same on June 23 when I shopped. Everything else was also the same except for canned carrots from 58¢ to 62¢ and yogurt from 58¢ to 65¢. The shelf price on the carrots had not been changed, but as usual the clerk had everything rung up before I'd finished unloading the cart, so I didn't catch that. Dollar Tree was again out of 2% shelf stable milk but had plenty of whole milk, so I bought that instead. I don't drink milk and don't consume enough otherwise for the higher fat content to affect my health. Although prices were somewhat higher than June, I was able to find everything on my list.

On the other hand, I went to three thrift shops and had great success. A revere ware skillet for $1 (needs major scrubbing) and two pairs of slacks and a dress for $12 (all new and never washed). Next shop had buy one shirt ($4) get a second for free so I got two, both new, one for me and one for my friend who I drove to chemo today. Also 5 books for $1, 3 hardback and 2 paperback. The next thrift shop was a bust as their prices were too high for what they had.

I was on a time crunch so didn't spend any time looking around or pay attention to other shoppers. I went with lists and pretty much stuck to them. Did experience some road rage on the drive home -- stupid woman tailgated and then passed me and another car pulling out while on a yellow line.

Whole milk actually has nutrition in whereas the % milks have little to none. The low fat thing for health is wrong.

I give up.
I went to the big thrift store in a burb today. Got 4 really nice long-sleeve cottony-type blouses. Two never worn with tags still on them. Got one of those velour blankies for $7, a pretty pillow sham with brand new pillow inside - $7. And 2 kind of heavy drinking glasses - one is a Hard Rock cafe from Cleveland, and the other one is a Guinness. LOL.

And then Wegmans, man it's expensive, I dropped $130, that's a lot for me.

It will not allow me to get them, unless I want to pay in excess of 34 dollars for one package of 6, or go to the store to get them in person.

Looks like they have actually been shipped, left Memphis tonight. I think this was the first time I'd seen them listed to be shipped, but they quickly went back to pick up. $34 is way too much, its from one of those 3rd party shippers that gouge people.

Well, I AM glad that you managed to get yours, anyway.

And you say it is shipping out of the Memphis facility?

I am headed out to Hwy 72, going into Memphis in just a few hours. I will pass right by that facility on my way in. (BTW, technically, the “Memphis“ facility is actually in Olive Branch, Mississippi - on the north side of Hwy 72 about a mile from the state line).

Maybe I will see the truck that will head your way, as I pass the huge facility... Wouldn’t that be a hoot!

Here's an updated map of ALL food-related facilities that have been destroyed or closed for some reason - processing plants, warehouses, supermarkets and more - OVER 600 SO FAR THIS YEAR!!!! If this doesn't make you realize this is intentional, well...you must be as brain dead as Brandon!

When I got my first apartment in NYC back in the 70s I did my food shopping on payday. Back then I'd spend an average of $25 for enough groceries to last me for two weeks.

I haven't had to do any shopping so far this week, although I want to get a few things from Trader Joe's on Friday. (They have strawberry shortcake cookies that are to die for!) I went to CVS the other day just to deposit some money to my checking account - it's posted immediately. Although I don't do any shopping there, no matter what time or day I go to make a deposit it's always the same (mask wearing) clerk at the counter. I jokingly asked her if she lives there, and she replied that she just about does, because no one wants to work! I've never seen any other employee, although I assume there's a pharmacist in back administering death shots since they have a big sign out front.

At the post office I got into a conversation with the clerk, and she said she's noticed everyone seems to be on edge and about to snap. I don't even go out anymore apart from my weekly grocery shopping, and I just ordered a pistol for home protection!

Same here in Charleston, SC. My mom wanted to buy eggs at Costco, but they only had brown eggs and were around $10 for two dozen. So she mentioned it to me since I was going to the store and I told her I’d pick some up. I was shocked at how expensive they were! I was so shocked I didn’t recall the exact prices either. But there was nothing under $4. Even the store brand dozen. And the large flat was over $10. I looked online at Harris Teeter and they have the HT brand on sale for 2.99! I think they were cheaper at Walmart, but when I looked the other day I thought surely they’re cheaper at HT and didn’t get any.
Same pricing structure in the metro atlanta area as well

I was able to get 18 eggs at Walmart today for $3.93. Then ended up finding the 24 pk of white eggs at Costco for $4.29. Guess I’m making egg salad. :)
I really wanted to buy the broccoli cheese soup that’s in the refrigerator section at Costco, but they were out. So I bought the ingredients and will make it tonight. I’m having dental surgery tomorrow and ran around town buying soft foods. I feel like I have to go to two or three stores to find what I want for the right price. At least gas was $3.68 at Costco!

Neither here nor there.

Smith's in NE NV early afternoon today. Shelves are looking a bit thin, but I guess people are used to it. The store continues to put on clearance a lot of specialty items that I assume are less popular. Things like lavender-infused olive oil. They finally, after at least six weeks, changed the shelf price of 25-lb bags of store brand flour to match what it rings up at at the register.

BY shopping the discounted/clearance items, I figure I spend about 1/2 what other people do. The total today was $109, and the cart was nowhere near full. I think I only paid regular price for the milk (2 gallons), hot dogs (a once or twice per year thing here), and bananas (6). Oh, also cucumbers (3).

If you haven't tried it 2 hot dogs, sliced in "coins" thinly ( not too thin,) and first browned in butter, then add 4-6 scrambled eggs and cook together, is a real treat! (or 2 eggs with one hot dog) Serve with Quaker instant cheese grits...mmm. good.

My mom called that "goo-goos and eggs"!

Walmart has a limit of 2-30 packs of Chinett Platters. 5.98. Their affiliate had the 100 pack for 29 something.
I was getting the 100 pack on Amazon shipped from Sam's Club for 21.00. But now the prices are insane there. So I went ahead and ordered the 2-pack plus 2 of the 100.
They are a neccessity for me as they hold hot meals and are lighter weight than dishes.. I can no longer sit comfortably at the table so eat in front of the TV. Anyway that is a big price increase and looks like one of those phony shortages where people buy up the cheap supplies and resell them.

Growing up, my sister and I loved for Mom to fry up some hot dogs to go with our scrambled eggs and grits for breakfast! Always had hot homemade buttermilk biscuits, too.

I use plate holders for paper plates for hot foods. I get the 9" walmart brand of paper plates and it works great. Saves money.
