We buy Victor dog food from a small family owned business. The owner told me that in two weeks it will go up between $7-8 a bag. We pay around $59 for a 44 lb bag. It's good stuff, so I will continue to buy it.
What, no sporks?HOLY CRAP!! I just bought plastic utensils (spoons and forks) for the first time in about 2 months. The pack of 24 went from $1 (which it’s been for TEN YEARS) to $1.55 !!!!!! In one single jump!
Personally, I think it may be somewhere between actual shortages and intentional shortages. I'm glad I'm stocked up and try to replace when I can, what may be less and less possible. I've panicked in the past and gone crazy, but I just don't get too excited about it anymore.I have been reading how there are food shortages all over the country. My wife shops at our local Kroger every Saturday morning and there are very few things missing on their shelves. Another friend went to a VG's. in Genesee and took pictures of bare shelves. Anyone know or have a guess as to what is actually going on with these shortages? I'm just curious. We still get extra non perishable goods and store them but so far have not been worried.
That's my observation too. Sometimes they will have what you want but not the size.its just hit or miss on some items, one week, they wont have it, the next, theres a bunch.
I don't shop at that Kroger but Publix has some issues in the frozen sections this week.In my area (N. GA) Kroger and Publix always seem fully stocked, whereas WM is hit or miss.
I go with the hit or miss. Ordering via Instacart is a crapshoot. Definitely a canned cat food shortage. 1 item of something in a whole grocery store is a shortage. Also seeing delivery problems or store manager incompetence or something. Got me.
Also they tend to pay less for the product they sell, so they are lower on the supply chain.IMO, the cheaper the store the more shortages. Probably because they get hit harder by more people. I used to work at a Kroger store and their stuff was always higher than Walmart. I see shortages at Walmart and Aldi, but not at a small chain store in my town where the prices are very much more expensive. In fact the only time I darken their doors is to buy their loss leader meat sales.
it dosnt matter if its on the store shelf or not if it costs $48 or $80 for a dozen ($1) cans of sardines or $4 for a 3oz, $.35 can of potted meat or 1
$124 for 12 cans of 5oz chicken meat it might as well be not on the shelf. Prices
are going CRAZY for any kind of PROTEIN!
Check out amazon canned meat, EVEN USED TO BE CHEAP TUNA FISH!
My grocery supermarket is out of top ramen.
TIP: Hormel Potted meat, used to be $.25-.35 a 3oz can but is so salty you cant really make a sandwich with it. It is NOW $ .60-$.85 a can It is 10 grams of Protein which you HAVE TO HAVE Protein, snd if you dont have a lot of money you can MIX POTTED MEAT into spaghetti sauce or mixed with mashed potatoes or baked potatoes or beans will cancel the saltiness, in soup or mixed with rice or noodles will also kill the saltiness. Two cans for two people.
I can easily agree with the first part of your statement, but not the second. Our local walmart has everything we want or need. But yeah walmart in other places of the country, not so much.I personally think it’s regional and it also seems to be the Walmarts that have the totally bare shelves.
I've got some swanson's potted type meat in cans and its so salty. I'm gonna add some to mashed potatoes and see how that goes. Thanks for the suggestion. Last year I bought a couple of cases of potted meat for just in case. I'll try that in something else too.it dosnt matter if its on the store shelf or not if it costs $48 or $80 for a dozen ($1) cans of sardines or $4 for a 3oz, $.35 can of potted meat or 1

Kind of like the stories out of the cold war USSR? I keep an eye out for what on sale and scoop up what I can. Buy in bulk what I can preserve. Good luck to you and yours Ironskull.I have been reading how there are food shortages all over the country.
