Well, you have well exceeded a novel length, and I have enjoyed every posting. Thank you....
I seem to remember something about this starting as a story but of indeterminate length.

I think if you sit down to write w/ a story white-boarded in your head, its likely easier to adhere to the vision but, when you post as you write and get feed back like on TB2K, all bets are off.

A comment could open up a possible secondary plot line and away we go. Once that happens a couple of times, the story seems to take charge of the creative process and writes itself.

I for one am very OK with that as it looks like we'll be following this process for at least another 12 months. :)

Carry on CGG; we're all waiting for the opportunity to buy the finished product, 5-6 volumes, 7-10, it doesn't matter but a nice little boxed set or, a 2-3 volume anthology would be great.

Thanks for everything thus far.

Have a good weekend.

Yeah, that is how I write, I close my eyes and the words come out of my fingers. Speaking of which, I need to do some of that..

Right now, I have a decent whiteboard of parts 4,5,6,& 7
After four , several lines will be clear and more elements will make sense
Its not that confusing except for the multiple time lines/groups all moving toward a convergence and then going forward from there. The only thing that makes me ponder is the Valkyrie-bits but I'm waiting for the 'clarification'; as you say, we need to get there, to that part of the story, for it all to line up.

I've actually been resisting my normal inclination to highlight, right-click, search those references; my wife says I'm being uncharacteristically patient ;) ......

Well I didn't want to nag but we're all sort of hanging on .......:hmm: ;)
When you find time will do

How did the move finally go for you?

by all means, search the references, it won’t give any storyline away

The peace and calm of their reclaimed house lasted about a week for Bekka and Garen.

“So, I was thinking….” Garen started.

“Shit! Now we are in trouble!” Was Bekka’s instant reply.

“At least let me explain my idea. So, we have Angelique and Allyson needing to learn more fieldcraft, you wanting more radio training, Heidi doing more medical training, we all need to get more familiar with the upper area of the park and the spaces around Doug’s and Zeds.”

“Yeah?” Bekka’s reply was hesitant.

“We look at doing a couple weeks rotating between the three locations and patrolling the surrounding areas. We keep us all learning and teaching us how to keep working with one another.”

“Sounds like a good idea as far as efficiency goes. If we do this, we can be better situated when Jesse’s granddaughter gets here.” Was Bekka’s answer.

The next couple of weeks were hectic, to say the least. For Kara, Garen and Bekka, it was like being back on deployment, running all over a country, working with different people each week, doing different jobs each week. For Angelique, Doug, Emilia, Heidi, Jesse and Zed, it was a serious scramble to their minds.

One of the bigger surprises to most of the group was Emilia adding so much training on her plate. She called it the ‘Angelique” degree plan, only without the medical major. This shifted several of Garen’s well laid schedules firmly into the dumpster and forced him to start from scratch.

Emilia spent time with Garen and Allyson learning combat skills, Bekka for planning and communications, Zed, Doug and Angelique for survival and tracking. All of this while at the same time forcing herself into a physical exercise routine to rival her mothers.

All of the scrambling around led to some other interesting encounters and events as well.

One evening around dusk, the Hyena rolled up to Larrissa’s. Brody was quick to meet them, as had become his custom. The driver got out first to greet him. It was Tatyana. The one who kissed hm and was engraved in his mind.

He heard her talking to the other one with her, but he couldn’t hear what she said to the smaller woman.

“Remember what I told you.”

“Not a problem, it’s not a role I played often intentionally, but I can’t spoil you and Angelique’s fun.”

Allyson spoke to Brody, her Russian accent getting better with the practice with Angelique. “Good evening, Brody. Is all well with everyone?”

“Everyone is fine, thanks for asking. I see you have brought someone new with you.” Brody tried to contain his enthusiasm for their arrival and act more mature with Tatyana here. He was curious about the shorter woman with her. This one was shorter than Bekka but had a fierce bearing about her.

At Brody’s comment about the new person, Allyson figured that was her cue to introduce her “Brody, this is my sister Engel.”

At this, Engel pulled off her headwrap and goggles. She shook her blond hair free, letting it cascade across her shoulders. “I am Engel, I am pleased to meet you, Brody.” She held out her hand.

Brody barely noticed until later, he was actually taller than Engel. Right now, he was captivated with her face. Her eyes seemed to hold him transfixed as Tatyana’s did when he first met her. And her voice! Her accent was different, softer. He couldn’t place it. He was shaken from the spell by the sound of the door behind him opening. It was Ruby.

“Hi, I’m Ruby.” She turned to Brody. “Brody, why don’t you go get the eggs and milk we set aside for them?”

Brody hurried off. This gave him a moment to think what he would say to them when he came back.

Ruby turned back to their visitors. “Don’t mind him. He is just all teenage boy girl crazy! And you guys are just tormenting him something fierce!” She laughed. “By all means, keep it up! It’s good for him.”

Allyson and Heidi just chuckled a little before putting their warrior faces back on. Brody was returning.

“Here.” Brody handed Tatyana the box, who put it in one of the side baskets of the Hyena. When his hands were free, Engel stepped up to him. She had a demure gaze fixed on him. She reached out with one small strong hand and caressed his cheek.

“Tatyana, this Brody is cute. He could be good for my sister Tenshi.” She smiled at him. “Stay strong and virtuous. My Tenshi needs a Galahad, not a Mordred.” The last part of her statement was all iron and venom.

But Heidi/Engel (Dutch for Angel and one of the prominent languages in Rhodesia) said My Tenshi…..
I'm sure she's right but, I struggle enough w/ English and it's variations so, beyond ein Bier, bitte & wo ist das Badezimmer etc, etc I've never focused much on foreign language skills.

And now, when you find time, back to the story. All things considered, and particularly this day, there's no rush Amigo..... take a break, maybe spoil your Tenshi a tad; never hurts to have credits stored up :D

When Garen’s modified plan was implemented, one of the first week’s classes was tactical tracking with Zed and Doug as the instructors. They had an interesting group of students with variety of experience so, after a lot of calculations, the students were paired accordingly. They decided to pair Angelique with Emilia and Kara with Heidi. Doug and Zed figured not to put Emilia with her mother, or Angelique with Kara, they were too familiar with each other. The thought was wanting to bring age and experience together. Garen had noticed something between Heidi and Kara, a kind of nervousness he never saw in Kara before so he wanted to see how they worked together. He asked Doug to team them up.

Now the teams were decided it was up to Doug and Zed to come up with ideas to teach them new things. Doug was a wealth of knowledge on almost all things tracking. He was especially good at predicting the routes of travel across terrain for most people. This comes from all the years and studies for search and rescue. He was able to parlay this some to the skill of finding people who didn’t want to be found.

Where Doug fell short Zed was able to jump in using examples of the training he got as well as conducted while working with the anti-poaching teams in Africa. His skill with tracking seemed effortless. Zed seemed to be following a big glowing line laid out by Doug but from different angles to help the women understand. As the week went on, the evenings were filled with stories about Zed’s adventures in Africa with the elite Anti-poaching teams and the tactics they used.

During these talks, Heidi was reminded of the late-night talks with her father after she came home. War talks with him wasn’t like in the movies. It was mostly about nuts-and-bolts things; how they set up gear for fast moving patrol, what to do about water in an inhospitable land, what to do to hunt down insurgents and so on and so forth. She could hear her father’s weird accent that only showed when he was tired. Zed had some of the same tones when he was discussing certain things. Heidi knew Zed and her father would have gotten along famously.

Even the instructors learned a valuable lessons about their students during one training exercises. It is important to take into account the physicality of the trackers and or trackees. As trackers, Heidi and Kara together as a team moved so fast, they could overtake the prey before they could hide or disguise their trail. If they were the hunted, they just outpaced the pursuers through sheer distance covered. Even with Doug and Zed tracking them, Heidi and Kara could set such a brutal rate of travel and cover so much distance, they couldn’t be caught. They would have to think of something else for these two and their hippie jets.

Sounds like skills transfer and honing thereof is well under way. A few more weeks & we can merge the last few in, absent the possible late arrivals from Mountain Warfare. Helluva a core group, going forward. Hopefully there'll be more civilians to add in too,

Soon after receiving an initial route map from his granddaughter, Jesse spent time at Garen and Bekka’s. He was helping her learn the AN/PRC-77 radio as promised and helping her tweak her radio network for more sensitivity and function. He also delivered Heidi’s belt-fed trophy for Garen to decipher.

Jesse ended up spreading out the maps out and going over the plan and route with Garen and Bekka.

“Your granddaughter has plotted quite the route.” Bekka commented as they poured over the maps on the worktable. “They are working the two-lane roads hard, avoiding any major cities and most towns.” Her finger traced the line on the acetate overlay sheet.

“And look, they are avoiding major intersections and junctions here, here and here.” Garen added as he stood near Jesse looking at the route.

“Yup, swinging further over to catch a small danger crossing they can double around on to hit the next two lane. “ Bekka added.

“My concern is all this meandering around is going to add tons of time and double the distance traveled. Part of me wonders if it wouldn’t be safer to just push the pedal down and buzz up the direct route and get here without all the cloak and dagger bullshit.” Jesse was expressing his worry and frustration now.

“The best rate for fuel economy with most vehicles is around forty-five to fifty-five miles an hour. At that speed, they are easy targets on the big wide roads running the straight routes. Going faster cuts the danger but doubles the fuel consumption and attracts more attention.” Bekka tried to lessen his worries some.

Garen picked up when Bekka paused. “I don’t know what they are driving, what they are carrying with them for fuel and supplies and so forth, but if they are doing this much planning, I’m sure they are working all the angles. Besides, it isn’t yet time to weld plates and spikes on all the trucks, break out the assless chaps and go all ‘Mad Max’ yet. Low key and mellow would probably be better than bulling their way through.”

“You do realize all chaps are assless, otherwise they would be ‘pants’.” Bekka quipped back at Garen.

“Either way, I’ll start fishing around for any potential help or safe havens along their route. I know quite a few ‘Hams’ and a few older friends who I might be able to hook them up with for a hidey-hole for a night or two if need be.” Jesse was digging out pad and pencil now and started jotting notes.

Jesse stayed several days. When he and Bekka weren’t working radios, the three of them were working with elements of Jesse’s granddaughter’s plan. One of the potential factors Bekka started working was a reverse route in case the group needed help. She didn’t bring this up to Jesse while she was doing it, but it occupied many conversations with Garen.

“Shit Bekka, what could we really do from here if they ran into problems.” Garen asked for the twentieth time.

“It all depends on what their issue is; mechanical, medical, logistical, Indian attack, alien invasion? I don’t know! What I do know is we would try and if we are going to try, we need options and contingencies thought through somewhat so we aren’t starting from scratch if trouble arrives.” Bekka was sounding almost as frustrated as she felt.

Garen understood Bekka was frustrated, but this point counterpoint method was one of the ways they planned the best. “Well I guess the first question after what is the problem would be how far away. If it’s just a medical emergency, we could do on or two of us on the adventure bikes. They have the range, speed and stealth, comparatively, to get a long way quickly to intervene. You and me on ours, or me and Kara or you and Kara. If it’s more serious medically, probably you and your Subaru and me or Kara or Allyson.”

“Not Angelique?” Bekka was curious and wanted to know his thinking.

“Not solo for a long range medical rescue. Not yet, when we have better options. If it’s combat trauma, then, yes she would be an option, but if it’s a different type of medical emergency? Not yet.” Garen knew Angelique would do great at burned, broken or bleeding, but if it was some other sort of medical problem, her library in her head was still a bit thin.

Bekka saw Garen was still thinking on his answer some and hadn’t finished his explanation yet. Soon he continued.

“OK, Bekka, here’s my thought on Angelique. If we are looking at possible retrieve and or assist, we just have to look at who Angelique is paired with depending on the mission. If it’s a medical mission, she would pair well with me, Allyson or Kara. If it’s a resupply or fix or something, she would be good for medical support with any of us.”

“What about people from the other group. We shouldn’t have to shoulder the full responsibility I think.” Bekka reminded Garen.

“True. Thinking on the others, if it came to a mission like we are thinking, I would want either you or Jesse back here to massage the radios. Heidi would be good as long as we stick a medic with her. She would do fine for initial and intermediate care but we are a long way from calling her a medic. Doug would be good with someone as a medic as well. Emilia is too green for a two person team yet. Zed, well, he would be great depending on the mission. He would be good if we are trying to fix something to recover. Jesse says he is a mechanical genius at times. “

“I guess the big questions would be range and mission, all other aspects would be driven from there. If Jesse had safe havens for them to get to, then it would be most likely medical cause for a speed run. Anything else could be stealthier.” Bekka said, some of the frustration gone now. She knew Garen would roll play a hundred scenarios in his head, looking for the pairings and the platforms they would use. So would she.

Plan, Learn, Prepare. Their military careers taught them this again and again, over and over.

So many people 'out there' think stuff just happens and it's 'bad luck' if you don't make your goal. I guess they're mostly sheeple because most aren't prepared to attack any project with the kind of intensity related here.

Griz think "civilians". Especially in rural areas we may know which end of the gun a bullet comes out of but no way, no how have this level of physical fitness, training or resources (Thank you President Obama and some Democrat politicians). Ever try funding a new Fire Truck with bingo and bake sales?

If emergencies are trained for they are usually local and predictable in nature; natural disasters (floods, blizzards, hurricanes, quakes etc.), recurring accidents, fires, industrial and farm related accidents, chemical spills, downed lines etc. This is unless there is a Federal mandate.

Some rural volunteer emergency responders do have military background but are long in the tooth and are aging out. The Feds now demand a commitment of training time for "volunteers" that in IMHO is asinine to the point of endangering the public. Many younger physically fit individuals who want to can't make the time commitment due to other responsibilities or in case of the Amish lack easy access to in home modern communication technology.

Apologies for the rant Griz but you hit a nerve.

Yes, that and more. It's how I got into the Ambulance business.

You go ahead and rant as you see fit; I'm sure you've earned the right. I know I did :)

Probably do it all again too, because it needed to be done. I think most of us would.
